  1. This is almost exactly what I get in my '00 Outback wagon, except on the freeway I keep it at about 75 MPH. 27 MPG freeway (75-80 MPH) 29 highway (65 MPH) 22 city (stop and go, 35 MPH roads mostly) 24 mixed I've gotten this fuel economy (with hardly any variation) since I got the car 80k miles ago.
  2. It's official. I have to lift my OBW. Is that with no limited slips? Just welded center? Impressive...
  3. I guess the thing that bothers me about chiropractic therapy is that...it never ends. It seems like people are patients for life. If they fixed stuff, you wouldn't need to go back 500 times! ha ha /end hijack
  4. I can't wait to see a Gen I Legacy with your paddle shifters. And...if it works, I say go for it (I guesss....... lol). And I don't know about your primary care doctor, but mine doesn't twist my neck and punch me in the spine.
  5. They will, however, fit 15" wheels - which makes buying winter tires a heck of a lot cheaper. I think the smaller brakes ran until '02, though...
  6. This is great! I love to see fellow Spokanites building cool stuff! If you need a shop hand, let me know! I wanna see this thing... Keep up the good work, man.
  7. Carfax won't tell you about timing belts. If you purchase from a dealer, ask them about the t-belt. A lot of the dealers familiar with Subarus around here do the timing belts just as protocol in cars with 80-120k miles (if they're not sure whether it's been done).
  8. The H6 began in '01. The head gasket became less of an issue in '00, but some say it wasn't completely resolved until '03. I have a 2000, and it went 192k miles on the original HG without problems. Most changes in the 00-04 Outbacks are very minor.
  9. I put "Feathered Friends" and "Westcomb" stickers on my Outback today.
  10. Two more things: - It's great that you are both alive and well - Chiropractic care is a dangerous, illegitimate practice with no medical backing. You should see a physical therapist. They're trained by doctors...with medical degrees. Chiropractors are hacks.
  11. Man, I've never even seen this thing in person, but I'm gonna miss it. Ha ha. I've sure enjoyed reading about the modifications (paddle shifters, etc) you've built into this thing. I'm thoroughly impressed. My Outback poured out a little oil for a fallen comrade when she heard about this...
  12. Strange looks don't bother me! I wanna see it!
  13. I sure would like to check out the car. Would it be difficult to visit it at the university?
  14. Interesting...what modifications? I've always kinda wanted one of those...
  15. I really wish I could do this!!! Argh. I'm gonna try to get in on the winter ice driving school. That sounds really cool. I've wanted to do the Primitive thing for a long time. It seems like a really awesome program for a pretty awesome price!
  16. Agreed. We're all excited to see the result here.
  17. I would love to have a high-comp N/A motor in my Outback for offroad purposes... too bad I wouldn't get much more power if I made a frankenmotor...
  18. I'd like to take a moment to point out how FTW this response is... If there's one thing I love, it's proper spelling and grammar! /end hijack ...proceed.

The EA-series car will be cheaper. The OBS will be fancier, with better road manners. Just figure out which one you prefer, and go to work!
  20. GD - could you estimate what kind of power levels that hybrid combo would put out? Has anyone dyno'ed that build (or a similar one)? and what kind of comp ratio would that produce?
  21. You better be putting a fair bit of sidewall on them 19s to make a difference... But if you want a super quick car, the taller gearing would destroy your acceleration...
  22. Keeping the windshield wipers would be sweet...
  23. Bigger tires is BY FAR the easiest/cheapest/fixable if you don't like the changes method. I have about 1.2" more diameter on my 2000 Outback (4.44 final drive) and it made a nice difference in my freeway RPM...
  24. I have a beat-to-heck Loyale that's eagerly awaiting a transformation like this... let's do it. Only thing is...that much tube has to be spendy! :-\ And I have no welding or tube bending skills...(or equipment) - but by the looks of your recent projects, you sure as heck do!
  25. I would definitely do this if the following things could be accomplished (pretty easy stuff) : - keep it legal for road use (throw on some LED turn signals, brake lights, etc) - Keep it highway driveable (easy) - make a flip-down windshield for off-road use - 4 seats! I would totally sacrifice a EA82 car for that if I could keep driving it on the street...
