*new bumpers and more!* pics of trip to ocean shores
Stereos don't really cut it here in the O/R forum as far as "MODS" go. Show us the mods that will make your car a better wheeler out in the woods. 18 pics of stereo equipment, alarm system and your radar detector are almost enough to move this thread to OT. Don't sweat Rob. He's one of the nicest guys you'll ever meet. Google Gulliver's Travels and Glum. Then you'll know what Rob's like. Want my advice about a winch for your Subie? Get a couple of 8k come-a-longs from Harbor Freight. Keep them behind the seat, they'll get you out of whatever you can get yourself into. Trust me, I know.

Biggest tires with no lift?
I sure wish I had you guys to ask when I bought my first set of mudders and put them under my not lifted car. . . This is the most asked question. There may not be pics in the FAQ, but there are 100 threads about it.

SUBARU Wheeler
It would be hard to make an older off roader with only Subaru parts. For starters, they only came with 13 inch wheels. You get away from "subaru only" as soon as you put those Pug wheels on. You would have to swap in 5 lug stuff from a newer one to be able to put bigger tires on. Subaru doesn't make a lift, so a lift is out too. We went over all this with the Australians a few years ago when they refused to recognize Ken's brat after we added a transfer case and solid rear axle. A "bitsa" they called it. Who cares what people think Scott. You know and I know that there are straght up limitations when off road in Subaru that can only be over come by more bigger mods. Those mods just happen to include parts from other vehicles. If it has a Subaru body and is powered by a Subaru motor. . . That's all you need.

5 lug swap difficulty?
Thanks a lot for the pics and info. I'd really like to put some little bit lighter wheels on the coupe. I have some tires in mind too. I'd have to sell the Superlites to help pay for the swap though. . .

5 lug swap difficulty?
Thinking about doing it to my coupe. I want to go AWD and EJ, but don't want to try to make axles. What's involved? Thanks.

Seatac airport is Seattle's airport. I'm 13 minutes away. . . I could probably put you and another up for a day or two. Extra car. . ? Maybe. It would be good to have the impreza along as a chase vehicle for the coupe. I usually get my buddy to drive one of my other vehicles, you could ride along if that happens. Or drive it if not. I know there's a couple of us Seattle area guys who have more than one car going to the show. For that extra cost, you could rent a vehicle and drive from Seattle. . . It's a really beautiful drive over the pass and thru foresty mountains.- WCCS 12 Site and Location are Set
I'll bring the coupe. It'll be sporting new paint by then I hope.- RC Offroad
That's a different thread, but I have several helicopters.- RC Offroad

With the new tires. Lower suspension links are here, just need to figure out how to make the shopck mounts adapt.- Wheel recommendations
Usually, but don't think there's too much there on 16s or 15s for 5X100. To answer the OP. A set of Forester wheels or Outback wheels should work.- compiling offroad Book, info needed SJR
What a cool idea. Featured car owners get a discount on the book?- RC Offroad
It flexes full on 90 degrees. I found rccrawler.com where there's lots and lots of cool info on ways to make it better. Here's the collection of crawlers.- RC Offroad
Subaru or not, what do you have? I just sold off my canopy (that I barely use) and bought this: Cheapest fun ever! First thing first, I had to lose the body that comes with it. Had an old one laying around. . .- I guess i am back
Yeah, what he asked? Hello too.- Angles of Approach
Give it a try, report back.- 98 OBS Junkyard Fix (Heavy on the pics)
Check the lateral links on the side in the rear that still looks goofy. They may be bent.- What do you do to keep your shop clean?
I implimented a rule about 10 years ago. If I haven't used it in 6 months, it gets sold, given away or thrown away. Barely anything makes it around that rule. If I'm storing something for someone, I pester them from time to time once they have a place to put their stuff. A place for everything, and everything in its place. Put stuff back when I'm done using it. No clutter, garbage goes in the can, not on the floor. Therefore, I always have a very organized garage.- Gears
- Red Sedan Build , solid rear axle
I like that.- BG on 31s....
Thanks for the pics. That's a baddass car!- snorkel for my Ea81?
If you've still got that big old blue thing that screws to the top of the carb, you can just tie a red rag over the end of it. That will act as a snorkel once. If you get it wet, just rotate it. Really, it's all you need.- snorkel for my Ea81?
A snorkel for an e81 is kinda useless. The disty will be under water long before the air intake.- Buy and build?
350 for a running brat ain't bad. Rust can hurt you in a couple of ways. Obviously for structural integrity, but also for the difficulty of getting bolts to come out and then the new ones to go back in. One brat I lifted was really difficult, I had to use a long pipe at the end of a breaker bar to get all of the bolts out of the car. Just about killed me doing it. The most diffiicult part of the lift is the strut tower blocks and getting them right. (What he said about the FAQ ^^) The steering extension is pretty simple, cut, sleeve to length, reweld. The new longer bolts can be hard to source though. Again and again I hear that it's cheaper to build your own, but no one factors in that time is money. Some of us don't have the time. If you do have the time, it really isn't all that complicated for someone with halfass metal shop knowledge to buld their own. Good luck with it, pics when you score it and start on it please. - WCCS 12 Site and Location are Set
