New Brat Owners in Tucson, Arizona!!!
Rooinater replied to SuBrat84's topic in Meet n' Greet. Your USMB Welcome Center
it's already in the low 90's out here... but it's looking like i got a tranny to replace... so it'll be a little while. -
arizona has a huge database of trails on the arizona 4wd association's web page. i think that's what it was. hell, for the yuma area i got a ton of gps coordinates for trails. but their are some trails i won't link from that area cause they are on the verge of being shut down.

might try that. well to start off my birthday... flat in the sidewall. so i had to go get new tires... that's a bunch of money i didn't want to go and spend... then the tranny is dumping oil out of the the front of it... or it appears to be the tranny. engine doesn't seem to be losing oil... so new tranny... but the rest of her is working great. the new 31" tires are real nice, need to do a little more clearancing for the tires though. they like to rub offroad.

i wish i was up that way too! the rocks are bigger down here though. got a party to go to tomorrow evening, then pop-a-tops saloon and platinums. but the good news is i'll hopefully have some more offroad pics of lil' roo soon. filled the diffs and hooked them all up. replaced one of the front axles. she drives on her own now!! tires are way out of balance and screwed. so freeway is out of the question. thank god there's a lot of trails and stuff close by... but tomorrow i'm replacing the last axle in the front. changing all the lubricants in the tranny, tcase and engine. then gonna go out on a simple trail. take pics and have some fun before i hang up my keys for the night! it's making a funny noise somewhere in the tranny area. so i'm gona put some of that lucas gear oil in her with the oil change. see if that'll shut her up. put if i get out wheeling i'll make sure i take a bunch of pics! oh did i mention i refabbed the rear suspension brackets. so i could detune the rear coilovers so that they are softer. a hell of a lot better than the stiff ride. and it now sits level or with a very small rake, with the rear shocks adjusted all the way down. also i need to find a cap or a nissan speedo cable to plug that hole on the tcase. it leaks oil from the automatic oiler for the cable or something.... guess i'll have to figure that out. out get a speedo cable cut the cable out and tack weld it closed... or something.... not sure need to see one to find out. what year nissan do i need to buy the speedo cable for??

well went to the hobby shop today and knocked out a lot of the work on her today. welded up the second diff. so i have one welded and a spare welded one for when and if the other one i welded blows up. also repaired the broken stub axle in the lsd today. so as soon as the rtv dries i can fill them tomorrow and place them into the car. then drive her to the hobby shop and change out the front axles. do an oil and fluid changes, and make sure everything is topped of and kosher... then maybe by saturday if all is goes well, for my birthday i can get a little wheeling in before i go get trashed for my 21st b-day!!!! :drunk:

sweet i'd love to do something this summer. a little hot out. how warm does it get in tuscon? i know summer heat here gets up around 125 degrees... a little warm for the roo. i'll be doing some hood modifications to try to combat that. but... still gonna be warm. -

haven't been out to tuscan to do much wheeling. tons of it down here in yuma area. i do have gps coordinates for some trails down in your area. i've been meaning to go do more trails out that way and pheonix. i'm still patching my subaru back together slowly. broke a bunch of stuff and left it that way before i went to iraq... so i'm slowly repairing and fixing her up to go wheeling. hopefully by next month she'll be able to go out and play again. -
sweet! copy cat...

i'm in yuma. but all my subarus are offroaders. welcome!! -
thanks. that's what i needed to know. i know all about the switch wiring, it's been wired up for awhile. right now it's dual fans through 2 relays. which are wired to only be able to turn on when the key is on (that way i can't forget them on...). also wired to be automatic when i fix the switch. it's a 3 position toggle switch, automatic, off, on. i have a crude diagram on my webpage, i think it's still there. after i get the automatic thermo switch fixed, i'll be rewiring all the switches and relays to the ground side. so i can do some fancy switch wiring...

it's still a limited slip... locked is really the only way to be when you are in really difficult terrain. a locker would be ideal but the welded is the best we got right now.Jared

ditch the girl! if i could get around this 150 mile lockdown from base. i'd be up there!! at least my excuse is the gov't won't let me. my car would be done and up there in a heartbeat! if i knew i could go. -
it's not just the reliability and all of that of the r160. cause for most people a small locking diff in a slightly lifted subaru would be perfect. i and several others have tried to find support for getting them made. the fact of the matter is not enough people care enough, or have enough money to make it work. we have found several company's that would. but we'd have to find enough people for a backing to make prototypes and production. the offroad population has grown enough here over the last few years. it might be possible. but you'd have to find enough people to back it with $$ to make it work. start contacting the companies. i know i'll gladly back up for getting them. then i can get one in the front and rear of little roo!!.. that's if i don't sell her when her replacement comes in a few months... but whether i sell her or not, i'll definately buy some to help the process. just don't try any of the lsd companies..... i won't buy an lsd...

tool just makes it perfect. it's the only one you needed. the nor cal though... -
being gentle whenever possible, especially in high traction, high stress times.

mine is an 8"!! yeah i hope it's done by wcss too. really do cause i'm planning on driving it home right now... so i hope it gets done. so brian you gonna be on summer vacation then? we need to get you some tires and adjustable supension! then we go hit up a bunch of trails for a few weeks while i'm home. i want to do a run to walker, reiter and possibly the moon and goofy rocks in naches! i'm gonna have to do a bunch of whelling while i'm back if the new roo is in order. got to familiarize myself with it. so i need to do some light wheeling while i'm home. just making sure i take it easy. Jared
-
have you been hanging around john's house?? if so shhhh.... but little roo is a sweet one too! i just need to fix her up. then probably sell her when her replacement gets done... or not, haven't decided. here's pics of what's wrong with the lsd diff. i'll send pics of the internals of the other diffs as i crack them open.
-
he's right just weld it. if it breaks subaru parts are cheap. that's why we wheel them. just don't buy the parts from a junkyard in yuma, az. tha's rape..... but weld her drive her, keep the spare parts in the rig. that's all you need to do.
-
hahaha. i know what you mean by it's amazing where they go. a few years ago me and tex went to tahuya state park, in washington. ran into some other wheeler's and they were skeptical. we went out to the mud pits. i was eyeballing the bigger hole. a yota with 38's was sitting broke next to it. and the guys we ran into wouldn't try it with thier rigs not even the ones with 33" or the one with 35's. i was told "only in my other yota with 38's." told tex i was going for it. heavy foot on the pedal a few scrapes and hard hits on the diffs. but cut through it. talk about make the broke down yota feel bad... and then tex made it through. that was back in the day with 26's and a 4/3" pk davis. the good ol' days!! lincoln lockers are awesome for subies!

yeah you need to secure your car buying!! especially long drives to oregon......... well i guess i'll shut cause that's where all mine get modified. but i still spend more.... by the way where are those pics of it. you are supposed to send me pics of my new vacation/ around town car?!

i'd usually remove the axle when i wasn't lazy. the rest of the time i'd leave it in and drive for weeks. and i drive all crazy like. never broke anything in the rearend. (till i got a second t case). but like always yes in essance if you are beating on it on the pavement it is going to put wear and stress on it. someday down the road it probably will break in the slick rock. but if you are gentle as possible not right away. especially if you are just running the subaru tcase.
