OK people, lets see those bumpers......
heres my bumper before I added D ring shackles to the front of it with 3/4" blocks. Bumper is a piece of L channel about 3/16 thick. It is held to the car with some C channel thick wall 2" c Channel.Bumper mounts go into the car 22" with 3 7/16 bolts on each side holding it on. It held up until I got my car stuck in some cement like mud up to bumper.the recovery effort bent the bumper itself and bent a channel support.not to mention, it pulled the bumper a little less than 1/2 an inch further forward in the body(tore the sheetmetal a little)

Id like to put in a tailgate but I am not sure how to set it up to function right.Right now the lower edge of that panel is sitting on the bumper(its how it sat before I played with it) so it would need a fair bit of work to get right but its definably do-able.

So I decided to convert my EA81 wagon wheeler toy into an SUT.Or 4 door trucklet, what ever you wanna call it,etc...Right now its not done.I still have to weld in some cover pieces in the area's where there are gapping holes in the sheet metal like where the D pillar was. Then im going to weld in some pieces to where the window should be to give a bit more of a finished look. Some people will hate it some will like it.I know removing weight from back there helps abit offroad.Anyway, here are some pics of its current state.Eventually I will put in an intergrated roll bar at the back of the "cab" as well as some sheet metal for some lexan to sit.

weld spring perches?
would dowsing it with water make it brittle? Is there a stock spring for a subi that is stiffer than a 2wd EA82 wagon front spring but softer than a 4wd EA81 wagon front spring?

New Subi.... *Updated*
is the sway bar still connected?

weld spring perches?
On my EA81 wheeler toy when I put EA82 suspension under the front of it I seemed to have lost a couple inches in ride height because I am running EA82 FWD springs to help get the best travel out of the front.A little bit helps out a lot.I am wondering if it is a good idea to move the spring perches up on the strut to help with the height drop. Obviously I can't just lay a BIG bead all around it in one go.I will make deep tack welds and work my way around while letting it cool off so I shouldn't have a problem.I know that moving the springs up will increase the preload. So at that point I wonder if it would be just better to run 4wd springs and get my height back at the expense of some some travel. Is there a way to calculate how much moving the perches will effect the preload?

Just mulling an idea over in my head here..
your math works except for one minor problem.the stock tires are narrow and they tuck into the fender wells meaning that they have a smaller fender well then what you are accounting for.Normal offroad tires are much wider than the 175-185's these cars came with. then the tires interfere at the outer edge of the fender well, where the stock tires tucked into. example: stock tire size is about 23" to fit a 27" tire with your calculation would need about a 4" lift. However most 4"/27" tires rubbed when turning or when the suspension moved they needed either cutting or bashing to fit.so in reality to fit 27" tires with no cutting/bashing and no rubbing needs about a 5.5-6" lift. a better way to figure out lift height would be to measure how far from the edge of the tire to the fender is at stock height. for example lets say it is 3.5" and you want to run a 31 which is roughly 8" taller than stock.so 4" closer to the fender well.so to figure out the lift height add the half the difference in tire size plus the stock fender well clearance.in this case: 4" + 3.5" = 7.5" of lift to fit the tires with no clearancing needed. although I am not sure what the stock distance from tire to fender well is,but if you have a stock car it should be easy to measure.

I love wheeling more than mud.Which is why my offroad is mostly trail running with some mud thrown in.

You know I want to go wheeling up at walker but if everyone up there is an ****************** like you seem to be...Maybe I have no business heading up there.at least down here I get respect just for taking a subie through all the holes that the big trucks get stuck in. as for the worthless pictureless threads:How in the hell do you take pictures and drive at the same time? The best I can do is take some after pics and try to tell what happened.

turboing a non turbo ea82
EA82 bodies are good. But if you keep scraping em what are we going to wheel when EA81's become non-existant?

my clutch slipped going up the trailer because I was trying to crawl up it in FWD,because of that I thought it was good.I had put that clutch a month earlier when I swapped in a 5 speed.the clutch looked like it had 1/2 life left(used) then. BTW this trailer is one of those trailers that sits really high off the ground and I was using short ramps. From now on I will use 4lo to drive up onto a trailer. Finally the clutch died while I was up there because I was trying to crawl over rocks instead of doing the momentum approach. so I would appreciate it if you would cut it out.
