  1. the 80-82 trannies have a lower first and secong gear. somewhere there is a chart floating around, try a search for gear ratio or transfer case
  2. skip, i am talking about moving it around the driveway. i think its a fun and clever trick, i will be using the coil circuit on my TRASHWAGON to power the ej 22 ecu, and all that trash. i will be using the legacy's relays where necessary
  3. i notice the victor series gaskets from napa use graphite faced intake gaskets and exhaust gaskets, and a metal egr gasket, wheras the felpro use paper faced gaskets and a paper egr gasket it looks that napa is the better quality, on the back each gasket is listed as "made in japan" and it wil have enought gaskets to do a whole head gasket job, including cam covers and grommets, and enough gaskets o rebuild an mpfi manifold. the napa set comes with enough gaskets for ANY ea82 pick up the oil pump seal, and turbo flange gaskets separately
  4. yes, this is what i ended up doing. at first i tried to trace it all, but now i have sections, nthe pinout, and the ecu all trimmed up. i am going to tap power from the ign circuit from the wagon, from the + coil to kick it all on, isong legacy relays i will wire one fan to the existing electric fan, and the other to the legacy ecu the fuel pump will be mounted under-hood, and it will have go to the ecu and its original relay
  5. now ihave the harness out, and all cut up. i thopught i was in over my head, until LEGACY777 from the new gen forum gave me some helpful links to the pinout charts and fsm scans tonite i will fix my 4th xt wheel, and take tha car down off the jack stands, and wheel it out in the warmer half of the bulding for some wirin' !
  6. it is doable with the right combination of STOCK parts, and a little knowledge about the parts and the cars they came from
  7. i believe the oil pan gaskets match the same between the 2, but the oil pickup is different. but who says you can trim the baffles to fit?
  8. yes, they are, the intake, exhaust ports are the same, and it bolts onto the motor the same compression differences will be in the pistons, not the heads go with it
  9. before you go, please read this: if you wanted so badly to turbo a NA ea81 block, find some ea81 turbo heads and an intake(but ultra-rare) newer mpfi can be adapted(very similar in design, but injectors are in the head(ea81) the ea82 turbo cross pipe and turbo will bolt on a more cost effective planis to go with an ea82 turbo motor, complete with wiring and ecu. it will bolt to the trans with no mod, and fits nicely between the framerail. the only clearance issue will be around the master cylinder, just simply remove the distributor when you install the motor, them put the dist in. but in ea81, you will have to trim away, or "scallop" the front crossmember, to clear the turbo crosspipe. that, or find yourself an ea81 turbo crossmember as far as trannies go, use the rear diff that goes to the tranny, non turbo 5spd, dual range has a 3.9 gear turbo full time, 5spds, and dual range has a 3.7 gear. lsd comes in 3.7 gears. the only exception is the xt6 which had them as an option(standard in 89) and legacy turbos but if you use a 3.9 trans, a 3.9 ring gear and pinion will swap into an lsd to convert it non turbo trannies have 23 splines(turbo 4wd autos too) but turbo 5spds and full time autos have 25 splines. all ea81 cars have 23 splines. but there is a way around that, you can use ea82 lower control arm, strut, knuckle, and its bigger brakes with minor fabrication. that will allow you to use turbo ea82 axles with turbo trannies, or even xt6 axles and 5lug hubs to read more on the suspension, search "rguyver" and trashwagon5" i myself have put an ea82 (carbbed), a 5spd dual range, and ea82 front suspension and rear trailing arms, disc brakes, in my 83 ea81 wagon. all the general mods here on the board, but all of them in the same vehicle pics of my setup http://www.warpthree.com/milesfox/trashwagon5/trashwagon5001.html
  10. sell it to someone who sees tha car as a slolid ride, and wouldnt mind fixing it. i myself would buy a car in such shape, because i can fix it with little more than my own time invested. anyone proficient in subarus would probably consider a buy, if the price is good(solid body and clean interior). maybe the buyer would have another motor to just throw in, as was the case with my car, i bought it with the motor in the trunk!
  11. thanx vety much! i thought i was over my head for a moment.
  12. Does anyone have or can link me to a schematic for the ecu, or what color wire goes to what. i am swapping the 2.2 into an 87 wagon, and a pinout would help lots!
