  1. from my experience most subaru headgaskets leak externally....so if you can i would get the car on a lift and take a peek around...if you cant do that take a look at the back of the heads were they attach to the block moreso at the corners....see any oil or coolant? i am assuming you did a complete coolant flush when you replaced the thermostat? air in the system? there is tons of info on here....do a search and you are bound to find something that is helpful......oh! and welcome to the board...
  2. well its going on 2 years that i have had my 96 legacy.....ive replaced damn near everything except the engine and rear diff (which both still work considerably well)....at 195,000 i guess you can expect a few things to wear out.......anyways i got the privalege to obtain a 2002 Subaru Impreza WRX yesterday and i absolutely love it!.....boost is addictive! its got so much more pep than my old EJ22...although it is a cop magnet.....but yeah just thought i would share.....(i tried to upload a pic here....but nonetheless just take a look at my Photos)or avitar.......
  3. i would hit up nasioc.com for tuning the stock turbo on the wrx.....alot of smart people on there and so much information.....
  4. not that i have used it....but i have heard some very positive things about the new ICE by turtle wax.....
  5. here you go....i came across this a few months back..... http://ken-gilbert.com/impreza-manuals ....
  6. i had a little prob. like this....prob. not as significant as yours though.... my rust hole was about 1 foot long and extended under the panel to the pinch weld....by buddy ended up cutting out all the rust...spraying it with a rust repellant and used some mesh screen with bondo and body filler and primer and all that good stuff....so far it has held rather well.....i cant see the damage but i believe the rocker panels are designed with some sort of safety factor in a collision....(i was reading something on here about that a few months ago).......
  7. or if you have compressed shop air you could just unhook the line for it and give her a squeeze up there.....works for me.....
  8. i had a similar problem a while back....make sure the connectors are on the correct fuel injector....
  9. if i had this situation happen to me i would find the closest junkyard to just pick up a new hazard light switch(it sounds like something sticky like juice got inside of there and maybe messed with the contacts or something)anyways they are only a few bucks at a junkyard and even if it doesnt fix the problem your switch wont be sticking anymore and you wont have to pry it back out.....just my suggestion.....
  10. i have a 96 legacy and i know mine doesnt have a cabin filter....acutally i dont believe subaru started using cabin filters until like 04 or 05......
  11. what i did to clean my IAC on my 96 2.2 was just undo the hose, start the car (you will have to keep your finger on the throttle a little bit to keep the car from stalling) and spray a little at a time into the hose for the IAC.....(i believe grossgary gave me some pretty detailed instructions on how to do it.....check this out..... http://www.ultimatesubaru.org/forum/showthread.php?t=85247
  12. i believe there are connectors under the dash you have to probe or plug in to read the flash codes.....do some searching on this forum i know ive seen the info here before.....
  13. check your spark problem out first and find out why you dont have spark.....and once you have the car running again i would clear the codes and see which of them comes back.....(since you said the CEL has been on for a while and "some of them could be from the past")......
  14. the only thing i have to say on this subject is....i have had pretty good results with seafoam.....after i ran about 1/2 can through with my engine oil....i think my engine idles and runs smoother than ever......than again 6 owners and almost 200,000 miles i dont think my car ever had a service like that.....just my opinion....
  15. from what i have seen these cars are notorious for chewing up wheel bearings....if you buy it used def. make sure the bearings are ok or have been replaced.....
  16. try cleaning the IAC valve......how many miles on the car?
  17. WOW! 19 subarus and 3 owners......they seem like some serious enthusiests.....
  18. what we do at work is drill a few small holes on the loose shield and put some screws in there just until you see the shield start to pull away from the exhaust pipe.....just enough to keep some good tension on it.....
  19. johnceggleston- thanks for all the help man the seats bolted right in and the recievers worked also.....they look great.......
  20. thanks...i will def. make sure they work.......apprecaite the help man....
  21. really..seat belt recievers have to be swapped?..i already bought the seat belts out of the donor car (97 GT) and they buckle in fine with the 96 recievers.........thanks though...in all luck i will get it done tomarrow......
  22. ok well my interior is getting pretty rugged and i have been thinking for a while about doing an interior swap......luckily i was at the salvage yard a few months ago and found an excellant looking black interior in a 97 Legacy GT....my question is.....will the front and rear seats and seatbacks(in the rear)out of a 1997 Legacy GT sedan bolt right in to the stock bolt holes for my 1996 Legacy L sedan?.....i have heard from numerous sources they will but im just trying to confirm before i go and purchase them tomarrow.....
  23. ive bought a few things off of http://www.autopartswarehouse.com and never had any problems... but of course there are subaru only sites like.... http://www.1stsubaruparts.com or http://www.subarupartsforyou.com ......
