This forum has been around for quite a while, meaning pretty much everything has already been asked. Step one: Ask for a complete refund + the cost of the added repairs. That should be enough to replace the engine. Then you can perhaps part out/sell the old motor for a few extra bucks. Step two: Get the final repair work done from a more reliable source. Step three: Enjoy your Subaru for another 250k miles, and forget about this little hiccup.

Agreed. While I have no personal experience with small claims court, I have a friend who had a similar experience with a mechanic. Rather than go to the hassle of court proceedings, the shop and car owner came to an agreement and the shop took care of the screw-up. Court is a PITA and no sane business owner wants to mess with it.

For sure. If you involve an attorney (even just to scare them), you'll end up paying him a lot (potentially more than the value of the car repairs) to get you a little.

This is really sad news. How can someone go from the COOLEST racing sport EVER, to the most BORING, LAME racing sport ever? This is so surprising to me. NASCAR is evidence that we are devolving as a culture. ha ha. I would count on the 2.5 being a complete loss. As others have said, 'once overheated, twice shy' is the rule for these motors.
