  1. Should be just above the hood latch...I've got two types, same shape, different color(blue, black) different pins- one is missing one or its scooted over one notch. I don't remember. My 87 brat's is light blue, 82 wagon is black.
  2. Nice wagon! Thats a beauty! A washing machine hose fits on the heater lines perfect. Halve one and you get one to the hose and one to your collection bucket.
  3. ^^+1 on the York style comp. I believe Jim Greene's in monroe has all the info there and parts. Its a hot rod shop that was in lynnwood. Fittings Inc. has the cheapest parts, hoses and fittings, that I've found in the pnw. They supply everyone else and you can just walk on in.
  4. Amazon had the kyb gr2 ea81 kit, all four corners, for $143 last I checked, free shipping.
  5. But GD, The percentage of americans who cant drive a stick is on the fast rise! Everyday I see more and more people with a phone and latte in hand on the highway. Almost daily I see someone reading a book, and two to three times daily, someone painting a masterpiece, on their face!(Even though its against the law.) They wouldn't do that in a manual.
  6. O.K. So there is no thread sealer for this.... I'll just try to find a helper. I tried to bleed it all the way from the master but there is a bit of leak everywhere. Nothing you can bleed and be confident in. My wagon bled out fine, you could push the nipple with one hand and be fine. I have not a clue why this one is so bad, all over. Fluid color has been not that bad all the way through. Wish the weather was better....
  7. So, yesterday I got my new suspension on my brat but had a few issues. My spring compressor I borrowed, the big jaws vice mount type didn't work. So I had to run to rent another, the standard type. Meanwhile my brake lines drained. So I set about to bleeding when finished with the struts. I ran across the loose nipple problem using a vacuum pump. I got air pulling in from around the nipples. I was thinking about teflon taping the threads but I dont know if that is a really bad thing to do as they thread in and out all the time and I don't really want tape floating inside my calipers. I hit all four wheels and had the same prob everywhere and the brakes on this car are bad. I would like to keep vacuum on the pump. What have people done to avoid this?
  8. I would be able to safely bet you can find everything you'll need here to keep that car on the road, minus some parts and gaskets or hoses. At least you'll be able to find the link to other sites here if the writeup you need is hosted elsewhere. Google helps with the search function too if you find yourself getting frustrated or stuck with the same threads during a search.
  9. Here is a current explanation of your how your hose routing should be, I'd double check that. Nice build!
  10. Thats my wagon with an ej! I love it! There is so much storage in the back where the rear seat was, you'll dig! I put a fold down board to extend the bed to the front seats as far as I could and still drive so I can sleep back there. Its room for a hidden sub or whatever. I got the 5spd dr, though, the paddle shifters sound great! Lifted on 14"s! Be prepared for wheel hop!
  11. I'm ready to post again. I've read all I could on others probs with the ej22 running rich and I think I'v nailled it all down New injectors some new seals and one didnt sit right and put out that fancy "rid my neighborhood of mosquitoes" smoke show. So I found it shoved it in there with a stick and it idles much smoother. I feel though something is still wrong. I start the car and it still shoots smoke, like raw gas. My neighbor said to me it might be the TPS. I'm getting code 22 and I have a brand new knock sensor recently installed. I test the TPS and some things dont seem right. Its testing between b an d at 9ohms and my childrens says 3.5 to 6.5 and both the spares I pulled from the jy say the same. Now my chiltons covers a lot of models. Junk yards have junk, but Napa wants like $270...... (think squeezing blood from a rock emocon here, might be useful) So I guess I'll start asking questions now. How much should I run the car to get out residual gas in the exhaust before I; blow up myself or the car? Die from asphyxiation on a windless day. realize its a different problem? I'm getting code 22 and I checked continuity in the circuit, could it be a failed sensor or is my code cheat sheet wrong as it covers many makes too, like my chiltons?
  12. Check out my troubled thread auto to manual . I had the same prob till I got the neutral switch thing and the ...park switch. Brought the idle down perfect.
  13. Oooooo! Got a little bit of power there do ya, Jacob? I know some places sell frame stiffeners for rally cars but I'd bet not for our older gens. I wonder what one could do about that besides a full remake of the car. I was thinking about caging the back of my wagon since it has a bent b-pillar but I really don't know what would need/should be done. Now, Jackson Rally on the other hand....If I walked into that shop for a day, I'd never stop asking questions! Well anyway, How are the RX springs to drive on your car? Could you use a stiffer spring or is it just perfect for road use or too stiff. I'm not going rally style or anything so I'm not wanting to make it too stiff, I want it to handle well, but not like its on rails. Comfortable and safe to play! Hey Gloyale, I like your top mount for your rear springs! Did you remake the whole strut top? I was thinking of remaking mine out of L stock but I'm afraid of having it break. The way I have mine setup I'm just counting on bolts not shearing off, I'm confident there but I would like to tuck it closer to the body. I get a little bit of tire rub on occasion when I get a little happy in the car.
