  1. Well, I won't promise you won't get more power or fuel economy, but based on the science/mathematics behind it, the likelihood of increased performance seems low.
  2. Usually (on our cars) cold air intakes (or, more correctly, LOUD AIR INTAKES) are actually HOT air intakes. It sucks in hot engine bay air (which is less dense than cooler outside air), yielding LESS power/fuel economy than stock. A lot of the aftermarket intake setups are useless. The intake from the factory on our 2.5s (sort of "ram air") is actually quite efficient. CAIs do, however, sound super cool on boxer motors... I love that throaty growl....
  3. Is my intake manifold compatible with the DOHC heads? And if not, will my wiring work with the DOHC intake?
  4. I know. Using the thick DOHC head gasket, the CR would be 7.2, I think. Thin HG would yield 7.7. Custom pistons to alleviate this, perhaps?
  5. It looks like my CR with the 2.5 heads on a 2.2T block would run about 7.7:1 (or slightly different depending on which HG I use)...this seems very boost-friendly. Too boost-friendly...ha ha. (I'd probably want to up it a little...) So, has anyone here used the Phase II heads on a 22T block? If so, what supporting modifications did you do? What other parts did the build require? (custom pistons, etc)
  6. What kind of hybrid combo could I put together using the Phase II EJ25 heads/intake (so I could keep the wiring)? EJ22T bottom end? It would be closed deck... Any other options?
  7. Okay...I've been reading a ton of stuff on here, NASIOC, legacycentral, etc. about hybrid builds. The appeal of keeping the wiring/ECU/parts I already have has made me lean toward that option. So...what hybrid (turbo) options would you guys think would be best - assuming I want to use some of my 2.5 parts? (Feel free to help me learn how the math works - I really don't know... It seems like Subaru engines are like Mr. Potato Head - often, you can just pull a part off one and slap it on another, because physically, they are so similar... What parts should I get from other motors to make a reasonably reliable boosted motor?
  8. That does sound easy.... Maybe I will try to find a low mileage 22T. That would be sweet. Can someone give me a quick rundown of what combination of parts yields a "hybrid" motor? And could I make a turbo hybrid?
  9. I was just going to say that! It's exactly what I want! But seriously...are you selling the old engine?
  10. If you don't mind me asking...what kind of $$ do you have into those parts? I'm looking to put some kind of turbo motor together and your setup looks ridiculous!
  11. Two nights ago, someone else was driving my car (2000 Outback)...water pump went out. They didn't notice the temp rising until the car ceased to run. Now the heads are DESTROYED. The poor can won't even start. Now that I have to go to the expense of pulling the engine, messing with the internals, and replacing expensive parts (on an engine with 200k miles), I'm thinking maybe I should just spend a couple extra bucks and have a boosted motor. And I kinda want a manual transmission, too. What do you guys think the best option is? (I'm not looking for a super fast race car...just a slightly quicker Outback. Maybe 200 WHP?) Should I... - put together a EJ22T? - get a EJ20G with RA tranny? (Same final drive) - rebuild/turbo my SOHC 2.5 Any and all input or suggestions are greatly appreciated. I'm new to this stuff..
  12. The re-wiring and installing new bulbs option seems like a good one. It's inexpensive, too. I've been perusing the web for European projectors for quite a while now. They are super hard to find, and quite expensive when they do surface.
  13. (I've used the search function...perhaps I just didn't use the right terms...I can't find any threads about doing this in a newer car.) I'm interested in swapping out the auto tranny in my 2000 Outback in favor of a 5-speed. Can anyone who's done this give me any insight on how difficult this project is, and any steps that might be overlooked by someone who hasn't done it yet? I don't know how much wiring (speed sensors, warning lights, etc) there is. And I don't know how hard it is to install the tranny-to-interior pieces (pedals, shifter, etc). Anyone have experience? Thanks, guys. - Tyler
  14. I need those on the outback!!!
  15. Boy, what the heck are you doin in the Dalles? I want to come see the car!
  16. Brandon, I love it! I had no idea you were pimping this thing out like that! Dang, dogg! If you want some help, let me know! I'm in your neck of the woods all the time.
  17. Excellent point. My Outback has 27.00" OD tires...and I can barely roll a softball under it. Lol...A lift, in my opinion, is always valuable in helping with ground clearance. Heck, a lift should pay for itself in an offroad vehicle after you stop busting oil pans, radiators, differentials, etc on rocks... I'm not gonna hate on you for not lifting it (heck, I've never lifted any of my Subarus)...but don't hate on anyone that lifts their rig just because they think it's better...because they're probably right. Trust me - a lift is nice when you're off-road. VERY NICE. Plus chicks dig it. Ha haaaa...(but I do it for the offroad capabilities! I swear!)
  18. I know, right? Yeah...it was up to her or my hairy redneck male friends to nurse me...I think I did pretty well...lol And yeah. I jumped like someone pulled the hair on the back of my neck. And this was about 5 seconds after she swabbed it the first time. A few minutes later, blood was everywhere. It was haggard. I have a sweet scar from it...
  19. With the long, low noses out cars are sporting, any help in the form of clearance is pretty sweet...
  20. Here's a couple months ago...don't worry - I didn't keep it too long...ha ha. Before I grew it back... And this is last summer...I smacked asphalt at 45 MPH...ouch. Good thing I had a nurse!
  21. (in awesome Yoda voice) "Yeeesss...very UGLY this new Legacy is..."
  22. This is easily the most hillbilly question I've ever seen on the USMB... ...and I LOVE it. I like the way you think, friend!
