  1. usually, the MAP sensor takes the intake air readings, does the same job as the MAF but works off of pressure, not flow rates. i know some of the older ej engines had one or the other, and a few had both if i remember correctly.
  2. the car is up here in maryland. about 10 miles west of frederick in middletown where my friend lives.
  3. its looking for the MAP sensor. either that or the MAP sensor is bad.
  4. i grew up in Va Beach, i was just there last month too. i am only a few hours away, in frederick maryland, but there are quite a few places to source the parts you need. if it comes down to it, my friend has an 87 rx that he is going to be selling since he cant get it running. but it has a 5 lug swap and is lowered already. you could swap those to your car. i am actually thinking about buying the car for a few parts, namely, the drivetrain, but i wont need the the 5 lug swap since i already have the parts i need for it. the only drawback is that there might be someoen looking at it as a project p here, but i havent heard from him in a while. if you o the 5 lug swap, the sky is the limit to the wheel choices you will have.
  5. there have been a few that have done this swap. and like GD said, you will need the turbo x-member, or you can do like i am going to do and get a custom header made for it. you will need to not only replace the fuel pump, but hte filters, rubber lines and im not sure, but possibly the tank, but i doubt that you will have to go that far. you do need to make sure that the fuel line you use is rated for fuel injection though. wiring will be an adventure, but shouldnt be too hard. just remember, it will take time to get everything put together. i think the flywheel will bolt up to the engine, but i would reccomend gettting an upgraded clutch kit for the brat since you will be adding an extra 40hp and tq over the ea81, even more if you have any upgrades to the ea82t.
  6. thats the reason i went with the n/A spyder manifold/
  7. damn man, you are busy, good luck with the brat. not trying to get into the HHO debate, but my impreza RS that usually only gets about 23mpg got over 31 mpg a few weeks ago, at an average speed of 80mph on my way from maryland to the outerbanks. my theory about it being that these cars are happier at speed than not. back on topic now, i cant wait to see how that brat project turns out. its going to be awsome. we will have to meet up sometime once i get my brat done. might be about as soon as you get your brat finished.
  8. i could be interested in this, i am trying to get impreza RS rear brakes on my brat. im sure that one of the local shops could do it for me, but it would be nice to already have whats needed before i take it to a shop.
  9. when are you going to be at summit point? thats like 45minutes from me. i wouls love to be able to see that car in person. congrats on the record.
  10. you can get an external high flow pump from MSD for a little over $100. i got mine free from a friend that had a honda tuning shop.
  11. very nice.
  12. i found jibs' stockpile a couple years ago. i think that was in nevada, or something like that.
  13. im really diggin the blue and orange, both would look great on it, especially if you can get black rims for it. but thats just my $.02. do what makes you happy. any of the colors you have there would work well with the car.
  14. i know you already found it, but for those who havent seen it. its only rotated a little bit, but it was also raised a bit and tilted back as well. there was a little less clearance between the tps and the turbo outlet pipe until i had the exhaust manifold rebuilt, but yeah, with the repositioning of the turbo, everything worked out rather well.
  15. thats why i had to make mine a rotated turbo set up.
  16. that is the auxilury air valve, it kinda of works like the idle air control valve in that it lets air bypass the throttle plate. it uses a bimetal coil to open and close the valve. i want to say that its for when the engine is warming up, but i might be wrong on that, someone will correct me if it is. but yeah, it shouldnt be dumping oil into the engine. if there is oil coming out of it, it is coming from before the valve, i would look at the pcv system and the turbo first.
  17. as far as the 4wire tps, the xt harness has the proper plug for it and i think the rx and gl-10 ecu will see it, i never had an issues with mine when i swapped it over, even had the same plug for the harness as the stock rx manifold harness.
  18. hmmm, this is a good question. the stuff ive seen usually just says to add the contents of the tube it comes in to the diff when you refill it. but im not sure on a subaru rear diff.
  19. thats awsome gary, didnt know they made fi mowes and what not. as for my carb, its been cleaned soo many times, you could eat off of it, if you didnt mind gas flavoring. im just happy that i got it actually running last night. before it would start, run about 5-10 seconds and sputter out. now it holds the idle and you can rev it an it doesnt stall when it comes back down. i am going to play with it tonight when i get off of work, maybe i canget somewhere on it. if i can get it running properly, and get safe seats, i am going to finally get it registered. once its registered, the real work can begin. i am looking at buying my friend's 87 rx for the drivetrain since the engine is having issues. that way ill have a good 5 speed swap and limited slip rear. i guess i need to see if there is any interest in the rolling shell, hell it has a 5 lug swap and is lowered already, would be perfect for an ej swap. i would do that if i had the space to store and work on it. that would be nuts for auto-x. but back on topic, once i get teh brat on th road, im going to start working towards getting the suspension set up customized and then get it converted to 5 lug, finally. then ill be able to got the 5 speed swap done. most likely, ill drive it for a while with the stock engine after i go 5spd and 5 lug, but i still have to build the turbo engine i want to put into it anyways, so it will be a little while before i see boost again eh, what can i say, i have big dreams, lol.
  20. the gas in it isnt too old since the old gas bas burnd upfor the most part and i put in a bit of fresh not too long ago, maybe two months or so. i think the adjustments are just off as it is now. i had to move things around before when i had the wrong parts and homemade gaskets in it. i am planning on tryig to get some more fresh gas in it this weekend since i am almost out anyways.
  21. boy, thems fightin words. ive put too much into this car to even entertain the idea of parting with it ever.
  22. ok, a bit of an update, i finally found the proper carb kit for the brat. i got it running again, but its still not right. the idle is about 2500rpm, it revs if oyu cover the carb, it also revs if you give it the gas pedal. if you press very lightly on the pedal though, it bogs. other than that though, it seems to be running a lot better and smoother than it was. i might try adjusting the timing, that fixed the odd reving issues i had before, but it will have to wait till later. most likely tomarrow.
  23. the coupes have it on the "A" pillar, i like it when cruising in the passenger seat, but its not as comforting to hang onto when the driving gets a bit "spirited"
  24. nice, how hard was it to get the wiring and what not up into the top of the dash like that?
