  1. Ok I have decided to do the 5-lug conversion on my subaru, here's what I have : 1987 Subaru GL-10 4WD Sedan Air Ride Turbo, Car was converted from 3AT to 5-speed Dual Range (3.90) Also swapped Rear Diff to 3.90. I need to know EXACTLY what I will need to do the conversion, since I found an XT6 I can strip parts from. I dont want the air ride anymore, I want coil springs. I appreciate any help.
  2. There was no way I could stop, the brakes on these things are ************, and I've been in lots of close calls and I know the brakes, when the lock up your done and messing around with them wont stop you, so its time for evasive manouvers, I allready knew they were going to lock up because I know this car very well. They were all new as well and they are 4-wheel disc. Its just the suspension and tires on these things cant perform, thats why I converting to 5-lug and some nice 16 inch wheels and tires.
  3. This actually happened a few weeks ago, but I've been getting lots of PM's about it so I thought I would just post a thread to let everyone know what happened : Since I got the new injectors I decided to bring the car to school and use our brand new Dyno to tune it, so around 12 I got finished and had it dialed in at 12:1 air/fuel ratio and the car was running perfect, it made 166whp and 198lbs of torque! Since I got the injectors and fixed my lean condition and finally got a real tune in I picked up 50hp! Gotta love tuning This was with Stock Turbo@12psi no intercooler and 92octane. Anyways, around 12 I decided to go get some lunch and see how she ran, I was going down Stark doing about 35mph (35zone) just crusin, then a guy from a parking lot comes flying out of the driveway without even looking! The road was wet since it just rained 30min before, I hit the brakes but they instantly locked up, so I slammed it in 4-HI, dropped it in 2nd and floored it to powerslide around him, I missed him by about an inch, then tried to correct the massive oversteer from avoiding him but the 13-inch tires just weren't enough and I hit a curb, blew the front left tire, then I was along for the ride with no control, I jumped a median then sideswiped a wooden post. The guy never even stopped, when I went back to the scene he was gone!!!! I WAS SO PISSED! End result, both passenger doors are screwed, front right fender is bent, and the passenger mirror is distroyed (it was power) Everything else is ok, im still pissed off about it, since I have liability insurance and even then they would total it, so I'm just gonna fix it myself, its just a shame since it was the origional paint from 1987 and it was perfect! Anyone who's seen the car in person knows how good the paint was.
  4. This issue was resolved, it was the fuel injectors.
  5. Sounds like the classic "Loose Timing Belt" They will slap around and rattle the valvetrain and distributor and make some weird noises under load. Did you tension it properly before tightening the tensioner down?
  6. With my 3AT when I was stock 97mph. After the rebuild with 3AT and 10psi 110mph topped out in 3rd gear After 5-speed D/R 3.90 Swap and 10psi 115mph After Injectors, Engine Managment, MSD Coil, 2.25inch Exhaust, Gutted Air Box, and 7psi 125mph. At 125 it didnt feel good at all, the air ride is just too soft and the tires are too small at those speeds it gets unstable, not to mention the wind drags the crap out of my car and throws it all over the place. The engine has the power but the car REALLY needs to be lower and stiffened up before its worthy of speeds over 100mph. My 90 Acura Legend L Coupe 5-speed with Intake, Full Exhaust, Advanced Timing, Sports suspension and Brembo Racing Brakes has been up to 150mph (5th gear revlimter) several times without a problem and stayed very well mannered. The suubies have the gears but they dont have the control so I'll never attempt 120+ in my subaru, its just not built for it.
  7. The Z injectors are rated around 259cc at 32psi, which is what our stock fuel pressure is. Someone told me awhile back when I got the Z injectors that they used higher fuel pressure at idle then we do, and that is incorrect I checked ALLDATA and the 83 280ZX Turbo states 32psi at idle which is what our fuel pressure is stock.
  8. I'm running 12psi of boost on the VF7 right now, no intercooler, the engine has been fully rebuilt over 12k ago, When I rebuilt the motor I balanced and blueprinted the internals, used all OEM parts, and ported the heads. I'm using the Greddy E-Manage Blue w/Injector & Ignition Harness, Greddy MAP Sensor & Harness, the car has 2.25inch Stainless Exhaust from the CAT Back with No Muffler just a chrome Tip out by the bumper (sounds nice as you can hear from the video clip) Stock Fuel Pump, AEM FPR SET to 40psi at IDLE. Right now the Injector Duty Cycle is around 80% on the top end, but I am running it extra rich up top since I have no intercooler to minimize detonation probability, so in reality with an Intercooler the DUTY's would be around 65-70ish at the most@12psi which is perfect unless you planning for more boost or a bigger turbo, then these injectors wont work out. But I can tell you this, these are a big improvment over the stockers performance wise, the car pulls VERY strong now and the No Power over 5k problem has disappeared, the car pulls hard up to 6500rpm now! The ported heads made a dramatic improvment when I built the engine, it was amazing how much material I actually removed, the ports opened up ALLOT!
