yea..remember when one of the guys on the group buy didn't inform AA that he had a manual steering rack, and tried to raise haides that he had gotten the wrong part? anyway, I've got my old power one somewhere...let me know if you need it

Really Stoked to be here!!
Numbchux replied to Huckersteve's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
Well, let me say, you've come to the right place! I'll tell what I know here (these are all in my experience, and not necessarily fact): -these motors don't benefit much from intake...my car loved having larger diam. wires and new plugs, but I haven't tried coil, or anything expensive...remove your cat and muffler, and get a glasspack, they like that alot! -before you replace them, take them apart, you'll see the metal contacts, just clean 'em out, and they'll probably work a ton better! I've repaired many this way, just don't loose the little parts! -JunkYard, or other board member here -tint....I'm going to try DIY (do-it-yourself) but I'll probably wait until spring so I can take advantage of the greenhouse effect for the winter -no subaru 14 or 15" alloys that fit these cars. These have a very unique lug pattern that isn't shared by almost any other car, except Pugeots (referred to pugs), which do offer 14 and 15" steelies or alloy wheels that fit rather nicely -not many lifts available less than 4" and those are body lifts too. I would say do no more than 2" suspension, otherwise you'll eat through CV's, Check out http://www.ozified.com , http://www.alliedarmament.com , and http://www.sjrlift.com , as well as the offroad forum for more info on lifting -I have an allied armament rear bumper with 2" receiver that would be perfect for a bike rack. although I prefer my yakima roof rack for biks -Definately do the rear discs. can be had off of any turbo 4wd car of the same body style, GL's, XT's (not XT6's) etc. -these came with cruise as an option...maybe you could get a unit from a junkyard, otherwise, there are universal aftermarket kits -see below OK, got that out of the way, these (loyales, late GLs etc. more on that later) are referred to as EA82's. I don't know the pre-1980-ish cars, but for all practical purposes, all pre-1985 (as in, '84 and earlier) models where EA81's, and all brats and 2-door hatches too (they were made through '88...i think), the legacy, impreza, and all other newer models are EJxx series cars, and started in '90 with the legacy. OK, all EAxx series cars have essentially the same engine-tranny bolt pattern. EJ-series ones are different. SO, an adapter plate is needed to put say an EJ22 (common 2.2L legacy/impreza motor) on your 4WD tranny. EA81's came with a 4-speed dual-range (hi/lo 4wd..D/R) tranny. and early EA82's came with a 5-speed D/R tranny, this could be quite easily swapped into your loyale, with only some minor linkage complacations. Also highly recommended. for the record, my GL (EA82) had 215k miles on it when I bought it, stock, and as you can see from my signature, it's not exactly stock anymore. it's still worth alot! Watch the rust! on the west coast, it won't be as much of a problem (mine came from OR), but like here in the midwest, where they use tons of salt on the roads, it is. it's definately the number 1 killer of these wonderful cars (even I had to give one up to salt, though her parts will live on!). There is a ton of info on this site, everything I have just mentioned is out there. but for some reason, I just felt like typing it all...use the search function whenever possible. And enjoy!!! -
yep yep...I meant 4k...oops

LSD off of GL-10, what to pay?
Numbchux replied to cmiller's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
I paid $130 from McBrat...already pulled, but I had to drive to Iowa to get it (Ok...I was already going for midwest 3...but still) -
Allied Armament Christmas Group buy Notification
Numbchux replied to Shadyirishmen's topic in Products for your Subaru
me too...now that you mention it -
true...but maybe you're forgetting that this is a subaru...no, I wouldn't trust it to hold up a full size truck. but the car MIGHT weigh 3k lbs fully loaded/soaked with water/full of gas. again...91 loyale...you're comparing a sub to a toyota... fnlyfnd...you've got mail! and shady, I've got some ideas for a front bumper!! I'm gonna photoshop something up, and send it to ya!
-
it is mine...if you'd like I can e-mail you the full resolution version... as for the bumper...I had only one D-ring mounted so I can add a swing gate spare tire mount later this winter. and the receiver, well, it's not as strong as I'd like, but it's plenty strong to pull anything that this poor thing can pull. I wouldn't dare put more than a few hundred pounds tongue weight on it, but I wouldn't want to put much more then 5, maybe 800 lbs total behind the car...and that D-ring aint going nowhere!!! I don't know how on earth you think you can tell how strong it is...but I'm telling you right now, it's strong.
-
yea, I go through that puddle every time I go up there, and every time, I watch that front wheel cause it looks soo sweet! so this time, I thought I'd take a few pictures, I got the camera all muddy, but I've got a service plan...I took 3 others, but that's the best one!
-
yep, it was an option an ANY turbo EA82... the hammer was like $8 @ home depot, now you know....go get one too!
-
well, for starters, that's an EA81 wagon... also, they're quite common in australia (well, I've seen quite a few pics of them), but I've only seen 'em on EA81 wagons, and EA82 sedans (specifically RX's)...
-
um...where you in the group buy? cause I think if I ran AA, I'd do it just like they do, they do ALOT of business, cut 'em some slack.

Your fender cutting solution? pic's if possible please
Numbchux replied to FirstSubaruGLwagon's topic in Off Road
Yea...subarubrat...I just noticed that it looks like your front fender flare overlaps your front door!? any problems there? or does it look worse than it is. -
They don't come on N/A EA82s....and they all have 3.7 final ratio (not entirely true, a few xt6's have 3.9 LSD...but good luck!). if you don't feel like looking for the tag, you could just turn one rear wheel, if the other spins the same way, you've got an LSD.
-
http://www.ultimatesubaru.org/USRM2/mick-usrm/transmission/lsdswap.html from the ultimate subaru repair manual. it refers to 3.7 and 3.9's but those are for the turbo lsd, and open respectively here in the US, just follow the same directions, but with your 4.11, and 3.7 (or whatever you'rs is).
-
So my morning started out something like this: And then I added this: And later in the afternoon: among other things....Yes, now I've got a 3.9 LSD rearend, with an SJR 2" diff shim to ease axle angles. I had much more fun than that, including a very soft, muddy trail that I was VERY glad I had the LSD for. but I was alone, so I didn't get any shots of it... and just another sweet shot from the day:
-
Here are my 2 good pics...I didn't get much since I spent most of my time with the video camera.
-
true...but you'd be suprised!! I certainly was! if he had lo range, it would do awesome...I think the impreza suspension is quite a bit more flexable, so keeping more tires on the ground is easier.
-
of course it does! WE got nothin in solid axles in almost every case, especially flex! Anyway, just put in my 2" diff shim, along with another goodie....but more on that in it's own thread, doesn't actually effect flex, but it does help my axle angles: before: after: it's essentially the same spot, but oviously a bit differet, but still had that back tire off the ground! and look how much better that axle looks! and another angle from that same spot:

oh man, yea, the mudflap HAD to go....I ripped that bugger off, and still had to do some whomping to get stuff to fit. you'll have to be very creative to get the stock mudflap to fit! -
oh yea...all the time, but not hard, just a little noise, hasn't done any damage yet.

I got high tech....I got out my 3lb maul, and made room! -
umm...yea, but that's just the exhaust pipe...duct tape would just melt/burn, coat hangers are perfect!
