  1. CrazyEights, you got those photos handy? I'd like to start reviewing what needs to be done.
  2. Well if that's what some stranger told your daughter, who told you, who is telling us, then it must be correct. Post pics once you've got it all mocked up!
  3. You must trim a 4-beam grill to fit the center lamp. The switch mounts to the left of the steering column, in one of the holes by your left knee. There should be a diagram in the USRM.
  4. The problem, as stated above, is that the EJ rack is wider than an EA rack. This pushes the inner tie rod pivot point out of alignment with the lower control arm's pivot point. The problem with that is that when you drive over a bump, the tie rods and control arm don't travel in the same arc. This difference in travel can introduce a small (or large) amount of steering input that the driver did not ask for, making the car feel darty and hard to trust on bumpy roads at speed. Using EJ axles doesn't effect steering geometry. The EJ knuckles don't move the ball joint or strut, so the only real change is the Ackerman angle, due to the relocated steering pickup on the EJ knuckle, relative to the same pickup on the EA knuckles.
  5. Our account didn't make the cut this year, but there are some really great IG accounts that the folks at SRT USA did highlight! Check out our account! @templeoffuji https://drivetribe.com/p/best-subaru-instagram-of-2017-srtusa-NVfIkOcIR-Ka5m3VUKlHkw
  6. Sounds like a blown head gasket or a crack in the head between the valves on at least one cylinder.
  7. Do any of the air struts on your XT6 still hold air? I'd be interested in those if yes.
  8. Hahaha, sorry, just wanted to be clear! It's amazing how easily someone's words or intent can be mistaken when you're reading text. 605 mm, great! Apparently the EJ racks are too wide and throw off the steering geometry on an EA when installed. My mission is to find a quicker rack that could be retrofitted to an EA chassis.
  9. Yes, overall rack width NOT INCLUDING tie rod ends. Thanks!
  10. Does anyone know the overall width of an EA82 power steering rack WITHOUT tie rod ends installed?
  11. Haven't been available here for some time, at least the tan ones. They seem to bee made of a less robust plastic than just about every other part of the interior, besides the dash vents.
  12. I'll probably grab one or two, but this locker option is not going to help broken diff stub shafts or blown DOJs.
  13. I'm interested in a helical LSD for the R160, but if pressed, I'll just swap in an R180.
  14. Would anyone be interested in a run of hubs that are STI patterned? 5x114.3 instead of 5x100?
  15. DO NOT take out a loan to repair/restore a car. Save your money and either replace that vehicle, or fix it a little at a time. DO NOT go into debt for a car.
  16. Fog lamps can be ineffective if the headlamps are on in a heavy fog, regulations be damned. My WRX has had the independent fog lamp mod since 2002.
  17. Subasaurus, I have to sort of disagree with you on the zinc thing. YES, ZDDP can damage a catalytic converter over time, but think about it for a moment. How would oil get back to the cat? Sure, piston rings aren't 100% effective at cleaning the cylinder walls and PCV introduces blowby gasses to the combustion chamber. However! To get enough oil to the cat to damage it, you'd have to have an engine that burns a TON of oil. I'm talking Bob Marley levels of smoke out the tailpipe. TL;DR - Zinc/ZDDP/et al are only bad for a catalytic converter if your car burns oil. If you have a late model turbocharged Subaru DO NOT use 5w-30, DO NOT use Resource Conserving (RC) oil.
  18. NorthWestern, is your Subaru turbocharged? The general consensus in the late model Subaru forums is that Rotella T6 5w-40 is one of the best budget oils for our engines, and has a lot more ZDDP than other mass-market oils, but not as high an amount as more boutique oils like Motul and Redline. I've been using T6 5w-40 for about two years now and have nothing but positive things to say about it, it often goes on sale too. That being said, I will never, ever used a 5w-30 in my WRX, too thin, and if you abuse the engine with a poor oil in it, that oil will quickly shear down to practically water.
  19. No offense taken, just trying to provide resources where possible.
  20. DaveT, are you willing to loan out that tool so I can copy it?
