  1. LSD's Are A Good Half-Assed Way Of Being Too Lazy To Get Out And Remove The Axel In The Rear. This Should Be In The Off-Road Section. Why Type All First Letters In Capitals? Just giving you ************ man
  2. Heh heh. My exhaust systems keep removing themselves right behind the catilytic converter. The EJ22 sounds nice like that, kind of a v8 rumble when idling and a nice howl up high. The EA82's sound bad though, real harsh and lots of backfiring. I did some illeagal driving with my old one and I had to have the pedal just right to coast without making noise, little too much and it would rip the officers ears off, little too far off and it would sound like a gunfight. The blue flames out of the back of the cat are cool though.
  3. or the center differential taking a beating? http://importrpm2.tripod.com/sitebuildercontent/sitebuilderpictures/wrx.jpg&imgrefurl=http://importrpm2.tripod.com/importrpmcom/id1.html&h=161&w=240&sz=7&tbnid=fT0tR9rfcfUJ:&tbnh=69&tbnw=103&start=4&prev=/images%3Fq%3DRX7%2Bburnout%26hl%3Den%26lr%3D%26ie%3DUTF-8%26sa%3DN Doesn't look like the front wheels are spinning. That has to be bad for the center viscious coupling.
  4. I knew something was bothering me. Thanks for putting my mind at ease.
  5. http://www.geocities.com/punk_band/writings/all.htm and for your video viewing pleasure http://thrashcar.com/articles/article.asp?articleID=126 Hmmm.. one of my neighbors has 10 of those down back. I wonder how he keeps blowing trannies?
  6. How does the back end handle burnouts with the E brake on? Is there much hop or jarring? Devious minds need to know.
  7. This should be in the marketplace, but a subie just showed up in the J/Y with 2 solenoids in it. I'll se if its stiill there on monday and snatch them. PM me.
  8. I have a couple 4 lug VW wheels off a squareback. I got all excited when I saw them in the rafters, cause my parents used to have pugeot's, but when I got them down, the spacing was all wrong.
  9. Pick up one of the early legacy's. They are cheap, have the rugged 2.2L motor, and have rear E brakes. The earlier, boxy cars have front e-brakes, which makes for awkward sideways action. The only downside to the legacy is the ground clearance, but the underside of those cars seems to be able to take abuse without damaging anything badly. The rocker pannels, gas tank, floor pan and floor pan support all seem to get dented in the woods. The Gas tank seems to crush instead of puncturing, and the floor pans can get kicked out from the inside. The legacys are pretty safe too, so when you make that miscalculation on a corner, you get to walk away. Watch out for ABS on the legacys though, I don't think its the most desirable option for dirt racing.
  10. Windows weigh alot. Take the carpets and insulation out. Backs of the back seat don't weigh much, but take them out. Plastic trim inside. Windows can be replaced with plastic, a lot lighter, will fog eventually. take the jack out of the back. Bumpers weigh a lot too. Just by taking mine off and shaking the rust out of them, I lost like five pounds per bumper.
  11. for manuals, all the cars with d/r AND center diff lock were 3.7. It gave the car a higher cruizing speed. The plain D/R's and pushbutton ones wrere 3.9, but there are hardy any LSD ones of 3.9. I't isn't hard to convert it too a 3.9, but if you don't want it, I do.
  12. Wow, more and more subaru's are making their appearance in the school parking lot. There's a bunch of nice legacies, one of them a Lsi, some OBW's and a 2.5 RS. One of them is a really nice silver legacy sedan with all the fixings, sunroof, manual. Nice car. Out of mabey 150 cars in the lot, about 20 of them are Subaru's; a good showing in my opinion. The trend is even catching on with the teachers. Some of the cars are getting pretty abused, missing bumper covers, rumpled hoods and whatnot. Usual statement just before the damage is "It's AWD, watch what it can do." Stop signs, snowbanks, and mailboxes have been victimized (Not by the same car either) It's nice to see more of them around, they used to be more rare. Anyone else noticed this?
