    RallyCross woes.

Quick question on lift. They won't let you race with a lift kit? any and all classes? open class? What's the difference between, say Zap's OBS with forester struts (different length?), and another Sube with stock struts, but with the addition of a spacer between the strut top and body(to get that extra 1-2 inches)? So, for my SS, I am thinking of just using strut extensions all around, NO body lift. If they allow coil overs, and different struts, would the rules care if you put a spacer between the original strut and body, as typical in lift kits? thanks, PK p.s. Do I need to join SCCA to get a rule book, or is it avail online?
  2. Hiya Dave, Glad the ole girl is stompin well. She really makes use of that EA81 motor - strong runner huh? What size tires did you put on the 14s? You should get better gas mileage too now; gonna love that at $3/gal. Bash away! Hey, on another note, I recently got a Honda NX650 thumper dual sport - reminds me of the Dakar. Gonna sell the Pacific Coast -its just too civilized for me.
  3. ...so you're thinking "what's PK doing? he needs to get back in the shop to weld and drill." Breaktime at work (Maybe use Junkie's font?): OZ4
  4. This started as fun, kind of a parody of "West Coast Choppers". It just fit with West Coast Subarus, and it looked very cool. I don't think HD riders would approve, but all in fun. I agree with Zap. I think it should be in the Washington outline too, and keep the WEST COAST SUBARU SHOW as title. We'll get it into Calif someday to complete the coastal claim. ...of course, when it comes to Calif, we will have to use ultra-tall (yard) beer steins to fit the entire state on them -
  5. okay then , official entry, though no outline of WA state. ***It might look good in Subaru blue and gold too, and thus avoid being too similar. OZ2
  6. Just for some fun, forgive me Jesse James: OZ1 You have to admit this would look good on a t-shirt!
  7. xlnt - lose the "VII" and add the show location and date.
  8. I'm Bahk, yes bahk... just like my good buddy Ahnold. Will play catch up with everyone.
  9. I am what the Commadant calls a "Civilian Marine". I work for the Corps as Civil Service. While I do not deploy, it is understood that it is a possibility, though not likely in my series (MOS). However, under the upcoming NSPS system, it broadens the tasks and possibilities. This week I am at Naval Postgraduate School learning how to fund Ops and sustaining support. After this week, I can't wait to get back to the welder - whew! I'll get back to you Pyro. I do need to get the Leg lifted for an April run. Glamis!! PK
  10. To all OZified lift kit inquiries, Sorry, but the Marines sent me to training (no choice) on kinda short notice. I am out of town/pocket for the week. I can check my emails from Sunday 07 Mar and forward only, until I return Sat 12 Mar. I know I missed some earlier emails, which I will answer then. Rest assured that I am doing my part (as directed) to keep America's war machine in motion. Oorah. {dang, that's sounds macho} sincerely, Patrick PK. p.s. Devan F and John L - your kits are en route already.
  11. It'll work itself off with 5-10 startups and normal driving. The sensors freak when wheels turn at significant different speeds. It is common for the ABS light to come on in a 2WD car after a dynamic smog check where it spins the drive wheels only. Your rockin' and rollin' probably caused it. Good luck. r/ PK
  12. I've owned 4 British cars, they are engineering marvels - two noteworthy items: Lucas Electric - better known as Star Wars electrical systems - often trouble. Jags use GM TH400 transmission. Search on Chevy V-8 conversion for Jaguar - many a happy camper with this common dependable setup. Oh, just saw Humble's post - what he said, LOL. Good luck, r/PK.
  13. Thanks John, To All, I was caught with several orders all-at-once this last month, and am sorting it out - though I've missed a few (okay, several) emails I know and apologize. The 4" EA82s are actually being the choice now over the 3". They work great. Been making them for about 3-4 months (jeesh, is it February?). I have to fill a few back orders, but I have just ordered more materials for another 10 kits, so they are in work. I indicated earlier to a few people that I was thinking about not making 4" for the EA81s as they require more finess in fitting (fender hammering for big tires and some shift linkage boot hole/rod bend sometimes). But they are solid and proper, and actually, most people still want them over the 3" and will deal with the minimal but often necessary extra work involved. So, those are still going fine. Meantime, I am busy at it again. I have to build in quantities to keep it fun (yeah right, lol). John can build them one-off, by special request, and when you need it yesterday. We're buds. And it IS a free market. Thanks to all. Sincerely, Patrick 'PK'
  14. On mine the pressure plates were different. On the bad new one, it aligned right up and bolted in no problem - also with no pressure on the pressure plate fingers/springs (preload). When you bolt the correct pressure plate in with the clutch aligned, they should meet with maybe 3/8 to 1/2 inch (more?) still to bolt in rotation until it pulls the pressure plate housing against the flywheel - effectively loading the pressure plate against the clutch against the flywheel. When putting the engine to trans, I did not encounter any resistance - it mated right up. If the throwout bearing was incorrect - meaning enough to disable the clutch as sympton, it would press againt the pressure plate with resistance when mating the engine and trans. If the clutch pedal movement feels normal, then I would still bet on the pressure plate or flywheel being incorrect. Best luck, PK
  15. You probably have the wrong clutch set. For my 1982 Brat, I bought one from Kragen (clutch, presss plate, TO bearing all in kit), and when I put it in, the pressure plate didn't even have pressure bolting in. It's supposed to be tight with the clutch disc against the flywheel... but the clutch just hung loose in between the PP and FW (hard to explain, sorry). Anyway, took back the whole kit and got another from pep boys, and the pressure plate was different (the surface plate was more offset outward), and it was TIGHT when bolting down (spring pressure) against the clutch. Take your original PP and compare to the new one, and see the different offset of the plate surface with respect to its mount housing. You will see. Good luck. R/ PK
  16. If you're looking for an inch or two, John (Mudrat79) does a trick with moving the strut coil perch up. Gives ground clearence and room for larger tires. r/PK
  17. 90% sure - Honda CR-Vs (+ Elements, Pilots) have ball seat lugnuts in 12mm
  18. Les, I got your email. I need to call you and talk. R/ Patrick.
  19. This should be an FAQ. The EJ D/R trans low range ratio is 1.196:1 , call it 1.2:1 or about 20% reduction... the same as the RX trans. For comparison, the EA82 5 speed D/R (non-RX) has a 1.52:1 ratio. Typical Jeeps, Toyotas, etc have ~2.5:1, and the Jeep Rubicon has 4:1 While I'm confident the EJ D/R would bolt in, it may be physically different in length (requiring different driveshaft length? - dunno) For US market, it will be an expensive 20%.

