  1. That is correct as explained above. It is the cogged ring that the abs pulls its reference from. I dont know for sure that it will interfere but we pull them off because it is on the hub itself. I would probably rub the spindle though if you left it on.
  2. I just thought of this while posting on another thread. I have found the newer style axles found on the 00 on up subies are holding up 10 times better than the style found on the 93-98/99ish. The boots have more convolutions and dont get stressed as much. The only thing you have to do is knock the tone ring off ot the out board joint before install. We started doing it when we ran out of good used older style axles.
  3. If you know someone that has a shop you can get remans from advance for $40. If you are getting a used one try to get one from a 00 and up car. The boots have more convolutions and hold up better. You just have to knock the tone ring off the end before you install it.
  4. Are you close to the guy that works on it for you? All shops play the game of the miraculous ultra low mileage part that they got. The way it works at most places that source used parts is they buy it from some yard with a car that has 120,xxx miles, they sell it to the shop telling them it only has 40,xxx miles and then they sell it to you with 7000 miles. The parameters for these O2s especially the planar type found in the 00 and up models have such tight tolerences that the slightest "insufficency" found will throw the light for 420. At my shop we do these cats all the time. I know I am gonna catch hell for saying that but it is the truth. No offense it is a pricey fix and everyone wants to find a way to say it isn't the cat, but if we tried everything else before replacing the cat we would loose so much labor time it would be insane. 98% of the time we get the 420 code and put a new or 100% known working used one on the light is gone for good. Just had an 02 OB 5spd and an 03 forester this week for it.
  5. These guys have all the correct info above. You arent gonna find it at any auto parts store. That one will be a dealer trip.
  6. Generally RS's run about $4800-10,000. 98 can be had cheapest due to the dual cam 2.5. Just for a reference I sold my 00 BRP RS with 132,xxx miles for $5500, the body was so-so and the guy flew in from Oklahoma and drove it home. $3500 sounds like a pretty good deal. The was recently a lightly modded 99 Silverthorn coupe that needed a little work (nothing major) that someone brought to my work tryin to sell us. If you are interested pm me and I can see if it still around.
  7. It is mounted on the pass strut tower in the probably rusted looking bracket. I have a couple layin around if you need one. The O2 code is downstream (behind the cat)
  8. It is cake to do. REMEMBER TO LOOSEN THE 12MM NUT ON THE FRONT OF THE A/C TENSIONER PULLEY BEFORE YOU START THE ADJUSTMENT BOLT!!!!!!!! All to often am I having people coming into the shop in need of the plastic ear or the whole tensioner due to the first time taking belts off.
  9. You did not do any damage by clearing while running. You said you changed the part over the strut tower? What did you replace? How soon before all of this happened? Check all of you clamped connections and all hoses after the mass air, it sounds like you have a leak post meter. Pull the codes again and post what you find. Don't forgit about the hose underneath the intake tube running to the IAC
  10. Which lift did you decide to go with?
  11. As far as your turbo idea, check this out. This car is bullet proof and that is all this guy runs: http://area1320.powweb.com/forums/viewtopic.php?t=8 there are videos on the page. I know you arent goind to be drag racing it but just to check out the setup.
  12. I started kicking around the idea of my lift to a friend (who is one of those I will fab anything people) and he is psyhced about the new project car. I have a couple of other cars to finish up in the upcoming weeks so for this week it will only be the outback struts and and the wheels and tires, just so I can stand driving it. After that we will start the plans and get rolling. Once it is done and if it seems reliable we will be kicking around the idea of a master plan layout with enough variations to keep it universal enough to work on different EJ laylouts, and maybe come up with a kit for sale at a good price. It will obviously be hammered hard to make sure everything is reliable before we even consider finalizing it and producing more.
  13. I guess I am just gonna start fabbing myself. I am starting to kick around the idea of making some modifications to the stock spring perches and doing a Honda type spring. There is a place down the street from me that will make any type of suspension part you could ever want at a fair price. My whole issue with wanting to buy a kit is time, but I want to come up with a solution to the tire issue. I run an all used Subaru parts shop so cutting up struts and trial and error on modified parts will be no big deal. I will be starting a thread when it gets going and will have lots of pics.
  14. Do AAs come with struts? If I remember aren't their kits around $900 for an EJ? Would it be possible to do something for the 90-99 models? The 00 and up have a completely diff suspension setup but the 90-99s seem to just be upper strut tower pattern differences on the rear. Maybe something could be done as far as a multi bolt pattern for the upper mounting. Would it help if we maybe got a list of deffinates and possibly deposits to get a more reasonable priced EJ lift together? Your price doesnt seem to bad and if there was a set price this could be done for it might motivate people instead of it becoming another unsolved dead thread that will resurface every once in awhile.
  15. I was searching around and saw a company called ozified out of cali. Has anyone ever bought their product? Their prices seem decent. I contacted them regaurding a possible group buy for an EJ lift and asked for a number needed to manufacter the lift. I am awaiting a response. Would anyone else be interested if the price was right? The EA lifts are going in the $300 range.
  16. Neo, I will be joining the club. Picking up a 92 leg wag. today. Getting it for 500 bucks so it will deff be an experiment!!!!! It is obviously getting O/B struts right away and there will be more plans in the works after that. I have a junk set of struts that I will be hacking up and trying to fab new lower spring seats so I can get a bigger tire under it and once that is figured out it will really get crazy. You know what my resources look like so there will be alot of trial and error parts. :Flame:And also there is a place down the street from my house that will custom make springs and whatever suspension parts you would want for a very good price. I am actually kicking around the idea of just starting with a strut cartridge and making my own struts. I will deff be taking alot of pics throughout this project and will post my results!!!
  17. If it comes about that you will need them again I may have them at my work. Did both senders get swapped? If you need them email rich@getusedsubaru.com and I will see what I can set you up with
  18. Try to get belts from any year RS setup that matches yours. Subaru gets goofy with switching seat belt latches. For example I know 97 and 98 Legacys use a diff belt just between those 2 years on the same body style.
  19. Wow!!! I never saw sooo many bad experiences with the Silverstars. I have them in my 99 F150 in the H/L's and fogs for 1.5 years now, the wifes Volvo S70 for 1 year, and all the Subys and they only get turned off with the ign. switch. I have always been happy with the performance on back roads and they really throw a nice clean light. I recommend them to friends and they run them and love them except for one recently in a GMC Envoy that blew in 6 months. From experience they seem to work better in a clear lense style headlight verses the grid style lense.
  20. I don't understand why whenever anyone posts something helpful to people, you get everyone jumping all over it picking apart because of things like titles ect.... This is what leads to arguments and ongoing threads completely getting off topic. This is a message board not something set in stone. It is opinions that form these posts.