  13. 1st and reverse are gionna be your biggest clearance issues. dont be afraid to take out the jigsaw. much easier than cutting out and swapping the whole tunnel. just run thru the gears, and watch to see where the shifter hits, and trim away enbough to get it into gear, maybe take a few tries so you dont cut too much the first time
  14. see if the PCV hoses themselves are clogged up, if so, replavce with 5/8 hose. as this happened to the sedan, it puked till we changed a hose, left the same pcv valve in
  15. HOME MEADE I SAID!....dont let them tell you no different... unless you wnat to pay for something you could have done yourself for way cheaper...
  16. run the coil straight off the battery (b+ to +coil) to get it running, if the coil doesn not get power. but i tell you to do this for the sake of moving the car if you have to, till you fix the real problem by connecting it this way, the whole car should power up ads if the key was in the run position, its possible to start the car from under the hood withthe doors locked and the key in the ign!!! dont let skip tell you your car will burn to the ground
  17. tonight i messed around under the hood, since now ther is a motor there. o connected the clutch cable. the 4wd vac lines are connected, but the wiring has a different plug. i need to swap the wiring from the other trannyv yet, now that i see,. the tranny ground wire is connected i will need longer hose for the heater hose i will need a linger throttle cable, the hashed turbo cable is too short, i will try the legacy cable. if that dont work, than an spfi or carb cable will do i tried to mount the legacy radiator, but its too tall. but the xt6 radiator fits, once i change out the bottom rail for the alignment nipples. i started to pull the harness from the legacy. uinder the hood i have the headlight front harness pulled to the relay box. i also have the dashboard out, for easy access
  18. i may consider narrowing the xt piece, or making my own, because i dont trust the way my existing mounts line up(i cant get ine bolt in, 3/8" adapter offset) but i can live with that till i get it running. but if i do that, it would be much stronger, and if i dio so, i will use also the regular mounts to drill thru the front xt crossmember i dont have a ptch bar with this setup, and the trans i have is missing one. Tom still has the mount, so i will use the xt dogbone on the trans for a pitch bar, when i can get the bracket from tom
  19. corky, i tried to mount my 5spd crossmember from the xt6 into my wagon. the front half lined up, but the rear half was too wide. i would have liked to use this, if i could either narrow the rear half, adapt the stock piece, or make a custom piece. i noticed the tranny mounts themselves are farther back than normal, would those be in the same location as the ej tranny? but the holes were there for the ea82 normal mounts, it would have been cool to drill holes to mount them to the front half of the xt6 crossmember. but i ended up using the crossmember and mounts from my previous tranny anyway, enlighten us to how you mounted the ej trans in the ULTIMATE RX
  20. the cracks between tha valves are normal, even if the extend down to the VALVE GUIDES an crack in the exhaust port is what to look out for, that would explain coolant in the exhaust, but no loss of compression, or coolant in the oil if you take the head off, look for signs of "steam claening" as that is whewre water could be getting into the cylinders(from the radiator pressure) the gasket should want to stick to either the head or the block if its good, but pull away from both if its bad (as you pull the head)
  21. i got an ej22 in my 87 wagon. just got it in, not running yet you will either have to find or make a custom adapter plate to fit the ea82 tranny, since there are no aftermarkwet ones that i can think of if your car is turbo with a 5spd or full time auto 25 spline axles, then you can swap an ej series motor WITH TRANS, you may have to make a custom mount, but i THINK that xt6 mounts MAY fit an ej tranny to the ea body. look into that one
  22. you can disconnect the tie rods without poppuing the outer end. break loose the big nut right before the end. then turn the WHOLE INNER ROD, there will be a flat spot to grab onto with a wrench. with the outer ends off, pull back the boot for the inner end, and there will be a staket washer, just bend the tabs down, and unscrew them so when you put it back together, your alignment at the outer end will remain
  23. a 5spd conversion will make a BIG difference, as it will actually letthe motor hit its power curves in all the gears since the car is already 4wd, all the 5spd swap will be a direct bolt on, fit stock, even the shifter console plate!
  24. in like the idea of building shelves on the sides, over the wheel wells, like that in a commercial van, put mesh behind them so tools dont go thru the window!