    Lift kits

Yeah, I think I'm gonna throw in the towel on the Legacy lift. As Zap says, to fit larger tires (unless 24" is you cup of tea), you have to switch out the struts all around ~ $300+ . Then the lift kit would be ~$450. And then, the strut extensions for the years 1990-1991 are different than 1992-1994 are different than the 1995+ are - egads. Did they change again in 2000? For now, I need to focus on the EA81s and EA82s for a bunch. Regards/ PK
  22. This was looked into heavily both here and in OZ. Problem was cost (~ $150/set of 4 adapters and the thickness (offset) of the adapter was 1.5". Peugeots have about 1.2" less offset than stock Subes. So adapters with stock Subie 5-lugs would stick out maybe 1/4" more than Peugeots. Peugeots can be had for $100-$150 /set of 4. For those that want adapters for a nicer selection of wheels, there may be a company that will do them, but the one I inquired said the transistion from 4x140mm to 5x100 was too great. Try drawing the adapter on paper for those two dimensions and you will see its a difficult fit. The best workable fit with good selection I found was 4x140mm to 4x114.3. Certain model year Honda Accord wheels were 4x114.3mm with nice ~50mm offset. But these are 4-lug. Many people would want 5-lug, and they just need to approach the adapter company with their request. Just my $0.02 r/ PK
