I love the attention to detail this will be a sweet ride.- My Free 86 wagon
I did the Weber swap, no need for photos looks like every other one But I am impressed with the first drive. I run super non ethanol, so I turned up the timing quite a bit. I run this gas because I may be gone at work for a week or 6 months. The Free Wagon has more soup than my brat when skinny pedal is on the carpet. 235,000 miles and back from the brink of the crusher I say Win. And a little teaser. I am purchasing a tent trailer for her soon, photos of the family adventures ASAP- WTB ignition with key gen one brat

My key got pulled out while in the on position, so I have spent half a day trying to pick it to no avail. If you have ever taken the core out of one let me know. I don't want to have a push button kind of thing! So: I have an 81 Brat, but I believe the wagons were the same. Please help! Wanted ignition with key shipped 83467- Hub stripped on trail
Axle was getting some slop from 1st to reverse so It was time. My 11 year old volunteered to do the wrenching so bonus. Installed new bearings with it. I am proud of him he did the fix with guidance and a little help. He was so proud of himself for wrenchin on the Ol Brat by himself. in the picture is the bearing press I made years ago.- 1978 subaru wagon 5 speed in Brat
If the price is good buy it these parts are getting more scarce every year. Post some photos of the swap. and the test drive.- My Free 86 wagon

I thought the 5 speeds were front wheel drive, not 4 wheel drive. I wouldn't want a two wheel drive brat. Hope you get a better answer to your question.- 81 Brat SubaRude

Nice wagon she will take you to the edge and back. I've always had a soft spot for the Miata maybe after I'm done with my vette I'll cannibalize one.- Old Car CPR
I always squirt Marvel Mystery oil in the cylinders if it hasn't ran in who knows how long, just in case it was parked due to overheating issues.Ii let it set for a day, or how ever long you can stand it. New oil and filter also. If the old oil is nasty do a ATF/oil clean out. before I crank it up! Hope the best for you.- Need help! 78 Brat rear passenger wheel stuck wont spin..
I would check brakes first. They have a habit of freezing up if it's not driven.- Question on Outback/Forrester Snow Handling
Just to be clear some people experience torque bind in thier Subaru putting a fuse in the holder under the hood makes it front wheel drive not 4 wheel drive. I have seen this in wagons I've test drove you really can't tell the difference until your having problems in the slippery conditions. Hope you get to the bottom of this issue. Let us know.- Question on Outback/Forrester Snow Handling
Quick search Edmunds.com Subaru says both have 8.7 inches. I agree with Golucky66 Tires are most important. We have Handkook mud and snow on our Baja, and a foot of snow up a sledding hill without slipping a tire. I would check that you are driving in all wheel drive also. Is there a fuse in the holder under hood left rear firewall?- 78 Brat
