Attention: Transfer case weak link found
In a few months I'll be going RWD, so we'll see how the 5spd DR holds up in an EA81T.

New Turbowagon...needs help
I'll second the tune up. Also check the adjustment on the throttle stop and the dash pot. These may be out of adjustment and be throwing the idle off. Also check the air temperature sensor and the coolant temp sensor. I could think of more, but I'm trying to walk out the door!

EA 81 Enginer Upgrades
We tend to use the good ole 32/36 DGV series, but others have tried 38/38s and even four bbl Holleys.

WRX Clutch discovery!
Well, I've just been over the Clutchnet.com, and in their online catalog they have no listing for any EA series cars. This sucks, my clutch is slipping and I want a performance replacement! I sent them an email to see if they still carry them and I'll let everyone know what I find out.

VLSD Finally Installed!
Here are some pics, just because I had them.

Nissan Injectors?
Ross, are you sure they are the same? I have heard from some sources that they are the same, and from others that they use different injectors. Have you looked at both side by side to make sure? Has anyone flow tested an EA81T injector? I have a few spare ones sitting in the garage.

VLSD Finally Installed!
Just wanted to add some more observations that I've had since driving the car in more conditions. When trying to drift in gravel, it is harder to rotate the car with the new VLSD. However, when I was driving on mostly flat, snow covered roads last night, the car was a willing partner! Easy to get sliding and even easier to control. This is because I can easily spin the tires in snow as opposed to high speeds in gravel.

turbo internal leak
I would only suggest having a professional work on your turbo. It spins VERY quickly and if any of the moving parts are out of balence, the whole thing can self destruct. Just my two cents.

VLSD Finally Installed!
Well guys, I finally got to drive the car in the snow. Like All Talk said, the car is harder to rotate, but now, when it starts slipping or is on the edge of slipping, the car is very grippy and will go anywhere I point it! It is VERY smooth, I can't even tell it is kicking in except that it will drive through anything. A few days ago I drove up a forest service road, almost slid off (because of lack of traction, not goofing off), but chains saved me. This was with the open diff. With the new diff and no chains I drove until I was almost bottoming out on snow, so I turned around. I drove probably 4 miles further than I did with just chains and 4WD. If you have one of these sitting around, PUT IT IN!!! You won't regret it! Oh and it has the same spline count as a normally asperated EA81/82, not the turbo ones, so I will fit in any old sube.

VLSD Finally Installed!
Well after having this diff sitting in my garage all autumn, I finally got around to filling it with Redline fluid and installing it in my wagon. Haven't had a chance to test it out in the snow, but I did do some standing starts in gravel and so far it launches very hard, but the car is harder to rotate now in the slick stuff. I'll be going up to work at Snoqualmie Pass tomorrow (Where it dumped this morning), and I'll post back with the results compaired to the open one. By the way, this is a 3.900 VLSD from a 91 Legacy SS and it bolted into my car without any problems.

Anyone w/a passing light......
A few years ago I did a retro fit on my 84 wagon. It was pretty easy actually. Here are some pics: http://www.ultimatesubaru.org/photos/data/500/18DSC00753-med.JPG http://www.ultimatesubaru.org/photos/data/500/18DSC00754-med.JPG

Help! Fog of Death! Dead R-DEF
Did DLs ever come from the factory with rear defrosters? The reason I ask is that a previous owner may have installed a rear window with a defroster grid but your car may not have been equipped to operate it. This might explain why you can't find a button for it on the dashboard.

Who's Car is this from Bellingham?
Was that picture taken at Bellis Fair?

changing tranny/LSD gear oil
I think that you should put the NS oil in your transmission and the regular Redline oil in the diff. Do a search for redline oil in the old gen forum and I'm pretty sure thats what you'll come up with.

Why a rear factory LSD will not work in the front...
Yes, go on...

what do you like about your suby?
I love the fact that I have such an easy car to work on and even when something goes wrong, it is such a breeze to fix. I also like how our cars are built like legos, I mean in a few weeks I will have the 5 speed DR tranny out of an '85 wagon, a WRX downpipe and intercooler, Legacy turbocharger and rear LSD, XT6 rear sway bar, EA82T rear disc brakes and almost all those parts are bolt on!!! The handling is amazing for a car with such poor front camber, and it is the BEST winter car ever! I can pass people in the unplowed lane in the mountains at 50+ and when I get to work I hear everyone else complaining about how their trucks were all over the road (Happened today actually!).

Pics of the new wheels mounted on the brat
Those wheels are SWEET!!! Kinda remindes me of the General Lee.

Retrofitting stiffer struts to EA81
Does anyone know if any struts from any other manufacturers will easily retrofit to our cars? Looking for something that is shorter overall and that can be found in a performance variant.

How Many Turbo ea81 Brats around?
I saw a silver one with red targa stripes in the Cost Cutter parking lot in Bellingham a few nights ago.

Man! First real winter test of the 'roo, <3 <3 <3
I agree, my subie is UNSTOPPABLE!!! A friend across the hall as an Audi A4 1.8T and I would go so far as to say that even with hardly enough tread to be legal, my car was better in the snow than his car. He had studded snows on, but with the same on my car I know, I could keep up. Can't wait to get my rear limited slip installed!!!

im liking my gm alternator
