  1. i plan to run hotbits suspension... 46mm monotube struts... best bang for your buck as far as rally suspension goes... expencive though... this is just scratching the surface for what is to come... i'm just so happy to finally have parts and begin modding! http://www.hotbits.org/v3/main.cfm that's for the suspension... it's overkill... but w/e!
  2. i think my pictures kinda speak for themselves... so my hours of research is looking to be paying off!!! i just put in the 98 RS knuckles and brakes... granted, i have no struts (it's a string right now) and my stabalizer bar still needs to be made and the axles shortened, and brake lines are needed... but the brakes are in there and they FIT!!!!!!!!! even the tie rod bolted right into the knuckle...

it's kinda confusing with the figure 8 in there... plus 'the wall'... you go a different direction after the second figure 8 so you gotta keep an eye on that... the map makes it even more confusing... but once you get out there it's easy... (going fast is the hard bit)
  4. sure you can probably pull... stopping it though... it's not the engine that keeps the towing limit at 800lbs (which it is for gen1's), it's the brakes... that's why the towing limit AND the weight limit are the same... it doesn't matter where the weight is, it all has to be stopped by the same brakes... so unless those trailors have brakes of their own i wouldn't risk it... it does look like they have drum brakes on there... but i don't see a brake mechanism on the tongue..?:-\ sweet trailors! i want one...
  5. i lifted the motor (ea71) out of my brat and it wasn't very fun... do-able, but not fun... i removed as much as possible before i did it... intake, alt... then once i got that stuff out of the way i moved the motor forward and removed the flywheel and clutch... the flywheel practically doubles the weight of the motor and REALLY throws off the balance if you're lifting it out the front alone... drained all the fluids too... with 2 people it should be a snap... after i got the motor out my buddy showed up and we moved it the rest of the way to the back of the brat... he said as he picked it up with me, "sh*t dude how the hell did you do this alone!" with 2 people you shouldn't have a problem... although an engine hoist is always a better option!!!

i just finished another event yesterday... was really fun, lots of cars and a great turn out... more subies than miatas FTW!!!:-p out of 87 drivers i came in 64th before PAX and 48th after PAX... 2nd in H stock... i'm really happy with my times... it looks like i'm improving...(third event) and i made a camera mount at work that bolts to my roof rack...(i work for a company called rack attack... we sell roof racks... duh...) so i had some spare time at work and it looks like it turned out great! there is the vid... i put it to music because there was huge wind noise... so instead of having it silent, i put in some liquid tension experiment... that was my best run... plus my two mistakes...
  7. the 'BRAT' and '4WD' logos are glued on but the brat one is indented... i filled it... the 'SUBARU' logo is actually bolted on... look under it where the plate lights are... the whole badge is indented and with it off it looks horrible... i welded in a plate and fiberglassed over it to make it smooth... this is pretty much the only way to do it... that plate overhangs just like the old one so i can still have plate lights... i'm probably gonna get rid of the stockers and use LED's...
  8. i was actually trying to get away from that... i don't want it to look like a tailgate from 79... i wanted to update the look... hence the shaved subaru badge... if i'm going to use badges at all i am going to use new ones... plus it'll be kinda funny since pretty much nobody is going to know what it is without the badges on the back...
  9. unfortunatly no it doesn't all look that good... however i got some repro fiberglass fenders and i'm working on the little bits around the car... the car was yellow... i don't like that colour, so it's gonna be flat black primer until i can afford a real paint job... it's work in progress...
  10. so my tailgate was getting rusty, the subaru emblem has seen better days, and there was overspray on the badges... so i desided to get rid of all of that stuff! and here is the result... (trim, handle, hinges, ect ect still need to be put on but the work is done) like my new shoes?:-p what do people think about the gate?
  11. they came a couple days ago! i will be sending out the the one to rguyver once i get a hold of him...
  12. ya i've done the rear disc conversion... harder then i thought, but not impossibly difficult... i would recommend bending the end of the trailing arm vs. grinding it down... help keep more material there making it a little stronger... it looks really sweet since you're front and rear rotors are actually the same size...:-p