  9. Ok I finally found a 83' Nissan 280ZX Turbo at the U-Pull-IT so I snagged 4 of the injectors and swapped em in. These injectors flow 259CC I verifed this here : http://www.jimwolftechnology.com/wolfpdf/280%20Z31%20450HP%20UPGRADE.PDF Retuned my fuel maps to make em work and I love it! It pulls like theres no tomarrow now, very nice boost in performance. I also played around with Fuel Pressure and was amazed that at stock fuel pressure the stock ECU handles the injectors very well and it ran great, so this means you guys can swap these in with stock ecu's and get a little more flow without needed a new ECU! Once you up the fuel pressure to the same as the Nissan's , then things get interesting Enjoy the pics and video, more to come! DIRECT SWAP NO MODS NEEDED (besides aftermarket managment) Here's the video 3rd to end of 4th gear WOT PULL : http://www.purehardware.com/subaru/videos/3rd-4thgearWOT.mov PICS:
  10. My First EA82-T with 100k on it when I bought the car blew up after : 25-30psi repeated pulls, made over 10 pulls before it gave up, blew the ringland right off the piston Also the motor was run out of oil before that, put 4qts in and drove it for another 6 months! LOL these motors are very strong and dont die easily.
  11. Wow never knew these were so hard to get. Anyone find out anything yet?
  12. Well that trick wont work because you would have to change the optical sensor inside and that is whats wrong with mine. Still lookin for a 87 Hotwire MAF Dizzy. Black Round Connector
  13. Really! Yeah it was from an 88 EA82T. I'll give it a shot. Thanks!
  14. Hey guys, I need to find a EA82-T Distributor for my 87 GL-10 ASAP! I went to the pick and pull and the one I got has a different connector, its got the white square connector and my car has the big black round connector for the dizzy harness.
  15. So let me get this right : You can use Impreza Front Knuckles, Rotors, Pads, Calipers, Suspension up to 2001 in the front, but you loose the front e-brake setup Then you can use Rear XT6 Kuckles, Rotors, Suspension, Keep ur stock calipers, but no e-brake. So no e-brake with the impreza stuff up front. Hrmm I need an E-brake cause mine is a manual trans. What kind of suspension upgrades are avail for the XT6? I do want to upgrade the suspension a little bit, since I have air ride and too much power now for the stock suspension setup. I dont want race suspension but I would like it to be a bit stiffer than stock.
  16. I'm planning this swap soon on my 87 GL-10 Sedan, what Impreza stuff works?
  17. Hehe, I'm happy with it, cant wait to get it installed.
  18. I was at the local U Pull It today looking for a Dizzy and just browsing the inventory to see whats new and whatnot when I cam across an older Audi Turbo Sedan that was untouched, this baby was complete, just some minor things missing, then I saw this : I looked at it and it looked like the perfect size for my GL10's hood, so I snatched it, then after I got it into my toolbox the guy came over and said "That car isnt for parts yet" Me and my friend just smiled and walked away, went up to the counter and the girl gave it to me for $6!!!!!!!! I set it on the hood to see if its the right size and guess what, ITS PERFECT!!!! FITS EXACTLY BETWEEN THE BULGE ON THE EA82 HOOD LINE!!!!!!!! WOOHOO!!!!! I've been looking for a scoop to fit the ea82 for a long time and I finally found it.
  19. PFFT LOL way to hide it, LMAO I had to actually look at it 10 more times, lol small text, u tricky little devil. Allthough I still dont think those will bolt right up without mods, and even then its iffy.
  20. I read your post several times and no where did it indicate EVO 8-9 USDM it just says EVO. Maybe your referring to a totally different thread?
  21. Which EVO injectors are you talking about? What Year? Last I checked the newer EVO's are top feed / newer rail style, not Barbbed Hose Style like the EA82's I'm not going to put the stockers in because I allready have 450cc 280ZX Injectors on the way that are direct bolt in's to the factory fuel rail setup.
  22. ahh that makes sense, forgot about the low fuel pressure on the ea82s I guess I gotta get my AEM RRFPR hooked up, its been collecting dust in my room anyways.
