  1. This is what I was thinking.... I don't think it's the throwout bearing, since the cables (HH too...) are probably origional, and the throwout bearing is less than 1k miles old....but it's been in there long enough to make me suspect that it wasn't an installation problem alot of great ideas here, thanks! and yes, I've ordered a new clutch cable from the dealership near my parents house (MNSubaru club discount!), and will just replace it when I have access to a garage....but it's too dang cold/snowy to be doing repairs outside if it can be avoided....
  2. http://www.ultimatesubaru.org/forum/showthread.php?t=36456 he's got some really good pics of the leaf mounts
  3. That's a good idea! That's part of the reason I use my nickname in the real world as my board handle....I answer to Numbchux (or just chux) faster than I do to my given name, Matt
  4. What should I use to lubricate my clutch cable? When it's super cold, it won't work....the only way it will engage is if I manually pull on the lever on the tranny...makes it kinda hard to get to school.... anyway, I thought maybe just spraying WD-40 might work, but I'm not sure...ideas?
  5. it's perfectly safe....just keep in mind (I didn't see where you're from), if you've got snow/ice, you've only got RWD....so be careful. But you won't hurt the car, I've driven my car hundreds of miles, at freeway speeds, in RWD because of failed front axles (I had some issues early this summer)
  6. yea....TCat's had a lift, and 6-lug yota alloys on it
  7. why's that? for along time, before I actually got around to taking off the y-pipe etc. I just took out the bolts, worked fine. I carried the bolts so I could put them back in if I wanted to...but never did...so I took of the whole bar I bet you could just do it on one side....for the same results....
  8. This is VERY interesting! as my car's shocks are probably origional (220k+ miles), and are quite worn. The freeway ride is kinda scary, and I bottom out too easy off-road. I wonder if doing a mod like this would help?! Vanislru? I assume that's why you did it? what'd you think, from an off-road perspective.
  9. hmm....let me give it a try....I too am sure I've missed some (most likely from MW3) Snowstormer Austin TCat MorganM Archemitis ElcaminoKurt McBrat Syrinx Chef Tim Vickaroo Eyesore Dynapar oh yea...and the 2 that don't actually have subs...but are members anyway TheJeepGuy LittleRed I think that's it....
  10. It's a stock option. I think it came on all GL-10 wagons...maybe just turbos. I got mine from someone here in the marketplace. I bet you could find someone either parting out a car, or just posted a wanted thread.
  11. still some unanswered questions..... i won't commit any money until I have at least a couple answers btw...I'm not mounting my lights under the bumper
  12. Yep....rocker fell off....it was a cold, and miserable job....but last night I pulled the cover off....and one of the rockers came off with it. lined 'er up...and now she runs like a champ (and loves deep snow....who'd'a thunk?).... guess the cams are the same!
  13. MorganM used to carry his on his Thule roof rack....just wrapped a bungy cord around it and the crossbar...worked great. I don't think he kept it on there all the time though, just for trail rides. here's a pic of us at camp for the Crawl 4 the cure....look on the roof of his rig: http://www.ultimatesubaru.org/photos/data/709/513camp_01-med.jpg
  14. again...unfortunately, my knowledge of what the cylindar numbers just complicate my description (although I still had #1 right....and the firing order) I do realize that the valve cover is easy to pull off...unfortunately it's been snowing for about a day straight, and I don't have a garage. But if that seems to be the general concensus....I'll give it a try. I think I'll also put the flywheel on TDC, and pop the disty cap off....maybe that will reveal something.
  15. OK, I think I see what you mean...yes, safe downtravel is limited, however, the axle will not physically keep the suspension from extending downward....if you're in a situation where one rear wheel wants to drop down further than the axle can reach....the axle is going to fail, not hold your wheel in the air.
  16. Still haven't had enough time to try resetting the belts....but I did have one momentary idea, so I started it up, and tried pulling individual plug wires, to see if it stopped running as well....#1 had no effect, the rest had an obvious effect....so whatever's off, it's (presumably) closing the intake valve too late....what could this mean any help would be much appreciated, as I need to drive this car home (3+ hours @ 75mph) and I don't have much time to work on it, so I need the repair to work. also...the cylindars are: 2 - 4 1 - 3 rad right?
  17. You make perfect sense, however, yes, I've dropped the diff ~2"....but the trailing arm is still tucked tight against the body. so travel isn't effected. the only reason I have the diff dropped is to protect my axles, but that doesn't effect travel, if the travel goes down too far, it simply destroy's the axle, but doesn't limit the wheel's movement. lucifer child....I'm sorry, I like new people, but don't ask this question....any of them, they've been asked 18,000 times (figuratively speaking)....look around...then go look under the car....you'll figure it out, and if you don't, you're not going to be building a lift for it, it's quite simple.
  18. I beg to differ here....as far as the trailing arm is concerned, I have a 4" suspension lift (the diff is dropped some, but not the trailing arm) and I still have a TON of downtravel. The geometry is changed, so it'll be stiff at first, but it will loosen up. The problem is the axles...as far as the axles are concerned, I have a 1" susp. lift in the front, and I tried to go higher, and ate through axles like none other!
  19. how big is the gap between tubes? any pics of the rear bumper?
  20. You make valid points...however, the jacking by the diff comment was in response to my comment on using a floor jack....we know what a hi-lift jack is...thank you
  21. depends on the floor jack, there are huge ones, and there are small ones. My floor jack weighs about the same as a high-lift
  22. Maybe I said it wrong, I DID replace the passenger side one... I probably will end up checking everything, but since I don't have easy access to a garage, I was going to see how likely it was that the cam was just wrong. It looks like my problem is somewhere else! Thanks! one other thing, my girlfriend followed me while I limped it home that night, she said it occasionally puffed out a big puff of blue smoke....that help anyone? OK, I'm off to try the timing belts again! yay
