  1. ~EDIT~Please check in and let me know who wants to meet and if you are racing morning or afternoon. My race is in the afternoon and it seems most of the guys that are meeting me are racing in the afternoon. If nobody needs to be there for the morning session, I may set a later meeting time. If anybody wants/needs to meet still in the morning I may make a trip up there in the morning too.~EDIT~ For those of you that haven't been to Brooklyn or would just like to make a soobie caravan [other non-soobs welcome too:-)], We can meet at the gas station at I-5 exit 88 near Rochester at 06:30, I will be leaving the gas station at 7:00 am, this will allow Northbound and Southbound travelers to meet. It's a nice drive out there, including 7 miles of nice gravel.
  2. Sorry guys, I had lost track of this thread. Rick, I got your email and responded. Jeffroid, if it's a go, I can have the trans ready to go Saturday, so pick up any day next week is fine.
  3. There is a gas station just west of the offramp, maybe chevron? Right at the light and follow it around, there some empty gravel there to park on, gas and snacks. I can be there at 6:45/7:00 if we leave by 7:15 should be fine.
  4. I think you guys mean to say positive camber, most older soobs come stock with about 1 degree of positive camber (top of the tire leaning out). I think the top strut blocks need to be installed in the correct position, mine has an arrow on it, that might change the camber?
  5. I ran this course last year...it was my favorite event. The event is put on by a few individuals not an organization so if anybody can offer to help Janice before or during the event (competitors of course but others too), she would surely appreciate it. It's located in the woods, far from civilization, the drive to get ther is almost as much fun as the rally, the road there is the same road they run the historic Brooklyn Rally Stage on each year, there is a great tavern there that Ray and Janice own so cooling off after the rally is no problem and there is lots of rally history there and great stories. She is inviting people to camp there for the weekend, I would do this if it wasn't for the Sunday race in Oregon but plan on it for the July event, we can have a bash. I like the course because it's different. It's not flat, there are a lot of changes in elevation that make it fun, more like a rally. Also the ground is Clay which make a great racing surface and it holds up well. The course design last time was awesome and I'm sure it will be good this time around too. The course seemed rough at first glance but I would say it looked a lot worse than it really was. It's not as smooth as Hillsboro but 100 times better than PIR. Probably fine for anything but a lowered street machine (watch the front spoiler, run at your own risk) I would love to see more Rallys here. We met the old timer last year that allowed the rally on his farm, a very nice guy. Anybody that is so inclined might bring him some cookies or a six pack, something to show our appreciation but at the very least, say hello and let him know that you appreciate him allowing the use of his property. Also, if your not in too much of a hurry, spend a little time and money at the tavern, it's worth it. A lot of rally history there, a lot of rally heros have hoisted beers there, even visited by Travis Pastrama (motocross pro and budding rally star) and Christian Egstrom (2003 USA Pro Rally #2 co-driver) a couple weeks ago. Be sure and thank Janice and Ray also for sponsoring and coordinating the event, as well as the SCCA folks and other volunteers. I know this goes without saying but please drive safe and sane off the course and pick up any litter you see laying around. They are limiting entries, so sign up now if you want to race. If anybody wants to caravan from I-5 we can meet near Rochester exit 88 and drive up together, North and Southbound folks could meet there. If there is a response we can work out the details. Thanks to Qman for sending me an entry form.
  6. When I had my Rabbit, I found a website, FujiRabbit.com maybe? There was some parts floating around there, there is a business that sells repro lenses and rubber for them too.
  7. You finding and buying two is unusual at the least, don't rub it in! I think I did say it could be different geographically. You're right I should have clarified 4wd turbo coupe...
