Ellevehc's gl build thread
Great story! Glad everything worked out for you. That car should be getting close to 30 mpg so you got some work ahead of you. There are a few yards in your neck of the woods. Lynnwood PNP, Arlington PNP and a private yard in Lake Stevens. Row52 is your friend trust me for all the hard to come by parts. Good luck! Mike

What Have You Done to your Soobie lately? (Please post in here and keep it going)
Finally got my carb issues dealt with and reinstalled the weber.. Oh man do I love to hear her idle like that.. IT was getting really old having to kick the pedal to bring the RPMs back down.

Fuel gauge issues (still) a little info please
Since my gauge works (tested to be sure) I am now down to wiring. Just wondering if someone with a gen2 FSM might look to check the wiring colors and which pin the fuel sender uses at the dash. This will be my weekend project. Yay! Don't know if it matters but it is an early 83 model.. The one in my avatar. Mike

The Blu Bomb
Hmm.. Sounds like a challenge to me!

The Blu Bomb
Sounds like a blast! I thought about the snorkel adapter only for a remote air cleaner purposes. I think a build like this could be fun also with spfi. Shouldn't those pistons have valve reliefs in them or is that the spfi pistons? Nicely done! Mike

83 Brat - No ECM and failing emissions
Whcih parts of the smog test did you fail? Have you taken the test to a local shop to see if they can point you in the right direction? Just a starting point..When was your last tune up? Are you missing any of your emissions stuff? Check your EGR. Tat is all I can come up with @ 5:13 a.m. Mike

overheating quickly
Thanks Rob.. I borrowed from my hatch for a minute. Waiting on a new coolant temp sensor before I throw in the towel on a waste of money.

Headers anyone?
Ok so I got a wild hair and did some poking around for a while till I found this... just wish I could find the audio clip. http://www.ausubaru.com/forum/showthread.php?t=25070 Which made me think on it a little different so a new round of searching brought me to this. I got linked here and thought of the possibilities. http://www.stainlessheaders.com/flanges Enjoy

Tough Decision to turbo or not to turbo?
Go Turbo for the rarity of it. Keep the original tranny and do 5 spd dual range swap.. better gears.

My 84 Gl Starts Slowly Overheating After A Little Idling
T-stat?

overheating quickly
Still could be HG.. coolant level has not diminished yet but I cant leave it running that long. I have not flushed the rad yet it is on the to do list just to make sure.. I need to see if I have a spare water pump also and the rad I can swap from another car.. Just need to make a little more time.

overheating quickly
Yes.. we talking less than ten minutes from cold to shut down.

overheating quickly
The car has done this since I brought it home. I have removed the t stat. no viual leaks detected from pump, rad, or hoses. Swapped exhaust ( cat was definately plugged) as it wouldnt rev with the old one and does so freely now. all parts of the hoses and rad feel to be the same temp so I must guess the pump is working and checked when I topped off the coolant and burped the system. So I am now down to either I missed something or I am dead wrong with the pump or radiator. What else should I be looking for a HG? I am not blowing steam so would have to be completely internal with no oil water mix. Mike

Meet Ash, my other Loyale Sedan.
Nice find! Sounds like most of the issues are small and irritating and not to serious so even better. My flock has grown again also but I am still uncertain what the newbie will become yet... a runner and sold or parts. I need to make some wrench time. Mike

Pinging under load
So I got everything tuned up set advance to 10^ before on my 83 sedan and everything was fine till I actually put a load on ( went up a hill ) I know this isn't a high comp engine so regular unleaded should be fine. Do I need to mess with the weber or did I do something stupid or did I just miss a step that I have completely forgotten? Mike

aftermarket lights mod
No flames necessary I understand what your saying.. I was under the impression ( though I have never looked ) that there is a separate relay aside from the switch for the headlights. That said the OP mentioned that they come on just not the way he would like and so I did assume that the switch is not the culprit in this situation. Then I thought that maybe running a relay as a trigger off the factory light plugs with larger wire to the lights from the relay which would minimize voltage drop for another 30 years.

aftermarket lights mod
I recommend using a relay and a switch but you can also tap them into your running light or your blinkers (still through the relay) Any panels from a gen 2 car with the same headlights will work the common years are 1980-1984 however there are some brats till 87 and hatches till 89. Mike
