  1. Its smoking because oil is dripping on the exhaust which stays hot after the engine is off, so yeah, the smoke may continue for a bit.
  2. I use the same method. I've got car parts, tires, a rim, sheet metal, a few tools, etc. but a few weeks ago some ********************* was able to find my tire pressure gauge, OBDII diagnostic tool, some tools, and my jumper cables.
  3. Check out the Yokohama Avid TRZ tires. I've had them on my Outback for about 12,000 miles and they are great. Good luck.
  4. Use that in your negotiating. You might be able to knock off a $1000 to cover possible head gasket replacement.
  5. I figured there wasn't an easy way. The engine in my Outback is fine.. the body is awful. I really don't like this emissions crap.. And the CEL would bother me, too.
  6. Is there any way to use a EJ22 without the EGR (1996, manual transmission) in a swap and not get a CEL? (sorry to thread hijack)
  7. I'm not sure if the OEM are the same as the Felpro, but I've had great luck with Felpro gaskets in several cars and motorcycles.
  8. I used a split boot on my Outback about 7 years ago. It lasted a few years until I got it replaced when the clutch was replaced. I got it at Advance Auto Parts.
  9. I don't mean to hijack this thread, but is there a tutorial on the USRM on rebuilding alternators? I've got a failing one sitting in the hatch of my wagon. I don't want to be a hoarder of broken car parts, but I feel I could possibly fix it...
  10. What brand of plugs and wires did you get? The cheap NGK plugs are best. I've had good luck wIth cheap wires from AutoZone. I've got about 80,000 miles on my current wires. Some people will tell you to get OEM wires. It won't blow up. What issues are you having?
  11. Sounds like a nice car. I too have a Hyundai. Its a 2005 Accent. We've had it since new. Its slow, uncomfortable, and way to small. But it gets 35 MPG and has been reliable. At 100k miles I'm starting to have some issues (rusty hole in oil pan and leaking master cylinder.) Congrats on the new Subaru!
  12. I'd read it. I have been thinking about getting an Outback that needed head gaskets and either replacing them or dropping my EJ22 in, so I've been reading everything on head gaskets that I can find. If you do a tutorial, include pictures!
  13. That is the saddest parade I've ever heard of.
  14. Just wave at people and toss candy out the window when you drive. Who's to say you are not in a parade?
  15. Good point. I replace my plugs every time I rotate my tires, or every other oil change. I've never done plugs on a EJ25.
  16. The canister on my 96 Outback is tucked up in the rear driver side bumper. Real easy replacement. They rust out. Mine its a mess.
  17. I know the headlights off a 95,Legacy L are the same as on a 96 Legacy Outback. So the lights off a 95 would work, too.
  18. As was already said, NGK plugs come pre-gapped (and are the best!) At least they have been every time I've done the plugs in my Subaru, Hyundai, and Suzuki motorcycle. And I LOL'd at the .44". :-P
  19. I've been looking into replacing the struts on a 96 Outback, and from my research I've found a lot of people like the KYB GR2 struts. Rockauto has then for $65. I doubt they are much more for your Forester. I called around for prices (parts, labor) for rear struts, and it ranged from $500 to $750. I'll be doing it myself if I end up fixing them. Good luck.
  20. I rememeber when I hit 200,000 in my moms Legacy. I pulled over and took a picture with my phone. She has just under 300,000 now. Still driving it like 100 miles daily.
  21. I've rented cars before. I know what i've done in them. I probably wouldn't buy one. I had a AWD Ford Edge once. That thing moved real nice for a wagon. :-D
