Unfortunately the "patina" look only really works on pre-1970 cars particulary virgin metal cars. Older cars have much thicker metal and can handle surface rust/oxidation for many years. The metal on subarus is thinner and recycled metal, the window of "patina" look to full on rust bucket is very short. If your looking for a Walking Dead type theme, I would flat black the car and then splatter the front w/ red paint. Most likely fuel issues, dirty injectors/lines /filters ect. Had very simmilar symptoms w/ my 93 loyale. swapped all the plugs/wires, ect. even tried swapping fuel filters/checked and re-checked all the vacuum lines. Nothing fixed it. Eventually it got better, whatever was clogging up the lines must have worked its way through.- Did Subaru use better paint on the GL?

EMISSIONS TEST SURVIVAL KIT: 1. roll of black electrical tape and scissors. 2. 1 gallon can of de-natured alcohol or coleman white gas. STEP 1 Use the electrical tape and scissors to cut little squares to cover all ECU warning lights on the dashboard STEP 2 Run your gas tank down to about empty and toss in the de-natured alcohol. STEP 3 Run your engine for a good 30-45min. before pulling into the emissions testing place, avoid shutting off the engine before test. If your subie has exhaust leaks, blow a bunch of donughts in the woods to cover your undercarraige with mud to mask the leaks. And lastly always show up at the testing facility 15 minutes before closing time to avoid giving some eager tech the time to discect and scrutinize your subie. happy motoring!- 1979 Subaru GL Wagon. my options?
- EA82 Smoke Signals
I've been noticing a lot of blue/grey smoke when going aroud steep corners, or long steep uphills. This in a non-carborated EA82. I'm thinking my pick-up tube in the pan is sucking air or some other problem when gravity sloshes all the engine fluids to one side of the motor. OR the piston rings are shot. Any ideas?- best way to make a 87 gl have that new subaru sound

your ea62 is far more valuable than any vw aircooled motor (except for 25hp split bug engines) Yes you can make the ea62 fit into a bug, but in my opinion if I was going to go through all the effort I would put an ej series subaru motor. Go to the samba.com there are plenty of info on this conversion. I am sure you could trade yor ea62 for an ej, ea, or any other more sutable donar engines for the swap. I have multiple subarus and vw's, I still run air cooled engines in my bugs and busses because they are so cheap. the cost and effort of converting to subaru power is not worth it in my opinion. . I feel subaru engines are mechanically superior to vw engines, but until the day it is less expensive than simply bolting in an air cooled motor I will keep running them. Hold on to the motor, or trade/sell it for some thing you want. Moosens is a good guy and very connected in the subaru scene. He could probably help broker a deal to get that motor where it belongs......in a vintage subaru.- ea62
vw 1600 motors are plentiful, the work and money needed to put in a smaller 1200 ea62 is not the best choice. If I Iived closer I would trade you a vw motor for your subaru motor. I'm sure you can find a local vw/subie guy in your neck of the woods that would do the same.- '77 2-door sedan parts needed
Wow some one else with a 1977 2dr sedan. Looks like you still have the dog dish hub caps still in tact also. Good luck with the parts hunt and the restoration. Here is a pic of my 77 for inspiration.- car smokes
- Lift Supports (back door "shocks")
I have never had a EA82 wagon that the back door struts worked. And if they do work wait for a cold day loading stuff up, it will drop trust me. They just were not designed to have a long life. I personally would'nt trust any aftermarket strut to last long either. What is designed for long life is a wooden broom handle, works every time. I drilled a hole in the tailgate for the broom handle so it won't get knocked out when loading up stuff. So get yourself a broom handle stick, or some helmets for you and your grandkids.- Gen 3 cyclospe conversion
Did not design a motorized door, this is a pretty low tech/cost conversion. As is the the brush bar and roof basket. The brush guard was once part of a weight bench and the roof basket was once a futon. The wire mesh light/grill protection was just some scrap I had lying around. I suppose you could also design a motorized door for the light, but clearance between the radiator and hood latch would be an issue. Too bad subaru only produced the cyclopse for a couple of years, they should have encorporated it into all generations.- Gen 3 cyclospe conversion
