Stereo Installation Finished!
Oh, I also forgot to mention that I tossed the dinky wagon rear door handles for a set from a sedan. I had to add a second plug in the door for the screw (The big door handles are longer), but other than that it fit in perfectly. It is MUCH more comfortable to use the armrest instead of keeping your arm in your lap.

Stereo Installation Finished!
I spent months petering away on this stereo. I wanted to keep the factory look while improving the placement of the speakers. For the front speakers I decided that the stock placement was adequate. I was told to just put speakers in the doors, which would require me to throw away the map pockets and have the speaker firing into the front seat. Since I wanted an original look I decided to build custom brackets to hold 3 inch pioneer speakers. That is outlined in this post: http://www.ultimatesubaru.org/forum/showthread.php?t=38378&highlight=speakers In the EA81 wagon, the rear speakers are mounted in the back door and fire directly into the seat coushin. This had to be remidied! I busted out the hole saw and built some speaker housings to hold 5 1/4 inch Sony xpold speakers. I had to source clean door panels to get rid of the original speaker grill and opening. Here are the pics of those: To power the whole system a friend of mine donated a used headunit. The faceplate is partly held on with orange goo, so there was a reason it was free. This went in a slanted console from an early 80's wagon. Underneath the stereo is a guage panel that has morphed through about four generations. I know the paint doesn't match, but honestly, that was as close as I could get. Anyway, let me know what you think!

Bellingham here I come!!!!!
Yup, thats me!!! Feel free to stop and honk or whatever, especially if there are other people in the car. That way I wont look like such a dork for calling out every EA series 'ru I see! I think that tan hatch is a teacher's car, but I don't know who's yet. Also, you should stop by the VRI and check out Quattro some time. Sight seeing in the 'ham, hahaha.

Steering probs in snow...
I haven't had my wagon in snow that was too deep (Maybe 6-7" at the most), but I haven't noticed anything getting messed up by the snow. I must say though, subaru sure did build a good drift car (gravel/snow) when they made the 84 turbo wagon!

Anybody out there who HASN'T seen my Off Road Vids?
To anyone who is even remotely interested by this offer, DO IT! Not only is it for a good cause, but I really enjoy watching these, I even brought them to college with me to show all the sube haters who don't think we offroad. I have all five tapes and they are worth every penny! Best sube footage around!

Off Road Lights Anyone?
Here are my fog lights. This is my street car so I have no worries about mounting the lights low on the car. Hella 500 using the EA81 foglight switch:

81 4wd wagon
Well it looks like Snowman beat me to it, but to answer your questions: 1) If the damage is on the front of the car, the body panels from any 80-84 car will work. (There are some cars that have the same body panels until 89, but use the above years for reference). Headlights, grills and bumpers changed over the years, so if you need those, get them from a matching year. 2) Depending on what tools you have avalible to you and if you have anyone to help you, a clutch would not be out of the question for a novice (These cars are VERY easy to work on). While doing the clutch, I would suggest replacing the throw out bearing, gear oil, maybe the rear main seal of the engine, and the clutch cable depending on its condition. Also use this time to clean up the engine compartment and to check for things that need to be greased or tightened. The only other thing I would do would be to get a factory service manual for your car. I think I have a spare one for your year, so shoot me a PM.

Leone is back. Check out pics!
If you want stiffer springs in front, you can track down EA81T front springs and anti-roll bar. They are slightly lower (Not by much) and stiffer (Again, not by much).

Advice Needed for Wheel Bearings
Does anyone have any hints or advice for replacing the front wheels bearings on a 4WD EA81? The FSM mentions having the bearings pressed out. Does this necessitate a hydrolic press or can you get the bearings out at home in the basement?

Leone is back. Check out pics!
Do you have any of those pictures in a larger size? A real EA81 rally car... My dreams have come true!!!

Sweet! It'll be sweet to have another lifted sube in the area! I also go to WWU, so we should go looking for some offroad spots near by.

Drags - 14.5 sec **video clip posted**
I'm also using the MSD Blaster 2. Didn't notice a difference from stock, but I never pounded the car with the stock coil.

Legacy LSD in Leone. Is it possible?
If its from a turbo legacy, I'm pretty sure its a 3.900 ratio. I have no idea about the international cars however...

Tribeca Review Gets Auto Reviewer Fired
carfreak85 replied to swc7916's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXHe was pretty harsh on the design of the STi and it's interior, which in truth is pretty damn good and a lot better than subarus used to be. I don't agree with him on a lot of his statements on both cars.
