Nice score, I have one the same color. I'm not sure about the "more rare" thing, I've heard people say that but I think it's just a way to justify a non RX as being good (which they are of course) But the fact is, I've heard that subaru cannot (I don't know if this is true) supply production numbers of different models, just the total number of coupes made. I've seen quite a few of both and I've owned 3 of each (coupes), if that is any indication they would be equally as rare. The AWD Turbo coupes were made for the first half of '87 until the mid year release of the RX, I'm pretty sure that production did not overlap (much) the sedans were the same way in '87, remember Donny's? It was a '87 AWD but didn't have the white package. Regardless, this is the best early soob to own (RX or T-Coupe) because of the options package, everything you need and nothing you don't...

The engine was a daily driver, ran great, just pulled one head. The head should be fine. Did you scrutinize the turbo? could be cracked. If you other engine was blowing steam, you may need to burn the water out of the exhaust system. The reference to the intake manifold is worth checking too.

RX's without body kits. Any trend behind it?
XSNRG replied to TROGDOR!'s topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
The kits started in '87.5, a mid year release, prior to that there were a couple different packages on the Rx and Turbo Coupes. Not sure about '89. I took my front dam and skirts off my coupe. -
I don't know but it would probably be ok for a week, it's not like something that's spinning at high RPM. Are you going to rebuild or just get a complete used rack? If so, it probably doesn't matter if it's damaged. I've drove leaking racks that weren't working but never rebuilt one, always just replaced them with a used unit, always worked out good. I just check to make sure there is no fluid in the boots.

RX spring question for spring geeks or engineers...
XSNRG replied to XSNRG's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
Thanks for the replies... I'm pretty sure the springs on the back of the Rx are not progressive but I understand your logic with a progrssive spring. I think I get it, my RX spring at stock length, compressed more, would be stiffer than a spring compressed less on the same strut. Do I understand that the farther it is compressed the more energy it takes to compress it further? -
Ran my RX at the drag strip

Cool. Nice work and a nice stable... Love that down pipe. What are the cams like, are they something off the shelf or custom grind? What part of the RPM range is it suppose to help, what is the strong RPM range, still around 3k to 6K??? Is you clutch slipping? I thought I had a pretty good clutch but on an all out run it slips. -
I sent money for a couple things, didn't get 'em...

Yes, I can get some pics but it might be a day or two, don't be afraid to remind me :-) I want to try to get pics of the whole set up. BTW...the cables I use came of an Imprezza with disc brakes, they have a little different cable end and it fits the 200SX cable mount better.

Actually the XT-6 rack is 3.25 turns but it still isn't as much as it would seem because the GL rack covers more distance. I acurately measured the distance traveled with the same number of turns.

I haven't used the rear e-brake yet but every once in while they throw a very sharp corner in when the track is really muddy, I can hardly even idle around these so I usually run them with the diff unlocked. I don't think it will hurt the trans a couple times a year, I'm not a big e-brake nut and they are usually at very low speed. Maybe not even fast enough to use the e-brake? I posted the math awhile ago, it is about 12% quicker. My pump wouldn't keep up with the stock rack either, I'm anxious to see what happens now. I have a XT-6 flywheel too, I doubt I will ever be near the end of the adjustment, I will have a new clutch or a new car before them...lol. Thanks for the compliment, the car was really running and handling awesome and should be better now with bushings and struts, I haven't tested much yet. I did put accord springs on the back yesterday and they are way too stiff, the GR-2's don't have enough dampening and the rump roast end of the car is way up in the air even with the top strut mount flipped. I'm going to put the RX springs back in. Question: I cut the RX springs to lower the car. Would the cut RX springs (shorter) or an uncut pair of RX springs (more compressed) be stiffer???

I used an Impreza brake handle spaced off the floor an inch or so with Impreza cables run straight back through the bulk head under the back seat, I had to widen the console just a bit, it looks like it could be stock. I used Nissan 200SX 4 cylinder rear calipers with the subaru carriers and pads, the cable holder had to be ground down a bit to clear the axle and I drilled the hole out to accept the Impreza cable, I used a soob brake line clip to hold it. It is a very clean, almost straight bolt on installation, the only fab work was new holes for the brake handle, trimming the console, holes for the cables through the bulk head and the grinding and drilling on the cable mount. The cables exit the bulkhead and run right down the control arms, everything worked out very nice.
