  1. Right, primary open loop fueling and base timing is where you would make your adjustments. I've seen problems with meth kits, yes. I just did a version 8 sti swap for somebody and his meth kit was acting up afterwards. The pump would come on randomly when it was not supposed to and the connection at the nozzle kept coming off.
  2. It's not going to be that hard to tune for the meth with ROM raider. In the areas of your fuel map where you are spraying the meth, set the afr leaner than what you actually want so the actual afr with meth is what you want. Watch the 02 sensor or wideband if you have one until your actual afr with meth matches your target afr. Then when you have that squared away you can add a bit of timing in the areas of your timing map where the meth is being sprayed. Really the hardest part will be figuring out at what load the meth kicks in. You'll have to do a bit of logging to figure it out.
  3. The IAC is totally different on phase 2 engines. MAP based engines don't like changes like MAF based do. It's just not worth it. Plus it's now almost 2010. Phase 2 engines aren't hard to come by or expensive anymore, some of them are 10 years old. I've got 2 of them for $100 in the last few months.
  4. Get a few cans of engine degreaser. Head for the local self serve car wash. Spray everything down with degreaser. Let it soak for 5 mins or so. Hit it with the high pressure hose. This will get everything nice and clean and make the leak easy to spot. Keep all the fluids topped off until you find the leak.
  5. 5 mins is not long enough to burn all the crap out of the exhaust. It usually takes me about a half hour of driving. An engine for a 90 legacy is dirt cheap. You can get them for $100-300. If yours is questionable just get another, not worth spending time and money on it. One last thing is I have no problem using aftermarket gaskets on a Phase 1 EJ22. I do it often. Every other EJ engine I work on only gets OEM gaskets.
  6. I wouldn't run it untuned. Any gains you would see are lost when it runs pig rich. What's the point in that? With a small jet and 50/50 you won't hurt anything, but won't gain anything, it might even be slower.
  7. Not hard at all. I've had them in and out a few times. Just wind them up with your tool of choice and pop it in the slot.
  8. I agree you may have a problem with the clutch hydraulics. For an upgrade I like the Exedy stage 1 clutch. I have used it in my WRX that makes a lot more power than stock. FWIW I have towed a 1200 lb trailer with that clutch with no issues.
  9. No function. Just a leftover from the machining process when the heads were made.
  10. All subaru EJ engines bolt to all EJ transmissions. In 99 they added 4 extra bolts. You can swap the 8 bolt and the 4 bolt parts around just leave 4 bolts out, the other 4 line up.
  11. They stick and don't shut all the way. Then when you are driving they pop open. It's common. Just give it a good long spray of WD40 and open and close it a few times. This usually fixes it.
  12. You're welcome to come over with a stopwatch. It's not hard at all after the first few times.
  13. Spark plugs take a half hour if you have never done them before. 10 mins if you have. Take out the battery, washer jar and air filter box to get access to them. All of those come out with just a few bolts. If your mechanic has been doing good with your 93 legacy, he will be fine with the WRX, it's not much more complicated really.
  14. Subsitutes have been found for most of the parts. A few things like winshields are being reproduced now. The engines are very reliable once you get it all sorted out. A lot of the 360s have sat around for years and need to be gone over. I haven't even opened the engine cover of mine except to add oil for the last year or so.
  15. The ff1 in the junkyard here in PA is still there. Some parts are left. The shortblock was still there and some other things.
  16. I enjoy working on 360s, EA81 and prior, and EJ. I prefer not to mess with EA82, SVX and XT6, but will for enough money.
  17. 99 Legacy is Phase 2 for the 2.2 and Phase 1 for the 2.5 99 Impreza is Phase 2 for 2.5 also but I'm drawing a blank on the 2.2? I think those were still phase 1?
  18. I wouldn't. Sorry SVX guys, but they are trouble prone and the market to resell them is not good.
  19. Hyd lifter subies are very loud when you take them apart and put them back together. It goes away eventually as long as you didn't clog any oil passages with silicone and put everything back together correctly.
  20. I think the 91 legacy had the smaller bolt pattern in the rear tophats so impreza coilovers won't fit.
  21. It's 3 different colors right now, not much to look at. I'm not keeping it anyway. I'm going to sell it in a week or two once I get all the issues sorted out and paint it.
  22. It might be the same on some other 4 wire coilpack phase 2 engines also. If anyone has a 99 up phase 2 and can check it would help me. I checked a forester and it had different color wires. I bought this RS non-running and the connecter for the coilpack was cut off.
