  1. yea, the vacuum lines on the EA82 carbed motors are a nightmare...this is true. the EGR light was on in my '85 too...never bothered with it, and it never seemed to care. I think the tape is a perfectly acceptable solution.
  2. sounds alot like a head gasket, just the part between the compression chamber, and the coolant, that would explain the lack of oil/coolant crossover....any white smoke out the tailpipe? I suppose it could be a cracked head or something, but I've honestly never heard of that happening (doesn't mean it doesn't happen...), but head gaskets are rather common... that many miles?! that's funny....my '88 GL's got 225k, and I plan to drive it for years, as long as I don't get in an accident of some sort. EA82t....will bolt right up, need some exhaust stuff, probably the ECU....I'm not sure exactly these are some of the easiest motors to work on, if you've got moderate to advanced experience, I wouldn't even think about paying someone to do it!
  3. looks better every day!! don't sweat the rubbing, mine rubs alot, even when turning on flat ground, I can't imagine what's going on when I flex it out on the trails, but it isn't damaging my tires, and isn't affecting the performance, so I don't worry about it. I wouldn't recommend adjusting the struts up...that was definately the cause of my CV problems!
  4. something like this? or did you want it full-width? I tried that, but that covers up the corner markers, which means I'll have to work the turn signals into the bumper.... quite honestly, I wouldn't want the bullbar, but if this get's the ball rolling on AA's side, that's awesome only problem is, if AA's going to tube bumper's, I'm not sure how this would all fit into that. I really like the bumper I've got on the rear, and want something like it on the front boy, I wish shadyirishmen would chime in with that's new in the AA shop these days. that would be really helpful
  5. yea, true, Austin is a god... however, my first time up there....also first time in a lifted subie, and first time doing any even remotely serious offroading....I went down that same spot, no spectacular pics, but I lifted my back wheel some too. that TJ dropped it's front wheel off into space, and it just spun. Austin and I were talking about the center diff some, it did seem to send power to whereever needed it, never had any problem.....I dunno I too am figuring out, quickly, how much more important picking a line is than pure vehicle capability. My buddy in his rwd ranger followed me down an ATV trail at another buddies farm, and when it got gnarly, he had me turn it around and get it out. that was interesting, and kinda fun!
  6. ok, so jeeps have more flex than we do....duh....what's your point? it doesn't make them a more capable vehicle, not by much. It's the aftermarket support, and budget of the owners that makes them better. lockers, really nice suspension, etc. is what makes them better. I watched a stock TJ, with disconnected sway bar, struggle on this ridge, with all four wheels on the ground. Austin walked down it, with a little scare of course, but no trouble, and he's got 3 open diffs: I can't tell you how many times I've watched a jeep goin through an obstacle, and spin wheels and get beached, before lifting wheels, subies just lift up a rear wheel, and pull through from the front (and a little from the rear if it's got posi...). Peter, I know it wasn't an attack, but nonetheless, subarus have articulation, and it is important, and there are things you can do to make it better, thus we have a thread where we can compare how much articulation we have, and how to get more. We're never going to compete with anything with solid axles on a flex ramp, but it doesn't mean we're not capable. [/rant]
  7. here's the latest: it's just my rear bumper, with another D-ring. Then added the bottom pieces, foglights, and the new AA skidplate.
  8. the only reason I haven't removed the knuckle, is I don't have a puller to dissasemble the tie rod, and if this one is anywhere near as difficult as my '85 was....I just don't want to mess with it I did take the control arm loose from the xmember, removed the axle (obviously), and pull the shock out of the knuckle, so it's pretty loose, but I didn't want to mess with the tie rod....I guess I'll try that tomorrow.

    ORV poll

let's do what we can, even though the options are rather limited http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/9900937/
  10. blah blah blah :-p thanks morgan...at least I know I was doing it right
  11. so I'm in the process of trying to replace the front wheel bearings on my wagon, and it's giving me hell...I'm doin the passenger side, and it just won't come apart! I got the outer oil seal off, and everything else is stuck. the inner seal is just falling apart, but still won't come out, and I can't even get the bearings to budge (I was thinking maybe if I tapped 'em out a bit, the seal might come out easier). Anyway, this if my first time doin this, so it's quite possible I've got something wrong....any ideas?
  12. to the origional link, which is so old, the contents of the album it's linking to have changed...
  13. Yep, park closes on Nov. 5th, through nov. 20th....we'll probably go up on sunday after T-day, if you'd like to come, I'll post an official event closer to that time.
  14. TCat's old wagon?? That's hardly anything special....still sweet just noticed, you're from woodbury....are you the person who bought it?! and LosDiosDeVerde86, that one was jut a body swapped onto a yota (or something like that) frame
  15. discs, and stainless lines!!! and yes, replace the pads on the front end too, you wouldn't beleive how much it helps, and is soooo easy!
  16. agreed....but I think I'd add a grill too :-p

  18. Hey! It was great to see you at the duluth meet (that white impreza is SWEEET!!!) Now you're gonna have to come join us at Gilbert for some ORV action! Welcome to the REAL subaru boards
  19. I got a bearing kit from subaru, a trusted dealer with many members of the local club working there. and it didn't come with the spacer....should it have?
  20. mine broke not ten minutes after buying mine... and that sounds like what mine did, was driving along, and noticed that I didn't have any power anymore, I looked at the dash, and the tach said zero. I checked the codes, and it was a code 13, for crank angle sensor. Which made me very worried. Then I realized that it wasn't getting a signal because the disty wans't turning, which was because the belt was broken. anyway, did the tach die when the car did? maybe try pulling it with another car for a little while, let in the clutch, and see if the tach is working or not. That might work better depending on your situation. it's not a surefire way to determine anything, but it'll get you started.
  21. I've come to the realization that I don't want headlight loops as bad as I thought, and I've already rewired the turn signals into the corner markers, so I don't really care about those mounts. Noah, I like the narrower lower support!! I think I'll adopt that idea. more pics to come late tonight, or tomorrow.
  22. bump I really doubt that it was coming out of the filler cap or dipstick, since it definately didn't get worse (it got better if anything) after adding a quart of oil...but I dunno, maybe I loosened it before I left when I meant to put oil in, and forgot about it...
  23. and cost as much as an ARB one ....and still leave the bottom of the radiator unprotected don't get me wrong, it looks awesome, but I want something a little less pricey, and a little more functional, when I get home, I'll PS some d-rings on my 'prototype'