  13. 75 bucks is on the cheap side. people are selling them for 200+ everything can be made to fit, there are guides to converting the differential to a 3.9 instead of the 3.7 that it is, but if you swap the diff lock tranny in you won't have a problem.
  14. Another lift is welcome, the more lifted subie's out there the better, but a strait up capatilist "playing ball" might piss some people off. Try to be considerate of others work before undercutting them. I remember a recent and nice post (http://www.ultimatesubaru.org/forum/showthread.php?t=30202&page=3&pp=10) by Mudrat79 who talked to PK about making the 4/4 lifts because that was PK's new setup. PK is making his lifts close to at cost, and I believe the lift equipment itself has a as long as he is working lifetime gaurantee. Cutting others slack is a good thing.
  15. Oh boy! I got my lift today. Thankyou thankyou thankyou Its beautiful all that shiny metal. mmmmmmm..... Thank you very much. The directions make it sound so easy to install. I've taken off all the things neccacary before, so I know it will be harder than expected. Nice workmanship. I admire the welds.
  16. couldn't really toasting a bearing make the pressure drop? Replace the oil filter first, may be a cheap fix. It may be time for the engine to be retired. Got a big field anywhere near you?
  17. Yes, you can put the 2.2L engine in the loyale. You will need to make an adapter to mate the transmission to the engine out of 12mm stock, modify the engine mounts, put in a larger fuel pump, there's one for a ford truck that does the job, use the flywheel and clutch off of the 1.8L engine on the 2.2L. The flywheel will have to be slightly redrilled to bolt onto the 2.2L. You will need to set up the computer and harness out of the legacy to run the 2.2L. Its difficult, but doable. The engine designation for the Loyale motor is the EA82 and the Legacy's is EJ22. Check out http://www.surrealmirage.com/subaru/subaru.html for information on wiring the ECU for the 2.2L, it will need a jumper moved to cope with being hooked to a manual instead of an automatic. This thread belongs in the retrofitting forum by the way. Do a search for EJ22 swap.
  18. Hondas aren't all that bad... on pavement. I've done some spirited driving in my sisters Civic Si, and it holds pretty flat in the corners. nice stiff suspension too. I can't take it down my driveway or road at half the speed I can in my wagon though. It has mabe like 4-5 inches of clearance... makes me nervous. The GL will never be fast, sorry to burst your bubble. If its a manual, you can drive it faster. Take it up to 4500 between shifts, It'll pull a bit harder up there. Don't try it if its an automatic. Try to get the engine running as good as possible first, basic tuneup stuff, and take the intake muffler off of the airbox. Do a search for snorkel removal. If anyone gives you ************ about your car, remind them you can put a matress in the back and they can't.
  19. Quarter panels are fairly easy to remove. If you're lucky, just the quarter panel is rusted. The frame rail underneath is an unstopable doom if it rusts through. Check the rear wheel wells while you're at it. It'll be a good chance to get aquainted with bondo.
  20. That happened on my 86. It just up and went one day. Well, the car was being driven hard at the time, but thats no excuse. The bushing didn't look too replacable to me.
  21. whatever it is, try and get it. your saving a piece of history. My mom is tired of resqued subarus showing up. :-\
  22. got smoked by a couple of hondas I see. Good job. fastest subie of the lot. oldest one too.
  23. Well I like it. I've found on my cars, you only have to let the clutch up a bit to pop it off. It seems reliable, cause it still worked on the 86 that dissapeared in a cloud of rust. It only locks up one front and one rear, ever notice how the car stands higher and then drops a bit when you release the hill holder? that means a front an rear are both holding the car. And seeing as I have a hard time fitting my feet in around the pedals, size 15 boots and all, the less fancy footwork I have to do the better. I use the handbrake in cars that have it, and in others, I just dump the clutch and punch the gas. Mabe I'm just not good enough, but its a good crutch to have.
  24. Bump my car really just has one connector. The ECU flashed codes on its led the whole time the car is running when it had a fault, fixed the egr so it doesn't any more. Is it already in test mode? Is this why its sackless untill 3k rpm?
