Another solution which a lot of people here dont care for is Gold Eagle engine stop leak or Barrs, I used Gold Eagle to stop my rear main seal from leaking when it had 100,000 miles on it and it never leaked again, I lost the engine at 288,000 miles because of a idle pully that came apart. Also I never had to change the cam seals after using this. It's to bad so many people are afraid of such a good product. As the seals get old they dry and shrink this product will gently cause them to expand to feel the gap.

I just changed the fuel pump on my 97 Legacy wagon, pull the line off at the filter and then turn engine over if no fuel is coming out then unplug elc. connector at the fuel pump and see if you have current. Check it with a dig. meter it dont need to be 12 volts. If you have current then turn key off while you have the cover off. Have someone else turn key on if you here no noise from pump you need to replace it. If you have no current then the relay is under the center panel under steering wheel at least it is in mine. Fuel pump from O' Reillys cost me about 80.00 dollars, It is more easy to get the whole unit from junk yard and replace it that way. I had to change the wires and the rubber seat with the one from O'Reillys but they do have these needed parts in the box with the pump. Be careful when turning engine over with fuel line off, you may want to add a line long enough to run over the fender to keep it away from the engine.

Graphite is what is best to use on locks, it comes in a small tube and you just clip the end and squeeze it in the key hole. Dont use it if you have sprayed oil in untill the oil dries up.

Also check the backing plate you may have bent it in a little when working on the brakes, and it may be draging aganist the rotor.

Go to Wolo web site and listen to all of the horns they produce. I got the Dixie horn for my son about six years back and installed it in his Buick, it had I think six trumpets and was not hard to install. Also Harbor Freight sells a two trumpet air horn.

There's not one on the Legacy so you probably dont have one on the Forester.

They are in the Haynes manual, or you can probably find them here. The strut flange bolts are around 100 ft. lbs. I not sure what the top ones are I think it was around 150 in. lbs but check and make sure first.

After taking the nut off you must remove the bolt completely, I have always been able to pull the ball joint out by hand or with a small bar against the control arm, others have really had tough times getting them out. But I have mine apart more often then most.

No, maybe really short distances with the F.W.D. fuse in but I would not.

Be sure and note the orination of the top hat with the strut flange when you take them apart, so you can put them back together correct, notice you will have a arrow pointing out on the top hat, mark the orination of this and spring and strut flange with a paint marker before you take it apart. Use a torque wrench to tighten the three small top bolts they will break easy if you over do it.

You can take one of the plactic covers off in the front and see if the belt is broke, but if it is broke the engine will turn over much faster when you crank on it then it will if it is not broke, so you should be able to tell without removing the cover. You might want to take the fuel line off at the filter and see if you are getting fuel. My fuel pump went out last week and it run kind of like what you are saying yours does.

I just sprayed carb. cleaner into the big hose that goes to it, other here I think have taken them apart and cleaned them.

I agree I think cleaning my I.A.C. was what finnaly stopped the stalling in mine.

I use parts from the wrecking yard a lot if the motor is non interference which yours is I see nothing wrong with it. Plus you get to stay in practice taking it apart which is the best part of it.

I have the fuse in my 97 Legacy wagon it has over 320,000 miles on it and it got torqe bind a few months back and it does the same thing as you say yours is doing, so I would say you probably just have front wheel drive for some reason.

If you have a full size spare replace one tire and wheel at a time and try it after each change you may have a belt seperated on one of the tires.

I can answer one question, yes the transmission comes as a complete unit with the front diff. I know because I just bought one a few months back for a 98 Legacy wagon you can look to pay around 400.00 to 900.00 dollars for one and you can find all you need by putting your request with Junk Yard Dog. The only thing tough about changing it was getting to the torqe converter bolts the rest was easy.

Do a search for Junk Yard Dog and then post your request with them it will then go out to yards all over the county and the ones that have what you are hunting will get back with you by E- mail, This is the best way I have found to find parts try it.

obd is the computer it stands for on board diagnostics the 96 is non interference the interference starts at 97 year model even through they were manufactered in late 96.

The one time I dealt with them I got off on the wrong foot to start with. That may be why they was not much help for me.

If you got help from the B.B.B. you are lucky ussally they just provide information. You must have been dealing with a mail order company that was really bad for them to help you, glad you have got help from them I never have got much out of them.

I see you dont appear to be interested to much in the ideal of the court, so I will offer you another suggestion, find a wrecking yard and have them replace the engine with a used one. A lot of yards will replace the engine for you and if they dont they ussally work with a shop within a few miles that will. You should be able to have this done for around 2,000.00 dollars at least that is in the ballpark for Texas for most cars. And most will come with some kind of warranty.

Colorado is 7,500.00 and Amazon has a book, Winning Big In Colorado Small Claims Court. Everyone should have the book for their State they are easy to read and understand or at least the Texas one is.

The warranty should have that information on it, but it should be with the one that sold the engine to you, or to Subaru. If they sold the engine to Subaru then you can claim against each, as the shop becomes an agent of the first.