  8. I really like the turbo coupes, I like them better than the RX without the side skirts and the all white 80's look.
  9. Sorry to call you out on this but I feel the need to clarify a few things. Quote: Yea, they are usually GL models, but they are special order cars. They are all GL's they didn't make a GL-10 coupe and the DL was not available with a turbo. These ARE NOT special order, they are in fact prominately displayed and marketed across two pages in the '87 sales brochures, they are no more special order than a WRX is, option yes, special order NO. A quote from the brochure: "On Demand" and Full-Time 4-wheel drive systems. Now there are two ways to own the sporty, stylish 3-Door Coupe. All '87 turbo coupes had the F/T box, all '87 coupes with the F/T box had a turbo. The "On Demand" only came with a carb. In the '87 sale brochure they have pictures of the RX style interior, D/R F/T trans w/diff lock, areo kit, rally wheels, all Standard on the pre-RX turbo coupe. In fact, you could only get the coupe with a turbo in this configuration, I would say if you could find a '87 turbo coupe without a F/T box and RX interior it would be much more rare. Quote: Since all the RX's from 87 to 89.5 were only available in white I think you meant coupes, RX sedan came in any color in '87. I believe that the white RX sedans with ground effects were released in '88, at the very least, it was a mid year '87 release like the coupe. Quote: some people wanted the performance package (basically the D/R center lock and LSD rear diff) in a different color. Yes, these are the one of the rarer Subarus around, probably rarer then the black RX's. I'm 90% sure these model lines did not overlap (much), they made the non-RX turbo coupe in any color available for the first half of '87 until the release of the RX coupe, that was available only in white. I would say these are no where near as rare as a black RX, I've seen dozens of turbo coupes and have 3 in my back yard now, I've never seen a black RX in person and only a few pictures. This may be geographical but to say the the turbo coupe is probably rarer than a black RX is a stretch. Quote: If you look at the VIN, instead of 56B, it will be 55B. They are good to keep, but unless you can get the factory build sheet or dealer window sticker with the options called out, it could be a conversion, and therefore less desireable You do not need a build sheet to call out these options, they were not ordered as individual options, they were ALL standard as a package if you ordered a coupe with a turbo all of these parts came with it STANDARD. Again, if it has a 55B vin on a coupe, it could NOT be a conversion because ALL 55B (turbo coupe) VIN's came with ALL of these components (not options because they were STANDARD featues of the turbo coupe) I hope this helps to clear up some of the rumors and fictional information floating around about this model. Feel free to correct me on any of this if needed. I can post the pages out of the brochure if anybody would like confirmation of this information.
  10. I was talking with a tech Friday and he said some foresters come with a front limited slip diff, know anything about that?
  11. The clicking came back for just a few miles (10 or so) and now it's gone. I drove it about 100 miles yesterday with no noise at all. If it comes back, i know what to do.
  12. I have a low mileage pushbutton turbo trans for sale. If your driving to ND, it might be easier to drive over and replace the trans rather than find/buy a car and drag a trailer all the way over and back. The trans replacement is very straight forward and can easily be done in 1 day.
  13. The car has a full service history including regular oil changes and all service by Auburn Subaru. The engine looks absolutely brand new inside. I don't think it's a gummed up issue, I think something broke loose and clogged a passage. I'm going to check that out and see if it helps, I won't be able to do it till this weekend so I'm curious to see what the tech says. I will try the flush as a backup and try a pressure guage.
  14. Excellent info, just what I needed. Mine is the same, upper were flat, lowers fine. Thanks.
  15. Hey Craig My lifter nosie was gone for 50/100 miles and now it's coming back intermittedly, not as bad as before but annoying none the less. Is there a procedure for cleaning the oil passage? If it's still making noise at the end of the week I'm going to pull it apart again. Thanks
  16. Mine is leaking are all Legacy's the same or does it have to be from a turbo car??? Thanks
  17. I changed the fluid and then drove it a bit. I paid close attention to what was going on and tried different speeds etc. When on the hwy in 4th gear, if I push the peddle down firmly it will shift to third and slip (maybe not shift all the way). If I slowly push the peddle, just enough for it to shift or if I shift it manually it will shift to third and won't slip, it feels good. Does this sound like a problem with the duty selenoid? Would this be something gummed up inside the trans or a poss electrical or computer problem?
  18. I removed the rocker covers and rolled the engine over until all the valves were closed on one side. Then I checked the rockers to see which ones would move, if they move a lot, they are either collasped or have air in them. As it turns out, they were all fine on the passenger side, the offending HLA's were all on the drivers side. After finding the loose ones, I removed the rocker assembly. There was one that was completely collasped and would not rebound, that's the one I replaced. There was also three that had air in them, You can tell when there is air because you can compress them by hand. I submerged them in oil, depressed the check ball with a 2mm rod and pumped them until no more bubbles came out at 1 second intervals (FSM). After doing that if they are not defective, you should not be able to depress them by hand. Let me know if you need further info.
  19. Too late, did it yesterday, noise gone. If it comes back I'll check the passages. Thanks to both of you for the input.
  20. I'm trying to cure a noisy lifter on my '92 SS and don't want to wait till Tuesday to get parts, I have a N/A version I can use. Are they interchangeable?
  21. The tarns works good at low speed and shifts fine but I noticed at highway speed if I step on it the trans slips. Can I service and get more miles or is it done???
