Going to pull and save for a buddys 3at. He has an 88 fuel injected gl wagon. Are there any differences between the carbureted and fuel injected trannys or do we have to pull one from a fuel injected car?

youre in spokane so it shouldnt be too rusty, but check the undercarriage and make sure its not too rusty under there, but otherwise, yes, sounds like a great deal for a sweet brat. all those problems are cheap and easy to fix cause you have pull and save right by you. i would do it:banana:

1985 brat transmission swap
doobieryan replied to kyletetkoski's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
yeah, a lot of work and not worth having a piece of crap tranny. get a 5 speed dual range or keep your 4 speed if its still good and learn to drive a manual. -
Spare tire jack for lifted car.

Yeah, the pull and save in spokane doesn't have jacks. They use 4 jacks Made out of a rim welded on told of a spare tire donut. Keeping a jack stand or two in the car is a good idea. I might start doin that. -

1980 Subaru Brat build Project

Yes, you could put any engine in anything if you really wanted to, but you should keep it a subaru. Those old brats are rare and i don't think they should have anything under the hood but a boxer. Just my .02 Ryan -
84 GL noisy front driver side wheel
doobieryan replied to nitsuj80's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
I had a little pebble stuck between my backing plate and rotor the other day. It was squeaking really bad. I just bent the plate back and the rock fell out. Done. Lol. But wheel bearings aren't too bad. They take like 4 hours the first time if you don't know what you're doing. You just need a big hammer and a good punch. You don't even need to take the knuckle off the car. -
By no means am i trying to tell you how to do your project, i was merely giving a suggestion. Sounds like you know exactly what you want to do and you have all the parts you need. That being said good luck with your project, you're doing a great job.

have you tried sending numbchux a pm? i talked to him a few weeks ago and he said he could make me one when i needed it. but GD is definitely a good source too if you wanna do that:banana: -
wheel bearings wont come out!!!
doobieryan replied to subinewby's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
yeah, when i did mine i just used a BFH:grin: pound the crap out of it, it will come out. or have GD do it. that would be even easier:lol: -
your going to make it all wheel drive? you should swap a 5 speed d/r into it. you already have a badass awd. make the brat a mobber. just my .02 Ryan

yeah, im pretty sure the 4wd had the hitachi and the 2wd had the nippon denso.

Does your brat have an ea81 with a dual range transmission. If it does not have dual range and you don't have plans to swap one in then those tires will be way too big off road. You'll bog down really easily. -
Anybody ever used one of these mufflers?
doobieryan replied to stephen115's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
Yeah, i was just thinking that too! Im lucky enough to live in eastern Washington where there are hundreds of nice rust free old soobies for the picking. I used to think a spot of rust under the paint was bad. I guess i won't complain about rust anymore. Lol -

I Have a cherry bomb turbo on my 82 wagon. It sounds pretty good. I woulda put a glasspack but i had all custom exhaust done and had the cat and resonator taken out, so it woulda been loud as Hell with just a glasspack. It still is pretty loud at rev. -

Grrrr...... Bad New Alternator!
doobieryan replied to Sonicfrog's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
Haha. It probably has alot to do with how advanced the electrical system is too. The guys that told me to try that knew i had a 75 ford pickup, which has a very simple electrical system. I know it can damage my dads bmw cause the computer is so advanced. So i think it would be fine on an old soob As long as its a very short period of time. They're pretty simple. -

Running it with the negative terminal off for a very short time won't hurt anything. I've had a couple very good mechanics tell me to do that to test that my charging system is working. -
Usually works for me! Haha. Did you try brasing it yet?
-
Haha. For sure. I hate those *@+@*@+

So i had my exhaust re done because mine was rusting apart. The guy i had do it custom made me a new y-pipe and did 2 inch straight pipe all the way out. No cat no muffler:lol: Needless to saw its loud as hell. Lol. Im definitely putting a glass pack on it before i get a ticket. But Im glad i had a pro do it because all 4 holes in the head were helicoiled so he made me flanges that are the opposite way so they use the other holes that are already in the head. Overall id say it was $250 well spent