  14. Hey, no offence taken, I was under the assumption that we couldn't get ea aftermarket springs. I called a few spring shops a couple of yrs ago who cold shouldered me just about and said "We don't make...those!" I didn't call ground control and the other high end one, king. I've only been after fixing my saggy front. (Well and making the smoke machine run right after it now idles right. thanks Gloyale....I'll post later) I've always wanted full air suspension in a subie, by the way, but its way out of my league. Soobs are so light, it would be so fun. Not practical at all. I've looked into it a little. With a full sized system in an ea81, do you think you could fully "bunny hop"? I think maybe close.....
  15. O.K. maybe Phizinza meant the rear...I got them there ea82 rears on my wagon, I don't want them on the brat. I'm just worried about the front. So, 87 brat....Is the spring rate 134lb/in? I cant find verification anywhere I've looked. If so, I'm gonna try the ea82 wagon front springs as they are a few pounds more. Unless some RX springs magically appear available. If not, I might try to get the air strut but that will be a while out, less moving parts the better as well. Interesting thoughts about the air struts.....ea81s eat axles. You would probabaly have to convert to an ea82 crossmember (more room)and/or lift it at the strut tops to keep some semblance of correct camber. But, it would be fun with 4 corner controls. It would be a toy and not really a car for transportation then. I do hear the cheap ones overheat and blow out easily during hard driving. I havent seen any that would fit a 5" hole, the standard ones say 6" but run out to 7"-8" in girth.
  16. I didn't see a post welcoming your new car to the fold! Congrats!
  17. You have to use photobucket or picasa or flickr or some photo hosting site and paste the pics url to get pics here.
  18. I was thinking about using stickers. The jy special would be double sided tape and matching emblems. Sorry got corn in my teeth....
  19. You can throw money at anything to fix it. Most cars do that past a certain age. Have you seafoamed your engine? That can fix a variety of age related problems if done right. My 82 wagon does the same thing after a long downhill run, sometimes sips a little bit of oil too. Bad maintenance by a previous owner, the engine only has just over 140k. Its not gonna kill me or itself so I'm gonna drive it till it dies. If your worried about looks.....give it a hair of gas on the way down hill so it wont create that oil sucking engine pressure.
  20. I saw a post by Phizinza where he claimed to have ea82 rears on his old ea81. In the post I posted. I havent found an air shock part number that would work. Less than $4k. You got one? I can fab mounts. I cant change the shape of the world, but small fab work I can do. I have the ej compressor, I almost have all the parts for the air and oiler. Heck, as far as I'm concerned a few extra pounds of spring force on an ea81<ej swap 'must' be mandatory, for safety's sake if nothing else. I'm not just gonna look at it.
  21. Really, they fit....I just took a quick look at the ea82 rears and the unmounted wagon strut, as it sits complete, the spring is 11.5" and the mounted on the car, sedan one is 9". Not looking too good for squeezing on a ea81 front thats 7" mounted. I'm betting though the ea82 vs the ea81 fronts are quite close to the same coefficient. On Monstarus chart the ea82 wagon fronts are 146lb/in compared to 134lb/in. IF the ea81s are indeed 134lb/in which is a number I read in a four yr old post, that might be an available way to go.
  22. I've got ea82 sedan stuff on the back of my lifted ea81 wagon but I got a set of ea82 wagon rears in the drive now. I was wondering about putting them on the front of the brat. 194lb/in. compared to 134lb/in. I just don't know how easily they could be modded to fit. Ea82 sedan rear springs are 159lb/in compared to 157lb/in for the rx. Now lengths and travel I cant find a thing on or how to mount them. I do know the sedan struts are shorter than the wagon and I'll measure the springs today. How tough is the mounting of the ea82 spring on an ea81 strut?
  23. Hmmm how difficult would it be to put rear ea82 stuff on a ea81.....? http://www.ultimatesubaru.org/forum/showthread.php?t=75637&highlight=spring+rate Wouldn't the turbo stuff lower the car?
