  1. in 1996 Liberty here, the ECM is under the floor mat on passengers side floor near firewall. Cheers AP
  2. you can use DOHC 2.0 litre NA on EJ22, they have better inlet and outlet air flow. Cheers AP
  3. Give it a good clean - use carby cleaner and squirt it out, spart some WD40 on it then put back together Cheers AP
  4. wow.... that is longest ever heard for EJ22.. Keep it up! What was the secret? Cheers AP
  5. 150,000 miles now, still original clutch previous owner said, but had throw out bearing replaced about 10,000miles ago - He didnt remove the clutch as he didnt want to upset the alignment - suspect have a little bit left. Cheers AP
  6. Haha! well... yeah we do drive in right side of the road lol I picked up straight away, oil filler up is wrong side! Cheers AP
  7. Engine out - LOT easier and does the job properly, if you want to get sore back you can do it while engine is in. If you dont have time or effort to do it while engine is in, then thats the option, but I have the access to take the engine out so i would. Cheers AP
  8. Are the BG5 (1996) rear struts are both same on Sedans and Wagons? Or if I have Sedan struts on wagon will lower it or raise it? Will I come into any problems abt using sedan struts on wagon? I am planning to use my near new struts that was suited for sedan after I wrote mine off and use them in my wagon. Can it be possible? Thanks AP EDIT: I will be using wagon springs(coils) & hats/tops on sedan struts
  9. Righto - Again now I am hearing different stories about flywheel being resurfaced - Subaru said get a new one as if you resurface it you'll muck it up - I didnt want to ask for the price because I am scared! Reason why - last time I replaced the clutch on my previous subaru, i had a small shudder at specific rpm (i forget what RPM) and clutch place asked me if i have new or machined fly wheel - i said no - they said that is the problem. I dont want that to happen again on my newish subaru. Thanks AP
  10. hey guys, Since my liberty wagon needs new throw out bearing, I've decided to replace the clutch & throw out bearing at the same time over christmas, but I want to machine the fly wheel, but over christmas - near year period there is no chance that there would be a place open to do that, so I am looking for a 2nd hand fly wheel to machine now ready to go in while I do the clutch. Is EJ22 AWD & FWD fly wheels both the same? Are there any better fly wheels that would be recommeneded in EJ22? (ie. if EJ20 flywheel better than EJ22?) Thanks Cheers AP
  11. Can you pass me a link for Subaru Forrester forum if there is one, only one I could find was - Subaru Forrester Owners Forum - http://www.subaruforester.org/vbulletin/forums/ Is that the one? Thanks guys AP
  12. Fair enough, I might go over to forrester forums and see what they say. I was planning to take out the 0.780 5th gear from RS Legacy or 0.738 from late 1990s WRX models. But from what I have been thinking and researching about the 0.738 is a bit too low for EJ22. I think 0.780 would be perfect. Thanks guys for your answers. Do you know anyone might have done this kind of thing apart from forrester guys? Cheers AP
  13. G'day fellas, I'm hoping you could correct/discuss with me with this as no one really wants to talk to me about this and its driving me crazy!... The question I have been asking is - CAN I install 0.738 or 0.780 5th gear ratio in 5MT Dual Range box replacing 0.871. Why? Because the revs is 3050rpm at 100kmh (62.13mph) and its 3400rpm at 110kmh (68.35mph) and I drive for a hour in 110kmh while revving at 3400 rpm.. Currently the 5th Gear is 0.871 in my Liberty (legacy) has 3.9 final drive ratio in front and rear diffs. Its EJ22 engine. I am hoping to drop revs for highway use, if I used 3.9 diff with 0.738 5th gear at 100kmh the revs would be approx 2250rpm or.... if i used 0.780 5th gear, i would be looking around 2450 rpm at 100kmh. The reason I want to do that is to drop revs and save fuel on flat highways, if the engine is complaining ie. uphills, i'll select the dual range in 5th to increase approx 500rpm. Can it be done, to take the gear out from other gearbox and put it in mine? Thanks AP
  14. Ive seen 3.7, 3.9, 4.11 in L series 4WDs Cheers AP
  15. Out of interest, is it possible for me to pull out/take off an transfer case from Legacy 4WD gearbox that has Lo Range (Hi/Fulltime 4WD) on it from a buggered (blown teeths in G/B 3rd gear?) dual range gearbox and fit it on end of Single Range AWD gearbox transmission that is on my 1995 Liberty? Cheers AP
