EJ22 Brat Swap, couple questions for those who have done it
It won't matter you just need the shortest belt you can find to run just the alternator. I read somewhere the alternator bracket needs to be cut slightly to let it fully tension the belt as well. Other than that there are no ill effects of not having the ps pump. It'll free up a little hp and cut off a few pounds too.

Bought a new(er) car today
86BRATMAN replied to 86BRATMAN's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXWell, my arguement against toyota's version is the "lift bolts" like to wear out and break at about 80-90k on the vvtl-i engines. the vvt-i doesn't have "lift" like vtec so it is virtually trouble free. buy comparing vvt-i to vtec is like apples and oranges. vtec and vvtl-i are both apples, just different colors. From what I've read avcs is more like vvt-i because of non-variable lift. Just cam timing changes. The subaru sohc motors do indeed have two cams. One in each head. Our dohc's have four cams total.

Bought a new(er) car today
86BRATMAN replied to 86BRATMAN's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXYes, I know what it is... But not the specifics of how it works. Like engaugement, and exactly what it does. I.E. if its like vvti and just varies the timing. Or like vtec and has a seperate lobe for it to kick over into a complete different cam profile. I could talk a monkey through a vtec motor and make it understand. But this car's stuff is new to me.

Bought a new(er) car today
86BRATMAN replied to 86BRATMAN's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXAnd toyota stole it from Honda. VTEC came out in 88 in japan. And toyota's vvti is variable valve timing with inteligence.

Bought a new(er) car today
We finally found something both the wife and I could agree on. So we traded her 00 Civic Si in on an 06 Legacy 2.5i Special Edition. Black, 5 spd. Now I'm just wondering, how does this avcs system really work?

Hood Pins... Cool or Rice???
I like them. I've had a few cars with locking style that I've completely removed the hood latch on. Eliminates that extra step and confuses people who want to pop your hood

Shifter wobble and thunk
The thunks and violent shaking were fixed with new axles on my 86 4x4 hatch I had a few years back. They were popping in and out of joint. I don't remember if one or two of the ball bearings were gone from them.

Subaru safety vs Honda, Toyota & Others...
86BRATMAN replied to Urban Coyote's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXNot to mention abs, awd, and a MUCH lower theft rate. The newer subaru's with multiple side air bags are ridiculously cheap on insurance compared to what they were before that too.

Subaru safety vs Honda, Toyota & Others...
86BRATMAN replied to Urban Coyote's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXWe're currently looking to get a newer, if not brand new car. Trading in the wife's 00 civic Si. And insurance is cheaper on a WRX than it is on her car...

EJ25 gauge install
The switch for the oil pressure light is right under the alternator. It has one wire going into it, you can't miss it.

Which 2.2 fits in a 98 Forester Automatic with a DOHC 2.5?
86BRATMAN replied to 3Pin's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXThe 95 auto ej22 would be the better choice, in that it is non-interferance. But If you keep on top of timing belt intervals that isn't a concern. Any obd2 ej22 auto will work in it. AFAIK the autos were the only ones with egr systems.
