so if one puts in a "cai" then they should at least fabricate a shroud to separate it from the engine? curious, is there actually any benefit of a cai of the OP without modifying the exhaust? to me this looks like a fairly decent setup. would it be prudent to put more space between the filter and the MAF? so what is the big difference between the Rallispec type stuff and the Ebay (redline motorsport) suppliers?

black sounds like H2SO4 leaking-does it smell or burn your skin? a good battery holds 14.3 or so volts I think. How old? -
It's been cold here in Northern Colorado lately. I check my dip stick once a week (that would be the car's :/) and notice that there is still a high mark where oil pressure has pushed up the oil and sticks to it. I can only hope that there is that same thin film of oil all over the engine. I have a fair amount of slap when the engine first starts but quickly subsides as the engine warms. The lifters have their distinct sound and it takes a couple seconds for the oil to get to them. Yeah, for as bullet proof as the ej22 is described (and the 2.5 as well), for a minute it does sound like some Trabant 2 cylinder on the way out. Maybe not as bad as this though: How many cold starts does it take to get to the bottom of a subaru engine? I don't know, go ask Mr. Nipper.

nice winter setup It would be nice to see what it could really do. can you say subiecat?
-
Yeah, I probably knew that. thanks. I do think aout the continuum between 90/10 and 50/50 and where the mean would be and how often the TCU would actually ask for 50/50 and for how long. The Duty C works a lot harder when it's draining pressure than when it's not-no? It would appear it may be time to add my 98 to the old generation (at least older) forum when I read about the new Impreza and VDC-not a lot of switches to be installed on the '08 ya think. And in the last 3-4 years how many manufactures have added AWD versions-Subaru still best imho.

+infinity Reading all the posts about the solenoid switch has become as nostalgic as watching It's a Wonderful Life. I installed the switch last year but I don't think I am fooled into thinking I can now offroad-the rear diff is still open. Anyways, I want to make sure my clutch pack will last as long as possible with the occasional use of the switch?. 1) make sure the transmission has had time to warm up? may not matter but I flip the switch (open circuit) only when I'm stopped and close it as soon as I don't need it. Winter tires are required before I use the switch. And I should probably flush the AT fluid every 16-18 months or so. from what I've read in past threads, without the switch, if I just put it in 1st gear I am driving with 50/50 split? a hard question: does the switch guarantee a 50/50 split or is that still determined by the condition of the clutchpack. I've heard AWD does diminish somewhat but would this still force 50/50. jon

sorry to hear about the OBS. I would like to know if you had Forester struts-Iirc that give us about 3-4 inches? And what all did you need to lift it up?
-
Zapars OBS deserves another look-ha Please PM me your lift setup. Anyways, glad to hear that the East has finally received it's storm. Colorado's Christmas and New Year's storms were proof positive that AWD in a ~3200 lb package is ideal. I ride the bike mostly in the warmer months but come winter, I want what no other car I've seen has. If you visit our mountain towns you'll notice that 1 in 4 cars seem to be Subarus. There are a lot of crossovers out there now with AWD and some may not be that bad but for now, I'm sold on FHI as well. Andyjo: Dude, I would imagine the New Car Smell has worn off by now-eh?

Has anyone here actually "needed" to replace a newer gen PCV? Filter, wires and plugs sound like excellent preventive and curative maintenance. good to hear that solved the probably sucky idling as well. BTW, I like that when torqued properly, the plugs are pretty much naturally indexed (electrode facing exhaust valves) within a couple degrees
