  1. I'll try to hunt it down to take a picture. The variations over the years were minimal, but it WILL bar you from fitting the wrong-shaped plug into your connector.
  2. That is one of the sweetest-sounding BRATs I've ever seen.
  3. Ah, never mind...I didn't end up getting the car. Dang! I guess I'll just work on getting a little more oomph out of my current 2000 Outback for now...
  4. Ha ha...I like the way you think...but isn't that a bit more conplicated than just upping the compression? :-p
  5. Are you sure? I could have sworn some of the Outback Limited models and maybe even those with "Cold Weather Package" had LSDs...
  6. Get fuel injection. I've had two carbed EA cars through the past few winters and it is just a pain when the temp drops below 10* or so. Go FI for sure...my Loyale fires right up with hardly any trouble in the winter - I've driven it at -20 *F...
  7. Awesome! Thanks frogstar. Yous a hero! And I like that scoop on the Imp, but I don't know...I think the cowl area is a little safer...albeit not as awesome looking...
  8. Both would be fun...high comp w/turbo...but scary. Where is McBrat? He had a sweet home-brewed turbo Outback, right? Anyone know about that? I can't seem to find it... Also, I'm leaning more toward the EJ-stuff..not EZ or EG.
  9. Are you planning to keep the EA mill in there? Or is this going to be an EJ wag-hatch-Franken-beast? Huge electronic-high 5!
  10. Wow. That is really cool. Must be pretty dang quick, too!
  11. Thanks! I think finding something running to drop in would be way more cost-and-time-effective. Then I can just sell off the old crap currently in the car. So, assuming I wanted to snag a running engine (maybe engine and tranny), which would be the most advantageous route to take? Pros/cons of each choice? - EJ22T (maybe 2.4 stroker or something?) - Running EJ25 to turbo myself (probably go SOHC Phase II) - Running EJ22 to turbo myself (stroker?) - EJ20G engine from eBay - What about an EG33? It should bolt right up to the existing 4EAT, right? Is there room for that big, long motor in there? - Would an EZ30 be unreasonably hard to fit? What do those things cost? (Sidebar: This isn't going to be a daily driver...just a project/fun 'roo)
  12. Some kind of drain/water diverter shouldn't be too hard to work up...did you make something like this in yours?
  13. The part for mine was something like $95 at Autozone. I snagged one at our salvage yard (where they pull it for you) for $37. They even guaranteed it. Come to think of it, I have an extra lying around somewhere that had the wrong plug shape on the end. If you end up needing the sensor, let me know. If the plug fits yours, I'll hook you up for way cheaper then the 'zone or NAPA!
  14. Ooh, not a bad idea. I kind of like it. That short intake tract would sound excellent as well. I wonder how ONE RS/OBS/22B vent would look on the Legacy hood? Would that be ricey? Who can photoshop that for me?
  15. I found a pretty good deal on a nice '97 Outback with a siezed engine. If I buy it, I'm thinking perhaps a semi-low-buck turbo build would be fun. But here is the question: Should I find an EJ22T or 20G to toss in (I can't wire it myself...but I can do the other stuff) or rebuild the DOHC EJ25 that's already in there with a small turbo on it? Dollar for dollar, what would be the most reliable and relatively easy way to get, say...200+ HP numbers from this thing? The car currently has an auto transmission...which I will be getting rid of in favor of a manual box. Any ideas/opinions here would be appreciated as well. Anyone with some swap experience here - feel free to chime in with some advice. This will be my first Subaru build ever, so please feel free to impart your wisdon, oh, Subaru masters...and point out anything I might forget. Thanks, guys. - Tyler
  16. I'd like to see this pig covered in skidplates and body armor. And mud.
  17. 'Tis a sad day when such a 'friend' expires. Glad to hear the occupants made it out okay. Are we going to see a part-out thread?
  18. Keep up the good work...you've got the makings of (dare I say it?) one of the sweetest Subarus in Spokane!
  19. That thing is impressive! And it is too pretty! I love it. And I agree that the approach angle needs to be a bit better on this beast. Radiator in the back! Metal gone! Tires moved forward! Who says wheeling Subes is old news?! Thanks, guru...for keeping the spirit alive.
  20. You'll likely be looking at far greater fuel economy...the EJ18s are mega-efficient. Not to mention fuel injection (wait - maybe not...I know nothing about non-US EJ history)...and the more durable transmission...and the EJs like lower RPMs quite well...probably more than the EA.
  21. I am thoroughly impressed...the Segway stunt blows my mind. That guy on the scooter (even though Block is a professional driver) has some figurative coconuts dangling from his torso...I would have crapped my pants...
  22. I haven;t played in ages...dang that was fun back in the day...and freezing the balls is a bunch of hooey. The paint is oil-based! I've had paintballs in sub-0* weather for an all-day event and the paint was still totally liquid. Freezing them just makes the shell lose its structural integrity. Sidebar: as far as I know (and we tried it dozens of times), you will break balls in your gun WAY before they have enough velocity to break automotive glass...
