97 legacy L sedan radiator.
EVOthis replied to greenleg88's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXprob. not the best method but sometimes you can redline it in neutral for a second to get the air out....i did the radiator on saturday in my 96 Legacy and for the life of me couldnt get all the air bubbles out...no matter what i did the bottom hose was still cold...so after running out of options i remember someone telling me you could just gas it a few times....worked for me....

VEntilation Problem?
alrighty...i have a 96 legacy sedan ej22....i turned off my car 2 days ago with the ventilation setting on passangers face.....i turned on my car today and when ever i press any of the other buttons on the control head like defrost or floor or anything the ventilation doesnt change...i have run into this problem before and it turned out that the mode door motor was fried so i replaced it and it worked great...that was about 20,000 miles ago....the AC button works and so does the fan speed...but nothing when i press the vent door buttons (defrost, floor...etc...).....any ideas on what to check here....im used to hearing the mode door motor when i press the buttons but i dont hear anything now.....can the motor fail that quick....ill be poking around a little bit today with it....but i just wanted to see if anyone had any suggestions on what to check....wiring...etc....thanks for your time....

P0519 questions
EVOthis replied to yohy's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXif you can take a look at the neutral switch on the scan tool....you can just move the shifter back and forth not putting it in gear and if the switch is truely bad than it will think it is in gear when it really is not..... (it will say on the scan tool if the car is in gear or not)...at least on the selectmonitor it does...sorry i cant explain it better...

P0519 questions
EVOthis replied to yohy's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXif you have access to a scantool expecially the selectmonitor (im sure others will work to) go to the data display and you can look at tons of parameters...the way i found it was i went down to like idle control system and i jiggled the shifter without putting into gear and putting it into gear and you can see the IAC counts go crazy.....but yes it was a 519 code

Rear Disc rubs backing plate '98 OBW
EVOthis replied to hankosolder2's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXsometimes the ring/lip around the center of the rear rotors were the e-brake shoes go in rubs on the backing plate there....we see it alot when we resurface rotors....you can usually only hear it at slow speeds while turning.....nonetheless if you have a die grinder you can try and grind some of the lip off of the new rotor and see if it helps.....sometimes some road grime/ rust or whatever gets behind the backing plate and pushes out....

Where can I buy new carpet for 90 Legacy?
EVOthis replied to kimokalihi's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXi would go to walmart....in the car section and they have automotive carpet for a very fair price (i at one point was going to do this but decided against it)...its prob. cheaper than buying it precut....so a little extra work..but yeah just my suggestion....

So i finally broke down and bought.....
EVOthis replied to EVOthis's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXlol...thanks reveen.....i drove another WRX at work yesterday and it only had 4k miles more than mine and first gear already seemed a little quirky.....than again the 1st 5spd trans in my 96 lasted 6 owners, being incredibly beat (for how much you can beat a 135 HP car), and almost 190,000 miles.....

Year long broken subaru
EVOthis replied to mtdew90's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXprob. not the best thing to do...but i just rammed a monster pry bar in one of the notches in the center of the pulley and muscled the bolt out.....i had success using a strap wrench holding the crank pulley to break that bolt loose.....i believe the left side of the engine is usually the drivers side (obviously depends on how you look at it though)....

I need help with a 97 outback
EVOthis replied to mdjdc's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXobviously besides the headgaskets.....i would def. thoroughly check out the transmission/center diff clutch packs......and the wheel bearings......than again at that mileage and sitting that long it might also need some of the "tune up" items.....so i would say if your looking for a good project pick her up.......the price is def. right.....

So i finally broke down and bought.....
EVOthis replied to EVOthis's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXgood stuff durania!... cougar-i was also kind of confused with everything (this is my first turbo car and i only have a limited amount of knowledge about the forced induction system but it seemed like it was built rather well......it has a 2.5 sti block with eagle rods and arias pistons.....the 2.0 WRX heads ported and polished with a three angle valve job....and the whole engine resealed and the list goes on and on....and he has the reciepts and everything to back it up....but i do hear what your sayin....not to mention i have 3 points on my license here in PA and my next ticket means i loose my job and my license......so im def. holding back the cars true power.... oh also is the 5 speed used in the 02 wrx the same 5 speed that is used in the legacy.....i was told it was only meant to hold like 140 HP? Sounds accurate......just trying to confirm....