  16. Oh by the way, How long an standard clutch should last - for 85% highway daily driver - doesn't push car hard - did go off road a few times. Cheers AP
  17. Did that - started off in 3rd quickly, it just slips, revs jumps not speedo - i was wrong - Its simple that the clutch is gone. No reciepts from previous seller because he got the deal thru a mechanic, I dont think he even asked for them - I don't know and I no longer can get in touch with him has he left Australia back to Italy. So simple, I have to accept that. Yep its 5MT - Clutch possible gone? CHeers and thanks guys, gearbox is dropping down on Saturday. AP
  18. I discovered this slipping thing last Saturday after staying overnight at the mountain, and was driving slightly uphill all the sudden it slips, the revs & speed jumps just feels like you're riding on the clutch, pulled over checked out couldn't smell anything... I thought oh yeah water on the clutch, got back in car, drove off - felt like normal no more slipping at all. Tonight coming home from Ballarat, cruising on western hwy at around 115-120 kmh - no worries, pulled over in Caroline Springs to get some fuel, drove off no worries, I was speeding doing 100 in 80zone, I had this shudder feeling. (possible because I have worn shockers in rear, but why didn't do it on western hwy from ballarat!?).. then approached the lights, drove off.. whoa.. its slipping again!! revs are up there, if you reach 4000rpm approx it kicks in then you're able to catch up to speed..... when I steer around the corner, I could feel some sort of rough vibration feels like no power steering fluid (in my experience) it felt rough/grinding... arrived home, opened up the bonnet, I *could not* smell clutch burning smell.. I remember the last person who sold me the liberty replaced the clutch 1000 kms before I bought it, that was 55,000kms ago till today's date, so I don't think its slipping clutch.. It is obviously gearbox problem......... I am really stunned what has gone wrong... AWD system is complicated to me... Something is slipping.. sussed that its the gearbox? Its off from EJ22 AWD Liberty single range gearbox. what is your input? Cheers AP
  19. get one from wrecker. No point buying new one. and make sure you make a mud pan under the sump to protect it! Cheers AP
  20. Seen a couple of them in Australia, easy way is to use Outback structs on these models. Cheers AP
  21. I've been trying to locate an manual that only shows the rear LSD diff (Clutch Pack) as I want to see what it has in it. if someone has scanned images that would be greatly appreicated! my email address is tmreilsi@tpg.com.au if you want to email me - unlimited size. Thanks AP
  22. yes get the wheel balanced - that is the first thing i would do! um.... have you been off road recently? sometimes it has mud in the rim and causes shaking.. Cheers AP
  23. wouldn't be the MAF sensor on mine? Recently on my Liberty EJ22 whenever I am on cruise control on the highway on flat terrian sometimes I can feel a small repeat shudder feels like missfire but the sparkies (well gapped) & leads are brand new (and fully serviced - new filters, oil and air etc), I recently changed back to the old ones and its still doing the same thing? My thought was the coil at fault? But if it was the coil - it'll fail straight away wouldn't it? No ECM codes has been displayed yet. EDIT - Oh... it shows code 24 which shows air control valve? Cheers AP
  24. Don't ever ever reuse timing belts..... A lot of people have done this including me and guess what happened? 5000kms later the belt broke!! anyway for what its worth, you're doing head gaskets, you might as well replace water pump, new HG, timing belt new seals etc.. for what its worth because it might be fine for next 100,000 kms as you never know! For my 2c worth! Cheers AP
  25. I wouldn't follow 3rd party books that aren't made by Subaru! trust me mate. Anyway no you don't... Oil pan stays there - all you need is to remove timing belt cover, and so on... if you're doing water pump job, its a good idea to change the timing belt at the same time doing water pump - that way you know its same age. Timing belt is required doing anyway, if you changed the pump and the timing needs replacing down the track - you're wasting your time so best to change it over at the same time. Cheers AP