i've just started autoXing and just finished my second event yesterday... since the brat isn't done i've been ripping it up in the civic hatchback... it's a good little car to autoX! the first event i went to i got pretty pwnd... dnf'd 4 times out of 6... and the two times that i did place were 5 seconds slower than the other HS cars... however this event i didn't DNF at all! and better yet my times progressively got better as the day went by... went from 66 seconds down to 62... my last run i got 63... i'm gonna say it's because i had a passenger with me and we had 'danger zone' blasting for the whole run...(you know, from top gun...) i also learned the awesomeness of running high pressure in the tires... i went from 29psi to 40... shaved 2.5 seconds off my time... like my body roll? and tire flex?!? this was before going to 40psi... i think i may have even put down some competative times after PAX... results aren't posted yet, so we'll see!
  15. that was kinda an unfair race... while the wrx is awesome it was racing the lambo where it doesn't shine... the lambo isn't a drag car, it is a race car... (well it's supposed to be... dunno how many people actually use them as such) put them on the track and the lambo would win hands down... and i don't mean the drag strip... still cool though... subaru beat the lambo!
  16. that's a shame that the old ej22 turbo motor still isn't in the car... the shortblock is one of the best subaru ever made...(better then the ej20G ) if you can still get that shortblock then i would highly recommend it... put the ej20 DOHC heads with whatever intake is on there right now... with the proper ECU and a few other bits and bobs you pretty much have an impreza 22b motor found in the famous rally cars... about 300hp... and the ej20G should already have an intercooler on it...:-\
  17. i've been hunting around to no avail and the search i did didn't give me any real answers. the common thing to do is get the xt6 clutch. cool, but from where? i have search online parts catalogs and found a few choices. i really want something that grabs. like... if i dump it at 6000rpm, i want everything on the trans side to break... no slipping!:-p i've found a few... exedy clutch for 109 bucks at www.speedyperformanceparts.com they also carry the sachs for 203. these are both stock style clutches... however they don't have any exedy ones in stock... boo erns... the sachs ones can be found on pretty much all parts websites... mostly going for about 200-250 bucks US... they also carry centerforce dual friction clutches for the RX... 90% more grab according to them...:-p (for 253 bucks) i also found this one for 134 bucks http://www.r1concepts.com/Items/Boss%20OE%20292? on ebay i found xt-6 stage 1 and stage 3 clutches... stage 1 for 189CND and the stage 3 for 286CND i think... stage 3 i think is overkill... ideas and options? where did you get your clutch? how much? ect ect... i hope this hasn't already been covered in any great detail...
  18. all of you who want to change the colour of you dash... this is how you do it properly so you can change it to ANY colour you'd like... the only thing i would do differently is not use bulb comdoms... get LED's that fit into the factory slots... they are easy to find on google... many companies make them... once you got those go buy the same colour LED's from an electronics store... then tap into one of the dash light plugs and wire in a pile more lights... this will give it a brighter, better look... do it right and you can get a very nice blue like in the mk4 and mk5 VW's... i am still debating doing this... http://forums.nasioc.com/forums/showthread.php?t=690378&highlight=gauge+color+change that write up is for a WRX... but the idea is the same...
  19. cool ya thanks for shipping USPS... fedex and UPS charge brokerage fees... i will never use them again! thanks for working all this out...
  20. so they are sent? i haven't gotten anything in the mail... can you give me a date for when they may arrive? how they were sent? thanks!
  21. that's a mighty fine looking RX guage cluster you got there...:-p  you gotta hook me up with one of those steering wheels!
  22. and shocks by themselves won't give any lift... springs will... and after you buy all 4 corners for 70 bucks, you're at 300 bucks...:-\
  23. i'm trying to figure out the wiring on the rx... the brat i got pretty much solved on which wires do what... i have just been using my multimeter on each wire and figuring out what happens when i flip a switch... i'm slowly figuring it out... if you can look under an RX dash and tell me what each plug goes to then that would help... thanks!
  24. hey i'm busy trying to get my 87 RX column to wire up properly into the gen1... how did you go about wiring it? did you put in the intermitent wipers? thanks!
  25. nobody can help me out with this? bump
