  1. IIRC big valve heads only came in '83 automatics, then every EA81 from '84 on. I probably have that wrong, but nothing pre-'83 will have big valve heads.
  2. Obviously my mileage is varying because I needed the sleeves for the bolts. OP, feel free to skip the sleeves, but do have a backup plan if you do end up needing them.
  3. elFreddo, not the pressure plate moving, the EA82 flywheel moving on EA81 bolts. And trust me, they were torqued to factory specs.
  4. EA81 flywheel bolts don't play nice with the hole size in an EA82 flywheel. When I started my car for the first time after the conversion, I thought I had rod knock. Turns out the flywheel was rattling around on the skinny EA81 flywheel bolts. I'd say if you're using the EA82 flywheel, the bolt sleeves are required (but what do I know).
  5. Well gang, looks like I'm jumping on this bandwagon. Nolathane upper anti-roll bar endlink bushings, Superpro lower anti-roll bar and leading rod bushings for the EA82. I'll report back once installed with some miles on them.
  6. NM, figured it out, I think. FSM is basically no help in finding the clockspring pinouts.
  7. You olny need the EA82 flywheel/bolt spacers if you want to use the EA82 clutch. (This is what I did) What color is your interior?
  8. For some reason I can't copy/paste on this particular computer, but I'll give you directions: On the main forum page, scroll all the way to the bottom, looking for the "Ultimate Subaru Repair Manual." Click "Transmission, Axle, and Brakes." Look for "EA81 automatic to 5 speed manual." The really good write up is called "Complete Recipe: EA81 auto->manual." Do a search for this one.
  9. Either you broke the cable, or you didn't plug it back into the cluster all the way.
  10. I literally write the service documentation for commercial diesel engines used in big rigs. The recommended oil change interval for our engines is 30-75,000 miles, depending on duty cycle (vocational is 30k mi, line haul is 75k mi). We specifically DO NOT allow supplemental oil additives, we do not allow "top offs," as long as you want to maintain your factory powertrain warranty.
  11. PATRIK SANDELL FOR THE WIN!!! Unfortunately David Higgins retired before the end of the second day...
  12. Anyone? Point me to the right page in the FSM, at least!
  13. There is a thread in the USRM that pretty thoroughly explains the parts you need and the modifications you need to make to the vehicle. I've done this swap using this how-to and it is stupid easy, as long as you have all the right parts. The how-to says you can't keep the cruise control, but I did, not hard at all.
  14. You shouldn't have to chase threads on a brand new part though...
  15. I need to adjust the throttle cable in my car but the part of the sleeve that clips to the firewall is broken, rendering any adjustment useless. If any members live outside the US, would you please run this part number for me to see if its still active? 37114FA070 - Throttle cable This is the part number for a 1993 WRX Type-RA throttle cable, but I'm not 100% that is what is on this car. (It's not a EA82 or EA82T cable, that is certain.)
  16. I'm installing an aftermarket steering wheel in my RX-RA and was wondering if anyone knew the pinouts on the 3-pin electrical connector on the clock spring of a cruise control equipped EA82? I looked in the FSM, but it wasn't obvious in the electrical section. I would just ground each pin to test for the horn honk, but I was already having issues with the horn in this car. Thanks in advance!
  17. In Shelton, WA this coming weekend. I was at the Oregon Trail Rally last month and had a great time! It would be fun to meet some of the other local members, maybe have our own little meet and greet/BBQ? Any takers?
  18. JiggsCasey, we should meet up some time for a photo shoot with our two red coupes!
  19. YMMV, but urethane needs more frequent maintenance than rubber bushings. Another trick it to wrap the anti-roll bar in Teflon tape before you install the bushings. This should outlast any grease, but will still need to be replaced every so often.
  20. Make sure you continue to lube those puppies. Urethane really doesn't like to be installed in twisting applications (such as sway bar mounting bushings). They prefer compression forces and will eventually start to squeak and wear our in a rotational application, unless lubed frequently.
  21. Jeff, sent you a private message. I'm in Seattle as well.
  22. Same color as my 87! Pics of the damage?
  23. Do you mind sharing the landed cost of those two gaskets?
  24. Gloyale, I can promise you that isn't the case. An oil-soaked mat that close to the exhaust is an extreme fire risk and NHTSA would never allow that (I work hand-in-hand with both NHTSA and the warranty department for an OEM). The fact that oil drips onto it is coincidence.
