  1. yep, they're the same size. SAE tire measurements are total tire diameter, and tread width...metric is tread width, then sidewall height, written as a percentage of the first number, so the tire diameter is very dependant on all 3 numbers..... as long as the wheel offset is the same, the tires will fit the same
  2. here's what I want..... '92 loyale wagon RX tranny/rear diff somewhat built EJ22 N/A motor 5-lug swap with GC8 front brakes 200SX rear ebrake conversion KYB GR2 shocks coilovers thick swaybars 13"steelies off a FWD impreza stock wheel covers but that's my car, don't steal it!!! lol, kidding
  3. it's true, that if you use GC8 impreza stuff up front, you lose front ebrake.....however....that doesn't mean you get it in back. the rear still uses XT6 stuff.... BUT.....rumor has it, that nissan 200SX rear calipers are a direct bolt-up, and have rear ebrake. then all you have to do is run the cable!
  4. don't get sucked into the myth that wider tires = better off road performance! IMHO, it can help, but it can hurt too. personally, I think tread pattern, and height (only for ground clearance though) are your only major concern as far as tires go. I can't say whether the outback struts will not work on yours, but I do know, the forester parts WILL work on your impreza, and I think you still need the tops from your impreza.....but do a search, I know there is more info for sure again, I don't have an EJ subaru, so I have no idea, but I think those swampers should fit. but don't quote me on it I would say that scorpion springs would definately be overkill. the forester springs will give you more than enough suspension lift, and I do think that the scorpion springs will just limit your flex off road. not to mention the fact that I think they're only available in australia
  5. you could use either size, but I would say 215 would be about your max doesn't matter what tread pattern, as long as it's about that size the 2 sizes you're looking at are 27.1" and 27.7" so if you're going with something standard sized, that's your diameter, and I would say 7-8" wide would be good AA is the only company to make an EJ body lift in the US forester parts fit on impreza....outback for legacy skidplate will be different after the body lift, you've got sort of the right idea, but you might want to make something a little more exact. sounds like you've got a good plan! get started
  6. well, I wouldn't jump to say that the AA kit is better than the BYB kit, they're both very good. however, BYB doesn't make an EJ kit....so you have to go with the AA one. 15" steelies are perfect for wheeling a subaru. most decent sized off road tires come for 14 or 15 inch wheels, gives you lots of sidewall for a larger contact patch off road, and allowing you to air down more effectively. the subrame lift isn't too hard to install (well, I assume it isn't, it's not on an EA car, and the EJ's aren't much different) but even though a subaru lift is pretty straightforward, it's still amazing how quick the costs rack up. and tires are spendy. I'd say get the struts/springs, and some tires. and add the body lift this summer sometime, or next year...
  7. yea, I know....I didn't phrase that very well anyway, I'm not sure why anyone would consider cutting and adding length to the struts...
  8. I know you've sort of made up your mind, but nonetheless, it should be stated that an AA lift requires the use of Outback/Forester struts to gain the clearance at the spring perch.... so you're options are spring/strut lift or spring/strut lift AND AA body lift. that being said, EJ wheel wells are a bit bigger than old gen cars, Austin is running the exact size tires on his impreza that I'm running on my 4" lifted GL, and I had to do some serious pounding to get 'em to fit, and they still rub when I turn. Zap.....the Outback/Forester strut mod lifts the car by extending the bottom of the strut. The AA kit puts blocks on the top of the strut just like virtually all the EA body lifts (excluding mine and a couple other's rear end....which I LOVE)
  9. no, you could just mount the front half of the driveshaft......I'm sure there are ways around it....
  10. yes, except, the driveshaft helps to hold in the tranny fluid. sitting level, the fluid will not leak out with the driveshaft removed....but if it's tipped even slightly back, it will, so I'm sure it would if you were driving.

    12" wheels?

And they make atv wheels with a 4x135 (or something like that, it's close) lug pattern, but they're not even as strong as the wheels on your donut spares. Sweet82 runs avt tires on custom wheels, but his buggy weighs a fraction of a full subie. It looks like he put those wheels on his wagon, but probalby just for test fittin, and pics.

