Hey John (Jibs) Got your letter yesterday, thanks. BUT>>> The 4/3 kit wil not work with Air Cond, except on turbo EA81 where the AC compressor is centered on engine, without the idler pulley for v-belt. I need to talk with you also on another note. Unless you're going bigger than 27" tires, the 3/3 will work fine, with very minimal fender trim on front and rear lower edges. r/PK

Most BRATs do not have power steering. I think I have only heard of 2 or 3 Brats here ever having PS.

The key/pulley problem is somewhat common. 150k miles is still young. I was able to MIG weld the crankshaft - essentially re-building the key slot. The MIG doesn't get the shaft too hot at all... then a little (lot) of filing to clean it up - new key and new pulley (used) and works great. You can change the front crank seal while your at it. good luck. r/PK

I just replaced the clutch on my 82 Brat two months ago. It was the easiest job ever with great advice form the USMB peoples. Removed the battery, radiator, and anti-pitch rod. (If you have air cond, it will be more difficult to get the evaporator? out too. - to have room to slide motor forward into front grill) Unbolted the exhausts, dropped them a bit and rested on a wood block. Removed two engine mount bolts, removed starter. Removed the other 3 transmission bolts (4th came out with starter). Used floor jack to jack up motor . Used tie-down to pull motor to front of engine bay and hold it. The motor pulls away from the transmission (wiggle), and rests on the floor jack being held forward with the tie down. I think I may have also had to free up fuel lines etc for more slack. You can use the engine hoist in same manner. If you remove fuel lines, just pull motor out for easiest access, but not really necessary. Then remove pressure plate bolts and assembly comes out. The motor turns pretty easy to get to all bolts. Flywheel can unbolt for re-surfacing. It is tight, but enough room to wrench and get everything out and back in. Throw-out bearing assembly, and clutch lever too. It all went back in using the plastic clutch alignment tool too. What a sweet deal - about 6-8 hour total for me. Thanks USMB. r/PK

WTF??? FedEx assured me it would go straight through without Canadian Post inspection. I have never lost any kits - ever, so I'm sure they will find 40 pounds of steel. Actually once, FedEx lost a PC I sent for 3 days, then it showed up just fine. Still I am pissed, as Matt says, $70+ shipping should be worthy of attention. Sorry Matt, give it a few more days. They only guarantee delivery, not delivery date. It IS insured, however, I am not smiling. v/r Patrick.

I'm here, but I had a fallout with my ISP - seems they were blocking port 25 and denying it or just ignorant. Three days later.... !@#%^$! I'm bahk.

Metric version = 390mm. It will be stamped on the wheel - avoid them. (diameter about 15.3"). They are relics with tires near extinction. r/PK

A neighbor of mine had this exact paint job on a Toyota Stout, back in the early 1970s ... during the 1st gas crunch. It was funny in that the good-old-boys were angry at the Japanese mini-truck invasion beginning (1968-ish), however, they couldn't get mad at him because it was so darn patriotic looking, not to mention he was already a Viet Nam Vet.

yep, wrong PP - exchanged - all good now. xlnt. thanks all. -
Talked with AK Air Cargo. They were very nice, but in the end, either the shipper or receiving shipped must be a "KNOWN SHIPPER COMPANY" to Alaska Air. Since they carry passengers as well as cargo on same plane, the Known Shipper status is required. The company needs to have a background security check and history. I do not qualify. (Must be all those kits I shipped to Cuba..., jk) hmm even though I have over two years history with FedEx and UPS, she said no, has to be with AK Air. Anyway, I tried- their rate is now a flat 0.89/lb for regular cargo. She quoted me $128.38 for the three kits at 140 lbs total from San Diego to Anchorage. just FYI for comparison. I will call FedEx to see if they fly partway or bypass Canadian pervue... but for the extra $7, USPS overnight might be the best. r/PK

Hi guys, Shipping to Chugiak, AK options: Kit price plus additional $10/each - US Mail Parcel Post (with possible Canadian Post inspections/invasion) 7-14 days Kit price plus additional $55/each - FedEx Ground (should be fairly secure) 5-7 days Kit price plus additional $62/each - USPS Overnight - actually 2 nights (best security potential) Well, everything is a bit more pricey to AK (except probably gas - San Diego gas is now $2.20/gal reg, WTF?) Email me with your thoughts. Ready in a couple weeks. r/PK

Engine came out forward just great. Got clutch and pressure plate out fine. Its the 7.87" disc Bought new clutch kit with pressure plate throwout, etc. (Kragen). Clutch is correct. HOWEVER, the pressure plate is wrong??? The original's surface sticks out past its mount toward the flywheel, but the new one does not - it is flush with the mount. So it wont reach the flywheel surface. I returned it and ordered different part number, same application from PepBros. Is there more than one type pressure plate? I'm thinking maybe they sold me a 1600 kit? Is there difference between 1600 and 1800 kits? -

I like it... and the bandana. But then I have this going on some t-shirts soon (ala John : I've been on and off with this and the kangaroo for quite awhile. Gonna do both I 'spect, cause my kids love the pirate stuff. r/PK -
I dont think A/C matters on EA82s. Certainly the kit will work in all other aspects, either 5 speed or auto too. r/PK

Again, many thanks gentlemen! The real biotch is, I sold the Brat over the weekend, and I am supposed to drive it out to the buyer Friday. I just emailed him the news. (maybe it is destiny - and I am really supposed to keep my Brat, sit inside and apologize for attempting to sell her, and embrace the moment with a group dash hug) -

Thanks guys. one more clarification: so then I drain radiator, remove radiator/hoses, and pull motor forward enough to replace it that way? p.s. I dont stop for beer, I wear a two-can hat (jk) -
Updated - Thanks for the info on pulling the engine forward vice removing trans. It worked like a charm. Once I got the correct clutch kit, it all went in just sweet! (6 hours and 2 beers) another kudo to the wealth of info on USMB ! r/PK ------------------------------------------------------------ Hello all. Need to know how long it takes to replace clutch in 82 Brat. I presume removing front axles, rear driveshaft , remove trans, replace clutch , pressure plate, bearing, and re-install. Suggestions, tips, time estimate? thanks in advance, PK

We are refining the Legacy lift to allow for bigger tires. Current strut tower extension tops only allow an extra 1/2 - 3/4 inch tire diameter increase. soon - really - soon. r/PK
