  1. radiator is pretty simple to replace.....drain system....pop off brackets.....hoses.....fans.......it kind off just pulls right out.......it shouldnt take more than maybe and hour or two...while your doing it you might want to consider also changing the upper and lower rad. hoses......it def. cant hurt to change the gear oil at this point.....besides you will get to see how much metal from your gears is on your drain plug.......
  2. -QUOTE-now i gotta find out why my 92 doesn't like 4th gear, almost feels like it's kicking it out of gear..to the point where i gotta hold it in gear.of course it doesn't do it with a load on trans, only if i let off gas..(gotta get under it one of these days and check trans mounts)-QUOTE- subie 94- my 96 had the exact same problem with 4th gear a few miles back....i checked all my mounts and they were all ok.....but eventually when i tried to hold it in gear it would grind its ars off...and eventually i lost 4th gear.....plus i needed a new viscous coupler....i ended up just replacing the trans with one with like 93,000 miles on it.....than again the origional held up good until like 190,000 miles.......anyways just thought i would share.....
  3. automatic or manual trans?....sometimes it is possible for it to "repair" its self (mostly in automatics i believe) with repeated flushes or changes of the transmission fluid and using an additive/conditioner do a search on the forum or take a look down at the bottom for the "related threads" on this topic....there is tons of info out there..... by the way welcome to the forum....
  4. wow....very informative..... thanks for the great write-up!
  5. it is def. possible to rig the fog lights to come on with the high beams...but you could just get a set of aux. driving lights...(i dont know what the laws are were you are but here in PA if your fog lights dont go off when you switch on the high beams you will fail state inspection).......if i were you i would just get a set of driving lights if you want more light with you high beams on...... .......as for the reverse switch....what exactly do you mean its intermittent? the reverse lights are only working part of the time? nonetheless its a grey connector kind of next to the A/C reciever drier the connector is mounted on the bellhousing......to test to see if it truely is the switch....just unplug the connector and use a paper clip to jump the contacts and walk to the back of the car and see if the reverse lights are on....also check the wiring...could be a loose wire or something.....its fairly simple to change.....i think its a single 22mm it screws right in the side of the trans....(after you find the grey connector just follow the wire into the trans tunnel).
  6. if your trying to find the same tread pattern and everything i would give a call or log onto http://www.tirerack.com ...
  7. maybe the little spring that connects the shift rod to the stay rod broke and its hitting something.....i would def. first do a thorough visual inspection of the whole car......
  8. does anything happen to the noise when you are idleing and you push in the clutch pedal?
  9. +1^ extremely simple to replace i think its either a 10mm or a 12mm bolt and connector and wola.....how many miles are on the car?
  10. i was just reading something about this today on http://www.comcast.net i just started coasting today alot also.....its amazing how your speed picks up too......
  11. i see a little black piece of tape on the instrument cluster...which light was he trying to cover up?....besides that it looks pretty good...i have always liked those hoods.....
  12. what we do to fix loose heatshilds were i work is just take a few self tapping screws and screw them right into the heat shield.....just enough threads until it hits the exhaust pipe and you will see the heat shield kind of backing away...give it a few more turns for some tension and wola.....
  13. not that im any good on diag. but i will do the best i can here..(im sure others will chime in later) is there any CEL on?.... automatic or manual trans?.... have you tried cleaning your IAC valve?
  14. +1^ my buddy used JB weld on his for a couple days and it held fine until he got the money to replace the radiator.....
  15. i use regular 10w30 in my 96 legacy ej22 and havent really had any problems yet....i bought the car with about 173,000 and now i have 194,000.....
  16. +1^......also if you have next to no gas it gives plenty of room (and time for that matter) for moisture to gather on the inside of the tank.....i have stored my old saturn for months at a time and have always kept the tank topped off.......but thats me...
  17. not sure how it is on this year...but my 96 legacy had kind of a similar problem....it turned out i was missing my sub-fan relay #2 i believe....in my car 3 of the fan realys are under the hood fuse box and one is in the junction box under the dash.....so i would make sure you have all the realys in if you havent done that...
  18. subaru dealerships, at least the one i work at considers them maintaince items and they should be replaced i believe every 30,000 miles.....
  19. +1^...i also love the early Legacy Sport Sedans...... .....rare....but, is it a 5 spd?....