    12" wheels?

yep, it's been discussed before.... long story short, they're not strong enough to hold up the weight of a subaru
  13. I'm just not a turbo guy, never really have been. mostly because I have a very heavy right foot, and the amount of easy power available with a turbo scares me and my driving record.... and yes, it'll get an EJ22 soon enough, but the lifted wagon needs it worse, and I can't afford to buy a second motor (not to mention the adapter plate or the time to wire it) in one summer and, this will be an autocross/rallyX/ice race toy (read: not real competetive, just fun), so lo-end torque will be more important than peak hp...
  14. '88 GL wagon 5MT D/R4WD stock tires, 25city/29hwy (about, I didn't drive it much with stock tires) 28's, 21/21 (not powerful enough for 5th gear....)

    12" wheels?

but SJR....those aren't 4X140, justies used 4x110 or something like that, much smaller
  16. Well, all the things I've gotten from AA have been somewhat custom, so they took time, but even so, were very fast. and they were in touch. although just from your posts, PK, I see you're much less busy and easier to get ahold of BUT, SJR! just go to his site, online ordering....I don't know if it was a coincedince (how on earth do you spell that anyway) or not, but he had it to me in a few days!!
  17. 85Sub4WD.....I beg to differ on the Cam's, I swapped the cam case (stripped valve cover bolt) from this carbed block and my '88's block, and did extensive research first. the cams are the same. I was running with one of each for awhile, no difference. But I think the valve springs aren't quite as strong (or tend to be more worn out), which is why you get valve float a bit earlier. I've had both motors up to 7k, breifly also, the ASV's are already very blocked off, this engine is coming out of a car that I drove DD for a year....so those went early thanks torxxx....I was wondering about that SJR...this is not going to be an offroad rig I have other plans for that I don't have access to any welding/bending etc. equipment. nor do I have access to a junkyard with any EA82's (they're all rusted out!! not even worth junking!!!!), so I can't get a turbo xmember, or the turbo itself. it's just too much hassle, everything would cost money, and I'm not spending out of pocket cash on custom exhaust work when it'll probably just get an EJ in a year or 2 anyway
  18. I'm in the process of helping a buddy of mine add a lo-boost turbo setup to his impreza.....I don't want to mess with it good point on the port and polish! I think I'll do that well, the motor's got 140k miles on it, and I bet the HG's are origional, so I think I'll replace them anyway....I've never done a leakdown test, what's involved in that? (wow I feel like a n00b again....hehe)
  19. OK, so my loyale's motor has a blown headgasket, and needs some help, but sitting in the back of it, is the carbed EA82 out of my '85 wagon. anyway, since the carbed motor's got about half the mileage, and the loyale might have warpage/crackage, I'm going to replace all the seals, and use the carbed block, with the SPFI intake manifold/throttle body... anyway, I'm wondering what I can do to it that might yeild a little more power, I'd like it to be cheap, but how difficult the install isn't an issue, since the motor will be out anyway. I'm thinking Delta cams, but other than that, I don't think there's much I can do. any ideas? also, will an N/A spider intake bolt right up?
  20. Good point! I'd virtually completely looked over that point! I do remember that thread.....seems to me the front strut extensions would have worked, but the engine/tranny crossmember blocks were all different...but I could be wrong
  21. hehe, I love the color on that old motor!! did you ever get the tranny from my parents' place? I'm not sure when I'm going to be able to get down there again.....so if you want it, you're going to have to help yourself (and feel free to do so, my parents know you want, and I tore up the yard pulling the loyale out so you could get at it)
  22. hmm....thought it was skankinpickle, maybe I just thought so because of the car's name....
  23. actually, those are not very nobby tires, that was before his BFG's, it was all momentum at that point and I too know the feeling of the engine quitting in the middle of a deep puddle....while floating, but mine was the disty, and I was floating at first, but I have zero shift boot, as well as bad seals on the doors, so it sank pretty quick. for those that haven't seen it, here's the water line on the back seat.....the next morning oh.....and I guess I might as well post my video: http://www.ultimatesubaru.org/photos/showphoto.php?photo=8529&sort=1&size=medium&cat=500&page=2
