  1. i know the exact brat you are talking about (in CA, tan) it looks like a clean brat, but not near perfect. $1800 would seem fair for one in that shape. years ago it would have probly been a $1k truck. he`ll probly sell it either way.
  2. looks awesome!! the white looks great on it. are you gonna put a black stripe on it now? keep us posted with pics as you assemble it.
  3. from searching around ALOT, i have come to the conclusion that $3500 is a very good amount for a gen 1 brat, $1500 for a good runner, 500-1100 for a beater with some rust. i don`t thing it will appreciate or depreciate much either. the gen 2's seem to be climbing, but the 1's don`t seem to be.
  4. yeah, ea81's are classics:headbang: $1200 seems very fair for the car. i bought my 87 rust free hatch with working a/c and cruise, no rust, very comparable to that car, for $500, but i paid another $600 shipping and put a tranny in it, so pretty equal deal.
  5. holy cow, that means you guys are like 5hrs from me. i`m an hour and a half south of albany. :-\
  6. that may be even better... how far are you from albany and new berlin?
  7. thanks Jerry, i`ll give that a try if i can afford it lol:lol:
  8. i hope to, just finishing the tranny swap in the hatch. i hope everything is all good, including being able to register it:eek: the reciept the guy gave me is a little iffy. :-\ hows the brat?
  9. i lost my owners manual and just finished the tranny swap in my hatch. what is the correct wieght and amount of tranny oil for a ea81 4sp 4wd? thanks Jon
  10. Hi Jerry, what color was the interior? did it have a high rise? thanks Jon
  11. i`d like to get a set of those targa stripes for when/if i get another brat:D
  12. the stock beetle motors actually suited them very well. i drove one once, and it was very capable, and very fun.
  13. i think it would be cool if GD or someone on here started making spfi kits for ea81s. you know, like putting the setups together out of jy cars, then modding the ea82 disty to fit into the ea81, numbering or labeling the wires on the ecu, etc. i`d buy one if the price wasn't too outrageous.
  14. i got a nice set of early 70s wide offset mags suby mags (from australia i`m told), but shipping would be a killer.
  15. oh man, this sucks. i had the car for $300, was going to pick it up tommorow. now the guy tells me he got offered more and sold it:mad: well, it saves me the trouble, but still sucks:-\ thanks for all the replies guys
  16. yea, it has to go 150 miles. i`m gonna try what Imdew says, and hope that it doesn`t do in the rear end. i`ll post back with the results
  17. thats the only way you can even tow an awd car on a dolly. if you take out the drive shaft running from the tranny to the rear diff, the rear wheels can spin freely. the tranny works kind of like a diff when connected to the rear wheels. of course all of the gear oil in the tranny will drain out, but that can be replaced at the end of the tow......
  18. i have all the time in the world:grin: out of work because of my freakin back:mad:
  19. i`m going to pick up a 98 impreza mt with a blown motor. i know in order to tow a awd car on a dolly, the rear driveshaft has to be dropped. how hard is that to do on an impreza? any special procedure? also, what 2.2's will bolt and plug into this car.
  20. cleaned up and driving, you could pull in the neighborhood of $500 for it with those miles. to be honest, it just doesn`t seem worth while unless your buying it to drive or make into an off roader
  21. that would have an ea81 engine with 4sp d/r where the heck is the rust??? it looks pretty clean to me. get it as cheap as possible, i`d offer $100-150.
