  1. The compression looks really good. Mine is around 165-170PSI average but I need to re-test it again. Mmm I would flash the cooling system out and put in anti freeze in and drive the car and see if it does or doesn't over heat? Is there any signs of chocolate colour under the oil filler cup? (its a sign of water in oil) or funny colour in oil (you'll need to drain the oil) which shows water in oil? If neither above then your head gasket is fine, but if you had cooling problem, i would go and check the radiator's core to see if its blocked or not - that is next thing i would see to trouble shoot cooling problems. Also how old is the thermosdat? Cheers AP
  2. Agreed! Even if you're doing timing belt swap - its good idea to remove it as well for two reasons - to prevent damage it (happened once long time ago) and give you more room! Cheers AP
  3. I have two LSD diffs here, the first one - Part Number - Stumped on the LSD casing inside the diff shows - C4D6 which should be Clutch Pack LSD. - Story is - I bought it off from a mate which told me it was from RX Leone. - Pictures shown below - Another LSD Diff - also stumped inside as well shows - C3D4 which is suppose to be Viscous LSD? Story is - When I bought this LSD cheaply from a wrecker which I was told it was from RS Liberty (1991 RS Liberty/same as RS Legacy Turbo) but he wasn't sure himself because it has been sitting on the shelf for long time - it has S39.11 stumped on the crown. - Pictures shown below - Now the question is - HOW do I know if its either Clutch or Viscous LSD? Because while I had the covers off on both Diffs the inside both looks the same/identical except the part numbers that is stumped on. Or I have to open it up right inside to find out? Both LSDs did have stickers on the cover plate but they're missing.
  4. Another thing from what i noticed abt EJ22s are that they're tougher than EJ20 & EJ25. EJ25 has crankshaft problems. EJ22 is known to reach just before 500,000 kms. EJ22 has low rate of wear on pistons. If i wanted to convert from EA81/EA82 to EJ series, I'll choose EJ22 engine. Cheers AP
  5. You'll need to do wet compression test before confirmation... Another question - does it burn oil? or blow large amount of smoke at cold startup? Cheers AP
  6. Doesn't sound too good!!! Nah the E10's bolt head got broken up so the only way I had to cut it thru with a saw that is why it looked like that it has been hot - replaced with another one I had. Cheers AP
  7. Righto, The axle stubs - for the LSD Diff did it look like the top axel stub top one in the pic below or bottom one? (I'm aware that the bottom stub doesn't have a C Clip, its from 86 Subaru with a bolt) Or it had both short stubs in both sides on VLSD (similar to bottom stub in the pic)? (That top stub is from Clutch Pack LSD)
  8. Dirtiest jobs I've done with cars..... Removing fully covered in oil gearbox (non Subaru) It was urgent job that needed to be done to replace the clutch on roadside. Removing an blown engine (again covered in oil - couldn't drive it or get it cleaned before starting the job - wasn't worth the effort to clean it if I am gonna throw the engine away. Removing Rear Diff (subaru) at the junk yard, was covered in smelly diff oil. Replacing the CV boot - greasy & messy - again number one hate! Ah um.... otherwise my Liberty's engine is clean and it stays that way otherwise i dont get greasy hands heh! Smellist jobs... number one is the rear diff oil!!! it stinks and makes me feel so sick. Cheers AP
  9. Since you have VLSD now, What kind of stubs axels did it have/ Did it either have E10 bolt or stubs with a ring on it that pops out or male CV joints that mates with the diff? Just curious Cheers AP
  10. I always thought that the clutch throw out bearing would make the noise when you enage the clutch but not during while you're driving? It doesn't make any noise when you push the clutch pedel in/and while the gear is not in use & clutch is released doesn't make any noise at all (just rolling at 100kmh ie. downhill). Cheers AP
  11. Checkout your local yards, I bought mine (Legacy GT ones - Projecter ones) for AU$70 (USD$50) Just matter of time and you'll source good ones. Cheers AP
  12. (I know my Legacy is still at the panel beaters - will get it back end of 2 wks time or mid 3 wks time) Lately errr happened 5000 kms ago, when I am driving 40kmh plus upto 100/110kmh) I have some sort of noise sounds like worn wheel bearing, when I push the clutch in (while driving at 100kmh/revs drops to 900rpm) the noise stops (just sound like (road noise) when I bought my Legacy 10 months ago) which works out either gearbox/diff/rear diff or engine crankshaft bearing is on its way out?¿?.. but if i put the car in gear while driving it does make that kind of noises. Its hard for me to diagnose the noise as I am hearing impaired and no one around me is mechanically minded - only way is to take it to mechanic's but requires booking and I don't have the time for that. Oh yeah its now 210700kms, 5MT AWD EJ22. PLus I've changed the gearbox & rear diff oils - doesn't change. What could it be? Cheers AP
