Could be an option for us that would like to get it up out of the way. Just wondering if the exhaust on my GL carries enough heat even for that. Then how much do they cost..... Actually not too bad. Yeah I'm at about the same elevation. 12 to 14 inches in most places. Sadly my Subaru did not get to lay first tracks in my driveway. That task fell to my Focus. (which blasted through no problem) But the Sube got fresh tracks everywhere else though.

You make a good point there. That is something I've thought of. Only problem is I can't think of lifting mine for a good long time. (daily driver payments and just keeping the sube rolling take up that cash) And unless I cram the cat up into the body, I'll be losing some much needed clearance. It hangs down pretty low on mine. I already have problems with the exhaust hitting the driveshaft grease fittings over some terrain and under acceleration. (Thats nice and loud) Broke most of the stock mounts long ago. I'm gonna be doing a good overhaul of the exhaust here soon. Make some new mounts (my exhaust is held up with metal strapping bolted across the car), move some stuff around for clearance. I'll be looking back into the skidplate idea to see if I can just leave the cat.

Only reason I don't run one is they keep getting destroyed off-roading. (once you cave them in the only thing the guts are good for is clogging your muffler) And as that is the primary use of my GL, it makes sense to quit putting new ones on. I have a brand new one sitting on the bench awaiting an install right now. It will come back off once DEQ gives me my new tags. I'd love to keep it clean, but a new cat every other time I drive the car gets old. (I'm not gentle on it)

I was. I have tracks all over the property at this point. Too many cookies has left me with alot of lawn and driveway I'm gonna have to smooth in the spring though. Needed to do that anyway. Then no more fun.

I ripped my system off behind the cat (and it was a "gutless" cat) on the trails and drove it home for about 20 or so miles through two little quiet towns with very strict officers. Lucky I didn't get a ticket but seems to have done no harm. Backfired alot though..... loud. hehe And that is a sweet little hatch.

Everyone's pretty cool and helpful here. And I got basicly booted from NASIOC for posting a pick of my wagon with an old semi exhaust stack under it with the caption "just say no to fartcans" they took offense. I was just kidding. So this is my understanding home now.

Well we got sorta dumped on over the weekend (only about a foot). I was down in town so I missed the dumping but when I got home today I decided to brush off the Subie and fire it up for some laps around the property and cookies in the driveway.

Hmmm... looking at those shields one could proly fab up a couple from an old (small) plastic bucket or one of those nursery pots...... I have some glare on my wagon as well and a stack of diff sized pots out back. Why didn't I think of that before! Thanks for the link Subarutex.

hehe. Anything can work as long as you are willing to put in the time/money. I say if you have the desire go for it. I'm sure 4" lifts on compact japanese family cars was thought to be a total and impossible waste at one point. Now ya see them all over and they do well. Of course like was said hydro cylinders with air may not work the best but if you can get it to work then thumbs up to you.

It's funny though. Both of their websites look almost identical, even the forums. I'm thinking they are with the same publisher. Or they just happened to get the same guy to build the sites.

What edrach said. And To get into the through the woods stage rallies you would have to have a cage. Even for the "stock" classes. (rally tires and other safety equipment would be needed as well.) Entry fees can be quite a bit and You would need the right license for it. RallyCross is tons of fun and can be done pretty cheap as long as you have a good helmet (most times they have loaners on hand as well) and a sound vehicle. Plus it gives you a chance to see if you like it enough to spend all the $$$ on stage rallies. But I'm thinking 99% of the people who try it get hopelessly hooked, I know I did.

I just got an issue in the mail. (I have nothing against any wheelin rig, I just choose Subaru) I might see if I can come up with some good pics of my stock Sube for them. They even have stock rigs in their readers rides section if it's a good action shot. (stock cherokee, about 2 feet of air as an example) I'm sure the novelty of a stock Sube up on three wheels all "flexed" could possibly get a chance. Maybe not. Could be fun to try. Oops. I'm looking at the wrong mag. I have 4Wheel & Off Road. *smacks self*

Been seing other reports of hangover runs from Goat and Wildcat. All pretty much the same. a few feet of snow but the roads/trails were packed in from all the rigs. So as long as you stayed on the tracks you were fine. But I've seen pics of guys that let a tire go of into the soft stuff. Then you see an entire 36in tire disappear.

Good to hear it wasn't as bad as I thought over there. With the east winds though I kinda figured that Goat would block most of it if ya didn't go up too high. I need more action shots too. Wanna get some good hillclimb vids and such as well. I tend to get alot of "still" shots of the Sube parked in odd places but none of it on the move.

I have a sheet of aluminum that is about the same thickness as a roadsign that I used to make a plate on my Focus for RallyCross. Not gonna protect against anything nasty but works good as a deflector and to keep the badly placed oil filter unharmed. So yeah, as a total bashguard you need more but for mild deflection I would think it would be great. If you made the frame you could possibly slide over an obstacle with it slowly. But I would be afraid of it tearing through over rocks. The factory Sube plates are steel, and thicker. (at least on my old GL it is) I wonder if doubling up a couple signs with an epoxy between them would prove strong?...
