  1. I used to live in Helena! New York that is! That place is wicked cold! 40-60 below in the snaps, ice storms so bad the house would sheet up and you'd have to hammer and axe your way in or out, where ever you got stuck. When I was there I had my eyeballs frostbite with goggles on and I only had a bike. The big grocery store was 20 miles away. Good times. Glad I was 18 then!
  2. Killed a rear strut, noticed I couldn't find reverse anymore and found the blown out bushing and temporarily tightened it up till I can get a new one, hot wired the fan because the fan thermosensor died, got a squeal from the fan telling me its on its way and doesn't like the cold, and to top it off nicely I noticed some green liquid seeping out of the top of my engine block, right at the headgasket. I was wondering why it was getting a little warm sometimes. All in a weeks work and right in time for the snow!
  3. You do live around Seattle! I saw some girl, very cute, young, with the e-brake on (rear wheels not moving) and a rear flat, driving down my street (inch of compressed snow and ice solid), on the phone. So I'm helping my neighbors put on chains after they almost hit two cars and as she goes slowly by I tap on her window. She has no problem stopping, and stops, rolls down her window and I say "Do you know you are sliding because the e-brake only works the rear wheels in your car? ". She is still on the phone when she replied back, "Oh", she was white knuckling the e-brake. "And your rear tire is flat" I said as I noticed how bald her tire were. I don't remember what I said after that but it was a short and sweet farewell, she said "thanks". WHERE WAS THE HAND FOR THE STEERING WHEEL?!!
  4. Do they still make armor all? That stuff is like a sin to put even near your car as it breaks down all the vinyl when it reacts with ...light?
  5. I never did see a stuck .....pre 2004? subaru. A couple of the new ones couldn't do crap to get unstuck, but that might just be the drivers and their confidence in their car. I did see a stock hatch (rare here) cruise past a ton of stuck vehicles with a couple of babes in it. That made my day. I live on a relatively icy road close to one of the highest hills in here rat city and I have had no problem getting around, or having fun!:banana: (Yes..... that was me doing doughnuts then helping people......)
  6. Well sure, come on by! I just had the thing apart today too. I dont think its much, if any, over an inch mind you, full range. It might be closer to a half per engagement. I got to pull it again too, but not tomorrow. I need a set of new grommets in my linkages as to find reverse again but I tightened it to work and I might not make it to pap tomorrow.
  7. Dude! Thats what I was gonna do! I didn't think of seran wrap though, I was gonna buy foil! Welcome to the "not just passing through" board! I like the trikes, they just look like so much fun.

Id bet if you found him a super cheap hood he might reconsider the snorkle. Thats a hot ride!
  9. Sometimes the fixed rear windows leak behind the molded plastic interior panels and don't show up very quickly. I might consider seeing if the cloth sound matting underneath is wet and holding water. (and fix your exhaust leaks:rolleyes:)
  10. At the windshield shops they use sprayaway cleaner and compressed air. They spray the foamy cleaner around the gasket on the outside and try to find the hole blasting air on the inside.
  11. If you have a a/c model car you could have standing water in the watchacallit air cooler box thingy, the drains can clog or, or course, just a leaky window allowing condensation in. Getting rid of that leak or trapped moisture would be my first step.
  12. I've used some pretty strong solvents on the interior glass before. Wearing a respirator of course. There is a anti fog 'RainX' product that work only if you DON'T drive at night! That stuff will piss you off. I would say after normal cleaning, put on a respirator, using a clean white rag, with the doors open and in a windy location, scrub the windows again with lacquer thinner or toluene, carb cleaner will work too but just spray it on the rag only and out side of the car. Acetone I think is a waste and denatured alcohol is not hot enough. Watch your rag. Wear a respirator and dont get any solvent on anything but the glass. Some new cars you want to be for-warned, there is a coating on the glass that will be ruined and will give you terrible visibility if you use solvents. Older cars its usually removed or was never there. I suppose you should find a test spot. I do that about once a year in the summer. Its amazing what you can come up with on your rag in the pnw. Or any city really....:-\
  13. I reel in shock to think of your situation. I pray things come out fruitful for everyone. If you show them this site they might realize it was kind of rather, collectible. Be glad your hands are full with work and not hair.
  14. I figure I could have gotten more if I cleaned the engine bay and the interior, it would have said more about the running shape, but, I'm still driving it. The settlement I got kept me driving. (helped pay the rent after I got it fixed) Whatever you do, take your time in settling. My friend had a land crusier stolen last year. His new one is not as classic but is quite comparable and the insurance company got it to him as well. It took a year plus and their first quote was like $600.
  15. They gave me $719 after I hassled them. They must find one in the same running shape as yours to do a price match so good luck with that. My wagon has a half done macco paint job and a destitute interior w/ 220k at the time. If yours looked better than that you should get more. Show them this http://www.ultimatesubaru.org/forum/showthread.php?t=117599 That'll rile 'em up!
  16. http://www.ultimatesubaru.org/forum/showthread.php?t=96298&highlight=brat+swap I wonder what this guys car drives like. I'll bet he wants softer springs. If I had a garage to work in.....I would really do this. I'm really guessing that the really hard part to this is the fenders, and the rear strut towers and the rest can be done with a welder and some steel and a fair bit of time. (Why does everyone hate OBI motors? My conversion is showing promise if I can just diagnose the last thing. Whenever i'll find that "last one" I'll be so happy, but a different thing just pops up in its place.)
  17. Should be just above the hood latch...I've got two types, same shape, different color(blue, black) different pins- one is missing one or its scooted over one notch. I don't remember. My 87 brat's is light blue, 82 wagon is black.
  18. Nice wagon! Thats a beauty! A washing machine hose fits on the heater lines perfect. Halve one and you get one to the hose and one to your collection bucket.
  19. ^^+1 on the York style comp. I believe Jim Greene's in monroe has all the info there and parts. Its a hot rod shop that was in lynnwood. Fittings Inc. has the cheapest parts, hoses and fittings, that I've found in the pnw. They supply everyone else and you can just walk on in.
  20. Amazon had the kyb gr2 ea81 kit, all four corners, for $143 last I checked, free shipping.
  21. But GD, The percentage of americans who cant drive a stick is on the fast rise! Everyday I see more and more people with a phone and latte in hand on the highway. Almost daily I see someone reading a book, and two to three times daily, someone painting a masterpiece, on their face!(Even though its against the law.) They wouldn't do that in a manual.
  22. O.K. So there is no thread sealer for this.... I'll just try to find a helper. I tried to bleed it all the way from the master but there is a bit of leak everywhere. Nothing you can bleed and be confident in. My wagon bled out fine, you could push the nipple with one hand and be fine. I have not a clue why this one is so bad, all over. Fluid color has been not that bad all the way through. Wish the weather was better....
  23. So, yesterday I got my new suspension on my brat but had a few issues. My spring compressor I borrowed, the big jaws vice mount type didn't work. So I had to run to rent another, the standard type. Meanwhile my brake lines drained. So I set about to bleeding when finished with the struts. I ran across the loose nipple problem using a vacuum pump. I got air pulling in from around the nipples. I was thinking about teflon taping the threads but I dont know if that is a really bad thing to do as they thread in and out all the time and I don't really want tape floating inside my calipers. I hit all four wheels and had the same prob everywhere and the brakes on this car are bad. I would like to keep vacuum on the pump. What have people done to avoid this?
