  1. that is awesome bluestone..i read part of the artilce..do you know if that thing was even street legal? would be nice for today with almost $4 gas prices
  2. usually when it clicks and doesnt start or crank you could have a dead spot in the starter...keep in mind that im trying to help you on solely what you post here so i could very well be wrong......
  3. along with the... water pump timing belt head gaskets clutch kit (with new clips for the throwout bearing and a new pilot bearing) i would do...... cam seals cam cap orings front and rear main crank seals reseal the oil pump valve cover gaskets reseal oil pan new tensioner and timing belt idlers reseal or purchase metal updated seperator plate
  4. here we are....i had the same problem on my 96 legacy manual trans though.....heres the thread on it...... http://www.ultimatesubaru.org/forum/showthread.php?t=83952
  5. so the car doesnt crank at all?....do you hear a click or anything when you turn key?......
  6. first check the obvious.......spark, fuel and air.......ive ran across situations were it could be a couple of things.........fuel pump, cam sensor, ignitor, crank sensor, even a loose wire.....etc.......when it doesnt start does it crank at all? how many miles on the car? what kind of engine?
  7. i did all my speakers last year in my 96 legacy......the front door speakers are 10xs easier to do than the rears which are located in the deck lid.........i had a heck of a time trying to get the deck lid cover off in one piece....than after i did get it off the kid who had it before me i believe retrofitted 6x9s in there....if i were you if you dont have that much time i would replace the front.......i do def. notice a sound difference with my new speakers.......if your looking at a specific brand may i recommend sony.....every one else i talk to says sony is junk but i have never had a single problem....... 8 out of the 14 speakers in my legacy are sony and it sounds amazing.......
  8. thats really cool subaru 360....was it the first subaru in the US?....i was reading something the other day about subaru being formed in like 1954 but they didnt say what year they brought the first subaru into the states.....
  9. that is nuts.....what is the top speed like 60mph.. still kind of a cute car though....
  10. Nice...hopefully i will be as lucky...today actually i just rolled over to 192,000 on my 96 legacy....you said it man "all thanks to the EJ22"......
  11. im sure its possible that it is stretched......if you have done the t-belt on the ej22 i dont think the ej18 is all that much different if at all.....that is alot of miles......do you have any history on the car in terms of engine work?
  12. yeah i never got a close up look at one except at the philly auto show and even then there were way to many people around to get a good look......
  13. http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/Subaru-360_W0QQitemZ190219838354QQcmdZViewItem?hash=item190219838354&
  14. perfect example....my o2 sensor got ripped off my 96 legacy (long story) so i just soldered it back in place and it lasted for about another year and than i started getting a CEL with o2 sensor code.....chances are it was the original so i wasnt to hesitant about spending the $125 from subaru for a direct fit one......
  15. also did you open the little bleeder on the top of the radiator? or burp the system properly....yes i would do a combustion leak test on it to see if you have exhaust gas getting into your coolant......
  16. the entire evap system helps remove vapors in fuel system...i believe the control/purge valve opens and closes the system as necessacary....there is a chance i am slightly wrong though.......
  17. my aunt has a 89 mustang with the 4 cyl and the same thing is happening (coolant surges from the overflow with the engine running)....i believe her HG has ruptered although she is not burning hardly any coolant......anyways when it comes to cooling system/ overheating problems i have heard of people starting off with the least expensive repair and working there way up until it is fixed (sounds like a shoddy mechanic to me, but also a good idea)...... coolant temp sensor? i am assuming you replace the Radiator cap when you replaced the radiator? which engine is it? Do you notice any external coolant leakage around the cylinder heads? did the cooling system operate correctly before you installed the parts?
  18. edrach- i realize that... im just wondering what kind of subi you did it on....i was thinking that there may be extra steps i may not know of if it is a different model or year subi.....ive only ever done the clutch on my 96 ej22 legacy.....my apologies if i sounded offensive or arrogant....
  19. edrach-man what car was that....the first time i did my clutch/flywheel the whole job took me 6 hours.....the second time i did it it took me 4 and the third time i did it took me about 3......and i did it on jackstands in my driveway.....were the bolts like rusted on or somethin?.....
  20. i know you say the front end is were you hear the noise.....but you can also get a clunk from bad u joints when you change gears in an automatic........my father had it very bad on his c3 corvette.....
  21. i have had the trans out of my 96 lego 3 times and i pulled the trans for all of them......i just unbolted my exhaust system at the heads, unplugged the o2 sensors and undid the hangers and i just pulled the complete exhaust system still together off the car.....i think it is prety amazing on my car almost every nut and bolt with the exception of a few was a 14mm.......and you know every time i did it i improved little by little......the only awkward part for me was tilting the engine so far when i had to put the trans back in to get it in alignment into the pilot bearing......so i would recommend pulling the transmission instead of the engine.....but obviously either will work.....oh when i did my clutch for the first time my subaru had 179,500 miles on it and the flywheel was all heat scored so instead of machining it i just bought a new one off of http://www.autopartwarehouse.com ... the brand was sachs and it was only about i think $80.00..... im sure you know while you have it opened up to do the clutch....replace the pilot bearing release bearing release bearing clips (which hold the bearing onto the fork) rear main seal (though i dont think they are that prone to leaking) rear seperator plate (not to sure if the 2.5 L. have one or not or if its plastic or metal) pressure plate clutch disc machine or purchase new flywheel im sure there is something i missed and someone else will chime in......
  22. as for a used engine if i does happen to be the head gaskets and something is warped/cracked.....check out the local Junkyards also colorado componant rebuilders and LKQ i just bought a trans from LKQ and it cost me about $600 with a 6 month warranty....its def. worth callin um up.....18003490705
  23. coil overs! ......no just kidding but i have heard of alot of people using the KYB GR2 struts.......not to sure if they help with handling at all......but you could def. increase your handling if you wanted to lower it a little bit.......i bought these springs called intrax off of http://www.autopartswarehouse.com and they are considered lowering springs but they didnt lower my 96 legacy that much.......they werent to expensive either.....
  24. yes i had that problem with the HLA's a while ago on my 96 ej22 and i just came out started her up and i heard them ticking away like extremely loud fuel injectors (it kind of sounded to me like a valve tap)...took her for a drive and added some marvels mystery oil to the oil filler neck and nothing has come back since.......i do believe the 1.8's have HLA's and if i can remember correctly they are significantly larger than the ones on the 2.2's......
  25. usually bubbles in the overflow is not a good sign.......how many miles on the car? have the HG's ever been done?
