  1. Carrying and storing tools carefully is a pain. When I was engineering on yachts I came across these brilliant bags called tool packs. This allowed me to easily carry working tools to anywhere on the vessel They do all sorts of configurations for different trades, smaller pouches for sets of things, etc. http://www.toolpak.com/ I have had mine for three years now, all the zips are good, it fits perfectly behind a Brumby seat, holds everything and is actually comfortable to carry or wear. The seperations for tools allow you to make sure they are all there at the end of a task. I have checked it through airlines and it has survived just fine; after putting black cable ties through all the zips. The airline staff nearly s..t themselves when they x-ray it or try to pick it up (its 26kg full) It was about $130 US, whole heartedly endorsed by ME Orroo _________________
  2. I would if I could, they are JDM dual port heads from a factory competition motor, (siamesed exhaust ports) They are matched to my cam and very, very rare. I only know of one other motor in Australia with the same heads, I have secured it, but its weeks away from arriving. Welding is my only option in the short term. BeeGeer, thats great info, many thanks. Cheers Matt
  3. Bob I am referring to the studs going into the head, (all alloy, no steel there) are we talking about the same thing?
  4. There were the remains of helicoils in the heads when I got them, I went one step oversize on them @ rebuild, now they are flogged out. How did you heat treat the metal?
  5. G'day everyone, The threads in my exhaust stud holes have given up. Rutted dirt roads have vibrated them to death. They have been drilled and re-tapped twice in a couple of holes (up to 14mm) the rest are 12mm. One is a strange coarse thread. Tommorrow morning I am removing the heads and having the holes tig welded up, re drilled and tapped to 10mm again. Has anyone done this? Tips? I have provision for 3 studs on each head and will be using the third this time, and modifying the flange to suit. Is the cast alloy able to take weld? Should I pre- heat the heads? Cheers
  6. If you make the brushguards or bullbars out of alloy (aluminium) I don't think weight will be an issue. Most bullbars on Subies in Oz are alloy. Mine is mainly 8mm in the bumper area and heavy walled tube. I can lift it without effort with one hand. (no steriods or freaky stength here) The 10mm skid plate (sump to gearbox) weighs about the same.
  7. Mudisfun, the time has come for your Brother to learn a little about cars! Make him help you swap the head gasket, he will gain a little understanding and maybe he will not abuse another engine or ignore a mechanical cry of pain again. Then, and only then would I fix his bloody ford!
  8. If there is no oil pissing out of it, you may have knocked the oil sender wire off the oil pump.
  9. Has anyone put a EA82 single point manifold onto an EA81, Would I have to run an ECU to fire the injectors? Is there any upgraded injectors that will fit. I have just fitted an AWD gearbox to the Wonder Brumby and it is feeling the extra drivetrain load. Love the new grip, miss the horsepower. My plan is SPFI and a toyota electric clutch supercharger. I have a set of EA82T pistons sitting here anyway.... why not!
  10. This may fit the bill... http://www.mrtrally.com.au/forums/topic.asp?TOPIC_ID=19306 Spool for Drifting
  11. I have welded steel tabs on to the top of my steel lift blocks (2") Then run steel rod between the tabs, via Clevis forks... Strong and simple and a very big improvement in road driving behaviour. (Fast winding highway 75%) My brace also does more work as I have WICKED CAMBER on the front wheels. Barracuda is correct... Anything attached to bodywork on a Subaru is not very strong. http://www.ultimatesubaru.org/photos/showphoto.php?photo=4033
  12. PM me your email address and I will send some pics through to you.
  13. G'day and Happy Australia day to you all in the USA, Strewth, Bonza and Coooee to the lot of you. I am about to fit a full time RX transmission to the Wonder Brumby, will it use much more fuel than it used to with only the fronts running?? Cheers Matt
  14. Found an LPG kit in Smellbourne, is there any major mods needed to fit it? It was set up on (another) twin carb EA81, If you can think of any traps or tips, please let me know. Good luck with the new donk, Matt
  15. Compared to an EA82 piston (I think...I got a box of parts from a few donor cars here). No dramas with the alloy push rods, I just wondered if they were a weak point. I suppose I would rather bend one of them than snap something big. Sort of like a fuse in the circuit.. Would you recommend a swap to gas? Mileage improved at all? Come on ... where is your tank?? These are a great little motor, I give my car a good hard thrashing just about every time I drive her. (don't fret, she was built for it, run in for it and she loves it) 5000km sythetic oil changes and a good warm up first is all she asks. 650 - 700km a week, every week. I am a fan.
  16. A forged set from an EA 82 rally car, they are 4mm taller than standard. There must be some room in there. BTW my solid lifters run alloy push rods, risky or not do you think?. Where have you mounted your LPG tank? Are you on straight gas or do you run both tanks? I would like to find a gas tank to sit where the fuel tank goes...I want to keep my tray, its not mine anyway.... Groover will be pissed off if I put a tank in there. I think gas will suit my engine better, high octane fuel is not cheap and twin carbies drink it like its water!
  17. Have a little faith in the head studs gentlemen, this is not some lightweight EA82 here, this is the Daddy with the studs! Its got too much compression when the starter won't turn it over!
  18. Supercharged dude, I have a dual port solid lifter EA81 running 9.6:1 compression, the very bottom of the J in Japan has been levelled off each head. If that makes sence to you. Have a look at a head and you will see what I mean. Major Decking, loves octane! Matt
  19. LPG dude, so would I! Excellent work, thanks for the lowdown. I have PM'd my email to you, Cheers Matt
  20. Smart dogs indeed. Pity I had to leave him in NC, Quarantine wouldn't let him home. I hate to leave a man behind
  21. The problem is trying to see if the road is clear to pass other cars, from the passenger seat! On a funny but serious note, dogs do not understand about left and right hand drive. I brought an Australian dog to America when I got married. The first day in the USA he leapt (full running speed) into the steering wheel and turn signal of my Blazer, thinking it was the passenger side. I tried to tell him. He did, on the other hand learn quickly about looking the other way for cars. Squirrells he never, ever got used to. Or lightning bugs.
  22. Swansea Tasmania, just an overnight drive to Sydney, or Smellbourne.
  23. Sub powered polaris??? You can't just slip that in and not explain.. fess up