  13. What gear ratio do you have at the front diff and rear diff? Cheers AP
  14. The reason i liked subarus are - Easy access Its AWD, no worries on wet gravel roads, very handy on the farm if its wet, I aren't scard abt gettin bogged, even when my mates were with me said that I *will* get bogged, never did - thanks to LSD diff! Cheap to maintain, don't need to put works on it. I use it for everyday, roughly 700 kms a week of travels (434miles) per week. Have no problems with it. just very comfy ride etc Cheers AP
  15. Use automobile specific brand - yes degreaser, and you can use it in specific oily areas and don't/not recommended to do that everyttime and use high pressure cleaning system. I did that with my Liberty when I bought it for the first time and works as a treat, never did it again bec it mucked up the spark plugs and i swore never do it again! Cheers AP
  16. heheh I know.. *gets red faced*........ its true.. must have for Subaru! Subaru does have feelings and I don't wanna upset em! Cheers AP
  17. Oh yeah, check - http://www.subaruforester.com/ They'll help you mate. Cheers AP
  18. Ive seen them on current model forresters maybe around late 2004/2005 models? I Could be wrong but I can remember seeing them on them. Cheers AP
  19. Sorry another Question - drive shafts subject! Since get Diff is out of the car and I haven't seen the car myself which is another reason I am asking questions about it.... Do you know if they do take normal "Male to Male" shafts same as early to 1995 Legacy? or I require adaptor shafts? Thanks guys AP
  20. Or if you have the key code and get a new master key from Subaru then go to Locksmith and get a cut out with the key code, I did that with mine. (I remember on that day, I didn't want to have a "normal key cut like everyone has" and I wanted a key with Subaru on it and came into big arguement with her because I made her come with me for whole morning getting a "key cut" as he took out the passenger's door lock so that he could work out the key code as I didn't have one nor Subaru wouldn't give me the information because my Subaru got "lost" in the system as they couldn't look it up but at the end of the day, I was happy to have master key with "Subaru" on it! its a must have for Subaru! Cheers AP
  21. I've never ever seen an 3 Door Subaru like that one above in Australia, it would be nice thing to have hey? Looks good project for you, what are your plans for it? Cheers AP
  22. Righto... I have an Clutch Pack LSD here waiting/ready to go in my car until I recently came up an VLSD from RS Liberty and made me think which should I go for - Clutch or Viscous LSD? Reaso I want it is for better handling in wet, mud, gravel roads plus towing off muddy areas/very wet grass. Does anyone have better picture of VLSD so that I can be 100% sure its VLSD or Clutch Pack LSD? Thankyou guys. AP
  23. I Know I am not American or Canadian but I am from Australia myself, I own 1995 Subaru Liberty GX (You guys called it Legacy) which looks like Legacy GT with EJ22 engine. Anyway the reason I bought my Subaru Liberty was that I grew up with Subaru's with EA71, EA81, EA82 models then I got my own EJ22 Liberty this year age of 26, I waited until I was after 25 due insurance reasons. Why I wanted Subaru Liberty? Because there are a few reasons which is - Its cheap, affordable, tough, reasonable amount of power, its an everyday car, its a car that has 4WD/AWD that you can drive in the city whereabouts large 4WD is banned in the city. It has AWD drive train for extra safety & grip on the road and my girlfriend's family live on a farm and I go there a lot, they don't have 4WD at all and I am the one giving them a hand during wet season as using AWD with rear diff. Makes life so much easier and secure that you won't get bogged. If I was given large amount of money, I would buy latest Subaru... If I had a choice of an company car, I'll choose Subaru...... If I had an option on one of these cars.. I'll choose Subaru.. not looking back to other car brands.. I'm sticking with Subaru! What I would like to see in the future? Diesel based Subaru, Hybrid Subaru, Dual Range in all models, Traction control, DCCD transmission, trip computer to show fuel usage & distance. Cheers AP
