don't forget you also hear a little more in an aluminum engine too. Grinding noises are usually bad and so is POW type of noises.

and don't forget to do the crank seal too.

what did the heated seats cost you? I wouldn't mind having some for my baja

no rocky high centers....heck i don't even know if there are any rocks in there at all. its just sand....and lots of it. For those who don't know or remember...I took a brand new 02 outback in there once many years ago. Nothing happened to it at all. Some of the trails are pretty tame...I saw a PT cruiser in there once. Go and enjoy yourself...it is a good time!

I have never seen one of those CXT's on the road. I drive its working brother once in a while... a 2005 international 4600 with a jerr-dan rollbed on it. I'd rather have the brat though

to take the heads off you are going to ahve to remove the front panel that has the t-chain in it. I read somewhere that there are a sh#& load of bolts in this housing and it has a special sealent that subaru sells for this reason. It could turn into more of a PIA then you think if you are going to do the HG's. But in all seriousness....+1 for the swap! I am going to be really interested in how this goes....maybe someday my baja will have the motor that it should have come with in it. You going to do the swap yourself? You really don't need anything special tool wise to do this (other then an engine crane)

I really like my baja. I can honestly say it is the best new subaru I have ever bought. I ran it out to Chicago (708 miles) 2 weeks ago and the 10 or so hours I spent in it were great. I got out in Chicago and wasn't even tired. I wish it had heated seats too....maybe some day it will. If you are still looking for one there was one over in York at a ford dealer that was an 03 silver and automatic (I think) and they wanted somewhere in the 15k range. If you were interested i could look to see if they still have it. Oh and for what its worth....my baja is stick. I love it!

if the LLbean is an H6 then it too requires prem.

I know exactly what kit you bought....I didn't even know you could still get that assortment. i bought mine back in the day for an EA-82 and I used the EA-81 part to hook a friend up. Kudos to you for being a good soobenthusist!

oh and why would you need someone to put the 4 cyl in? Trust me I don't think it is as hard as you think it is.

the emissions test is one of those things that is making me go hmmmm at the moment. Did you locate an engine or are you just calling around?

between what shawn said and what Hocrest said....that is what i would do. OR you could think of it this way: it isn't going to be a 3.9 b/c it isn't a turbo, and it "shouldn't" be a 4.44 since it isn't an OB or GT so in theroy it should be a 4.11. I'd still ask the dealer to run the tranny code or look for the sticker on the diff like Hocrest and shawn said though.

90-94 legacy 5 speeds were 4.11 and the TURBO 91-94 were 3.90 Trust me on this one.....i have been on this road before. FWIW, If you can find a 3.90 turbo tranny you will give up a little off the line but your mileage will go up greatly (I did this swap and couldn't believe my eyes/calculations)

I don't know of any technical sites but I am VERY interested in your project. I forsee one of those going into my baja someday. If/when you do this project I would like you to document if for us. I am interested in putting it into the USRM b/c I think this is going to be a sought after option in the future. Personally I think that 3.0H6 is a great engine that has next to no maintence requirements. Keep us informed and once again....Good Luck!

who's blue and silver wagon is that with the pugs on it? Very nice looking! (don't get me wrong...I like them all but that wagon really caught my eye)
