  1. When it's in all the way, the ring gear teeth are just about touching the case.
  2. Lift the carpet on passenger side near the dash. The ECU is under that big metal plate.
  3. I've built 3 drag racing powerglides. One was in my car that went 9's and another buddy's went mid 8's. They are a nice easy transmission to work on. I don't do much work on Chevy stuff anymore.
  4. I asked them a while back when they posted pics of that car on nasioc. Apparently it's some kind of secret. I have a feeling it's some sort of off the shelf circle track reverse mount starter and bolt on bellhousing for the trans.
  5. Your dealer is charging you full list then. Buy from an online dealer. Or if you really want to go cheap, just buy a used set of heads. I never pay to have heads fixed. Used EJ engines and engine parts are dirt cheap everywhere.
  6. I've seen adapter plates made. But what do people do to bolt the converter to the flexplate with a chevy auto trans? And the starter? It faces the other way.
  7. What sort of trans are you using? PPG sells a rwd center diff for the newer EJ transmissions.
  8. If it's the standard knob, the leather shift boot just pops over a lip on the bottom of the shift knob. Slide it down off the knob and unscrew the knob.
  9. Check the drains for the sunroof. They are plastic tubes that run inside the roof pillars. They get clogged up and water backs up into the car.
  10. The obs springs would fit on forester or legacy outback struts, but the whole assembly would be better.
  11. That looks like a shifter shaft seal leaking. It's very common on 5 speeds for it to leak.
  12. It just unscrews. If it has the leather optional momo knob, unscrew the collar at the bottom and there's an allen head set screw under that.
  13. EJ22 is the way to go to keep a 200+ thousand mile car going. Find one with between 100 and 200 miles for dirt cheap, a few hundred dollars. It just bolts in. No modifications needed. Search for the specifics on here.
  14. Seems like your idle air control valve is gummed up and sticking. Clean it out real good with carb cleaner and see how it is. The 2.5 computer will run the 2.2 engine just fine. It's a MAF engine and compensates. I do tons of these swaps. All the wiring is the same.
  15. You can buy a cheap aftermarket performance exhaust system on ebay for your car. It's about $200. It will be on the loud side.
  16. Head gaskets for the overheating. Probably a fuel pump on the no start. They seize up when they sit for years.
  17. WRX heads and harness is a good option with lots of support. You can buy a tactrix cable and download Rom Raider, it's free and better than the accessport. If you have the EJ22T harness, you could use that. Use 96-99 EJ25 dohc heads and get an apexi power fc for an older jdm wrx. It's almost the same wiring as an EJ22T. You have to change a few pins. There's also other plug in options like link, simtek etc that would let you run the turbo engine with the existing harness.
  18. Do you have emissions inspection? An old obd1 EJ22T isn't going to pass. A stock EJ22T doesn't have any more power than a stock 2.5RS. And less torque. IMO not really worth it. Now if you are just going to use the block, and build a nice engine with a big turbo, that's a different story. Is that the one that was for sale on nasioc? I was thinking about getting it. I thought the price was too high.
  19. I do about 50 or so in the snow. You kind of have to around here. We have lots of hills, if you don't keep your speed up, you don't make it to the top. Very common. It's hard for to find good used links in the junkyards, all of them are bent from moving the cars around.
  20. I've never driven the newer legacy in the snow. All the Imprezas and old legacys I've had and driven want to oversteer and thats fine with me, it suits my driving style. I don't like cars that push. With the imprezas, you can pretty much pretend your colin mcrae in the snow and hang the back end out on turns.
  21. Subarus aren't very picky about alignment like other cars. I align them with a level for camber and strings and a tape measure for toe. I only align them if parts have been replaced. I've never had a problem with tire wear. Snow tires are completely worth it if you get a lot of snow. We just had 2 feet today. I had to got out in it. I was on unplowed roads with over a foot of wet heavy snow and went right threw it, even up a 6% grade. This was in an awd impreza with 4 snows. The only other thing on the road was plow trucks.
  22. Sounds normal to me. Awd subarus oversteer (hang the back end out) in the snow. Countersteer and don't lift.
  23. On a 2000 Impreza 2.2 you don't need to remove the cam gears to pull the heads off.
