  1. +1 for Spokane. Or somewhere along the coast...
  2. Oh yeah - and.... 27s will require some serious beating/hacking - especially if they're Swampers, which generally run larger than tires of the 'same size' by other manufacturers.
  3. FTW! But seriously...yeah. Most of the sub-forums around here have FAQs stickied to the top. They're very informative. Also, (and you'll hear this a ton) search, search, search, my good man! This forum has been around for quite a while, meaning pretty much everything has already been asked. If you poke around for a bit, you can usually find a bunch of guys who have already asked/answered whatever you need to know.
  4. Looks good! With more traction and ground clearance, you can get in even MORE trouble! w00t
  5. Sounds like a very interesting project. Where are you located?
  6. Looks good! I miss the old-school world. I gotta get back into an EA car! Btw, Concrete is a sweet little town! I pass through when I go climbing in the N. Cascades. Sure is nice out there!
  7. - 2000 Outback Wagon + Summer tires (225/60R16 low resistance), mixed driving: 21 city, 26 highway, as high as 29 when driving conservatively - "hyper-mile" technique + Winter studs (215/65R16 HUGE rolling resistance) mixed conservative driving: 19/25, but as low as 17mpg when I'm "enjoying" the snowy roads - SOHC with 190k - Automatic Transmission - Full synthetic 5w30 - No modifications - No crossbars
  8. Step one: Ask for a complete refund + the cost of the added repairs. That should be enough to replace the engine. Then you can perhaps part out/sell the old motor for a few extra bucks. Step two: Get the final repair work done from a more reliable source. Step three: Enjoy your Subaru for another 250k miles, and forget about this little hiccup.
  9. We never needed Pastrana to have fun in the woods. ha ha. But the dollars his name brought to the game helped. :/ It's still the best motorsport out there, even if it's not big in the USA.
  10. Another Spokanite here. This thread has been brought back from the grave 4 times now. ha ha.
  11. I suppose... (fair enough - you obviously know more about motorsports than I do) But dang. Rally racing is just so darn cool..
  12. Agreed. While I have no personal experience with small claims court, I have a friend who had a similar experience with a mechanic. Rather than go to the hassle of court proceedings, the shop and car owner came to an agreement and the shop took care of the screw-up. Court is a PITA and no sane business owner wants to mess with it.
  13. For sure. If you involve an attorney (even just to scare them), you'll end up paying him a lot (potentially more than the value of the car repairs) to get you a little.
  14. This is really sad news. How can someone go from the COOLEST racing sport EVER, to the most BORING, LAME racing sport ever? This is so surprising to me. NASCAR is evidence that we are devolving as a culture. ha ha. I can't remember where I saw it (might have been a board member), but I like this quote: "dirt is for racing; tarmac is just for getting there."
  15. I would count on the 2.5 being a complete loss. As others have said, 'once overheated, twice shy' is the rule for these motors.
  16. What is your price for the 4" EJ lift (I have a 2000 Outback)? Have you installed an of these yet?
  17. My money is on cylinder wall/block/piston damage or somethin...
  18. It does seem way too good to be true...
  19. That's really cool. I've been dreaming about something like this for a long time. show those guys in the big rigs how an 80s Subaru takes care of winter driving!
  20. How much did you get for $300? shortblock? heads? intake? wiring?
  21. "all my skiing/climbing gear" At least you're a climber. Now we know you're a decent dude.
  22. Do you have any pictures of the body armor/bumpers you've built?
