  1. are the mounts just a damper of some sort? I think my mounts are rusty.. but I can't tell if it's just a one piece rubber with the 3 threaded bolts or what but while doing my ball joint I happen to look up at one of them (can't remember which side) but it was the front and I noticed rust so I'd take it that's the top hat, no?
  2. Question Is it really needed to buy all 4 new strut mounts? I only ask because this is some expensive rubber a piece looking on rockauto $32.79 for a single mount or a pair? I'm replacing my blown struts with the GR-2 I take it when I replace the bellows I need to replace the bump stop as well?
  3. uhmm I think 98 Outbacks had single piston calipers? the other side is just for the sliding caliper bracket.
  4. no it does not do it while sitting still and revving the engine it's related to the throttle and body movement relative to how quick the throttle is shut when moving. I would try to make the sound by pushing the car back and forth but I'm not that strong the annoying part is it's hard to locate it while sitting in the car here is a youtube video a did a few weeks ago inside the car as you see I'm parked and revving the engine as I said you wont hear it because the car is not moving.
  5. interesting the OP in that other tread from 2008 never followed up and I don't expect the same here... I'm thinking a few things... 1.) habit of filling up with the car running (I heard why people do this.. save time) 2.) bad gas cap 3.) leak in hoses.. 4.) troll?
  6. here is another clip edited because people said it had too much background sound in it.. can't miss it, it's at the start of the clip and at the end. http://www.4shared.com/audio/01gu2ani/_2__Legacyclunk.html
  7. dddddaaaaamm I feel bad for you man that sucks major big time!
  8. Wow I jusy noticed that lol what are the odds? I used the related threds feature.
  9. do you fill up your car with the engine running? Did you make sure the gas cap is tight after filling up? Might want to look here too http://www.ultimatesubaru.org/forum/showthread.php?t=85011
  10. just ordered the black caliper paint off ebay
  11. I'm not old school but my car for the past year or longer (got the car used) the right rear tire blew so they had a single tire put on all same size but it seems the other 3 are newer then the old tire.. No ill effects
  12. Forgot to post some videos uploaded from the phone air ratchet impact
  13. Hmm I think I'm switching up again lol.. since these wheels are not 100% how it looked on the website it's between black and silver caliper paint leaning more towards black because of contrast. Might look a little funny at first on the brown car sucks that for the kits the only color the auto store has it red.. no wonder the ricers all use red :-/
  14. I had tan when I had my impreza (it was that bright green) it was a 1995 and I hated the inside color.
  15. It can happen.. http://www.2carpros.com/how_does_it_work/catalytic_converter.htm
  16. Also I should say.. I put my boots on before I put it on the car now if you use one of those tie rod tools to make it tight (I used channel locks) then I don't think you can fit the tool on it. nevertheless make sure that you hammer down the flats on the locking ring.
  17. I did the passenger side 2 days ago and it was pretty easy.. the hardest thing was getting the nut to back away from the outer tie rod (used heat and PB blaster) What I did not do right is set the alignment up right for the time being until I take it to the shop I spun the outer rod on one too many times.. Other then that it's very simple.. and OH if you car has those spring type thing that go on the rack boots keep them!!! they are far better then those stupid zip ties sorry I did not do that for the drivers side.
  18. The sound you hear is it most of the time it's 2 or more clunks before of the force of the car rocking the whole car forward and backwards a few times.
  19. I made the file and I took as much bass rumble out in the software Legacyclunk.mp3
  20. The car is a 95 Legacy L wagon the car will not clunk when sitting still
  21. it's for sure caused by application from the throttle it's impossible to really do by shaking and pulling things while under the car.. Could be a strut If only I working cored mic.. I'm not about to put my $160 mic under the hood and it falls out.
  22. I know that.. I spent 3 min hammering it in and it had no effect trust me man the only thing that worked was heat and me jumping on it :-/ I see you live in VA so hardly any salt.. This car has spent all it's life in the NE.. MA, NYC and now CT.
  23. I was scared last night I was going to bend it.. I was putting my whole body weight on the pickfork and jumping on it (I'm 126 Lb) I was like wow crap this thing is in good.. So I took my torch heated it up for about a min then quickly set in the pickle fork and I think in about 2 or 3 jumps it popped right out.
