It's the open house at the Iron Range Offroad Park in Gilbert, MN to raise awareness for responsible and legal offroading. You can get into the park for free. Let's try to get some more subarus up there. There will be lots of jeep guys, and the local S10 ZR2 club is probably coming, aswell as my uncle in his Landrover. If we get enough people to come, it'll really get things moving on the new Virginia expansion to the park. My place is only an hour away, so lodging will be free. Who wants to come? Mick? Austin? Archemitis? Tim? also, this is a great place, with lots of terrain, a stock subaru would be more than fine up there.

good point! I didn't think of that....if there wasn't a blown fuse before....there probably is now I'll see if I can find a better test lead. Thanks!

Anyone seen the new SubieSport?
Numbchux replied to Numbchux's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
I got an almost full page spread in the Readers Rides section on my car. I'm going to take a picture of it to save it. I'll post it up later. And I just sent them an email, with a huge list of everything I've done to my car, and attached 5 or 6 hi-res pics to it. I just got my copy on Friday, so those of you who are subscribed, it's probably on it's way -
well, I still couldn't find my multimeter.....but I dug out an old electric Radiator Fan, cut the plug off, extended both the wires, propped it up in a safe place where the blades couldn't hit anything, and went around testing things. I figure even if there isn't all of 12v getting through there, it'll still spin the fan a little. touched it to the battery (just to make sure my system worked..) and it spun (and reminded me why I replaced that fan.....bad bearing, yikes what a horrible sound) Anyway, I turned the ignition on, and started touching my wires to stuff. and got nothing. nothing at the + and - sides of the coil. tried + and ground too. then I stuck the wires in both of the connecters going to the coil. nothing, even in the one that plugs into the amplifier. at this point, I'm thinking it's going to be something stupid. but I just don't know what

Anyone? or notice that one of the testers for the Honda CRV vs forester vs impreza was TEX?! or see the huge article about WJM's RX and a how-to on Megasquirt? or catch the '86 XT Turbo the magazine picked up as a project rally car? but I'm telling ya, the best part was page 23 -
Why Thank you...that was a fun day that's exactly right! I noticed that very early on in my FWD loyale, when going through snow, if I went in forward, I could almost always back out! weight distribution? like most of it in the front, not much in the back :-p

everything's plugged in.... from the weather we've been having the last few days, I doubt anything got melted

lol, it's actually MorganM's old wagon. there is an ecu code for the sensor (the Crank Angle Sensor), That happened on my other wagon when I swamped, got gilbert mud in the sensor...but it threw a code. I'm not getting the code now. I can't find my multimiter, so I haven't been able to test it, that and it's snowed about 8 inches today, and I don't have a garage.....brrrrrr Will there be voltage to the + side of the coil all the time with the ignition on? even without the engine turning over? or do I need to have someone crank the engine over while I test it?

April 2006....check out page 23

so why don't it work??? Update page 4
Numbchux replied to Buddy's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
did you check the fuse? it could be that it's getting power from the switched power source, or even just the backlight line, and not the always on power. I hope that made sense... also, could be the fuse on the back of the deck or it's just broken -
fuse is fine..... how would I diagnose/repair the amplifier?

looks very good, a little goofy coming out of the hood, but I bet it'll work awesome!

Subarus do not have torque steer. Don't confuse them with other FWD cars, they're much different. What causes torque steer, is the tranverse mounted engine, and therefore the tranny/diff has to be mounted off to one side. This forces the front axles to be different lengths. Under accelleration, the axles actually twist a little, and because of the unequal lengths, unequal amounts of power go to either front wheel. This causes one wheel to want to accel more than the other, cause the car to turn (This is why Brian's eclipse turns at the start of the race in the Fast and Furious, btw, everyone mocks that, but it's actually quite real). Subarus, on the other hand, have a longitudanal (I didn't spell that right...sorry) engine/tranny configuration. allowing for exactly equal length front axles (they're even interchangeable). Torque steer is a non-issue.

OK, didn't have much time today, but I did check for ECU codes.....34 = EGR....I suspect that was the one that caused the previous owner to put electrical tape over the CEL. So I doubt that's new....any other ideas?

the drivetrain is plenty strong!!! it handles alot of abuse offroad with 28" tires, and only fails if you have extreme CV angles
-
it is If it's got a FWD mode, it does not have a center diff. That's why you can't use 4WD on the road
-
You're most definately not the first one to do this... there have been a few that have damaged the rear output while abusing it substantially... BUT, lo range RWD and front ebrake are a wonderful combination:

no, you don't, when minnesotans condemn something to the junkyard.....you just don't

SVX to EA82 5 lug conversion?
Numbchux replied to torxxx's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
I suppose it's possible with the front, I'm not sure, but the rear is a whole different animal. the entire rear suspension was changed with the EJ cars. Take 'er apart and have a look, but I think you'll find that some extreme modification will be in order to make them work right. -
yep, all dash lights are working just fine. I did my best to look at the wires going to the coil, but it's hard in the dark, I'll look again in the morning.
-
nope, it's got brand new belts, and no covers....that was one of the first things I checked
-
+1.....I've never even seen an EA81 on the road that wasn't a board member! even EA82's are rare in this part of the country! and junkyards?! you're lucky to find a legacy older than '95!

so I've been driving my car ('88 Gl Wagon, 3" BYB lift, etc.) quite a bit these days, but just because of scheduling, etc. haven't driven it in a few days. I know the gas tank was real low, so I went out real early so I could go straight to a gas station. Got out there, and it wouldn't start. Great, so I throw my gas can in my Girlfriends Escort, hook up the battery charger (in case it took alot of cranking), and the magnetic block heater, and head off to class, after class, I pick up a couple gallons of gas and come home. I put in the gas, and tried it again. Still nothing, turns over fine, but won't even fire. great, so I pull off the coil wire and test for spark....nothing Any ideas? it's dark and snowing now, and I don't want to try to diagnose it now....but anyone have a similar problem? it's been extremely cold this weekend, well below 0 for a few days there....anyone had a car just not start? it's cranking strong, and it really isn't that cold now. but it just won't fire.

if it were me, and I had a parts car...I'd swap trannies...
