Wagon wisdom. Buying advice.
Tin Soldier replied to JLantz's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
my 2 cents worth here. I have had 4 wagons and loved them all. Push button 4wd is good for snow and stuff, but d/r is much better offroad. The sunroof sucks. It would freeze and leak in the winter and would get so hot in the summer that I would keep the shade closed. Maybe others have better experience with that. I have had no problem finding parts for any of mine. BTW I had 87, 88, 89, and now a 92 they were all EA82s. two turbos and two SPFI's. -
Northeasterly meet in June or July.
Tin Soldier replied to Tin Soldier's topic in Meet n' Greet. Your USMB Welcome Center
Yeah I figure why should the west coast guys have all the fun. They already have all the guys who can fab stuff. -
Ok so I am planning a northeasterly meet in either Erie, PA or Franlkin, PA. Looking for interested people. This would be a barbeque and maybe some offroading afterwards or befores. Depending on who all wants to come I would probably be providing the food. Just have to decide on a location. There is a park 5 miles from my house that we mgiht be able to use, pinicing, swimming and camping. Erie has the same stuff with better beaches about an hour away from my house. Let me know if anyone is interested. I was thining of this before I found out I can't goto Carlisle. I don't want to collide with the Pine Barrens meet either. So lets work it out.

If I figure out how to make money off of old subaru pictures I will cut you in on it, and certainly donate to the board. -

I do the same thing. I currently have 877 pix in my screensaver directory, all subes. I am more interested in offroading pix and really nice looking subes, but I generally have anything subaru related. -
AAARRGGHHH!! I was just about to fill out the registration when my wife goes, "Hey isn't that the weekend of your cousins wedding?" AAARGGHHH! I so wanted to be at Carlisle. I really wanted to see your lifted brat. We may come down for sunday, but most of the show is done by then. Grrr... I need a clone to goto the wedding.

I'm an idiot to have let this happened
Tin Soldier replied to pyromanic's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
Ok this is not the most christian answer, but this is what I would do. Swap the vin plate from yours and go with it. Seriously, practically the same car. Or you could transfer it outta state and then back in again. -
Pulling needles off cluster, ea82
Tin Soldier replied to subaru_styles's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
I am trying to do white face guages for my loyale and broke the oil pressure needle trying to get it off. So I have not seen an easy way to do it yet. -
I stop carrying anything and just got AAA. Saves me a lot of headache and I keep my hauling room. If I was gonna road trip I would take tools tho.

As the license plate and the web site say. 4x4 Roo very basic. See the site.

EA82 Spring lift questions.
Tin Soldier replied to Tin Soldier's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
Thats kinda what I thought too. I have never had a sube live long enuff to worry about that. I usually bang em up or blow em up. I am going to take care of this one tho. I don't mind replacing the axles once in a while. But this still doesn't tell if there is longer spring available. -
Since I am not one to keep secrets I have have some pictures of the the new goodies I got for my 4x4roo. Here is the car as it sits now. I have put the XT6 front seats in and installed my stereo and some other interior doo dads. First of all I got some wheels off a Mazda truck and then I redrilled them to fit. I have different tires for on them, but they need sand blasted first. Then I was at a local farm shop doing some computer repair work and the sales guy gave me this brush guard. I just need to get a bumper welded up to mount it to. Pardon the mess of my shed. I haven't had time to get things cleaned up. It been so cold I just open the door and throw stuff in and go in the house.

EA82 Spring lift questions.
Tin Soldier replied to Tin Soldier's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
I had heard this, so I asked the previous owner who is the one who actually changed the rear springs and he claimed he not had any cv problems. What is normal life on CV's and I have so far had no problems with anything. Anyone else had any experience with tthis? -
Just a quick question on longer springs for an EA82. I have honda accord springs in the rear and that gained me two inches in height, and they are stiffer so it's a lil bit ruffer of a ride but I can haul all kindas of stuff in it. My question is about front springs. Has anyone ever front longer front springs for an EA82? just like one or two inches? I was hoping for something that was an easy bolt on or swap out.

anyone run without Tbelt covers? ea82T
Tin Soldier replied to Ratty2Austin's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
Here is my Tbelt experience. Had a belt break with the covers installed and paid someone else to fix it. It broke again and it took me like 2-3 hours to replace them. Bought a Loyale of Trogdor with no t covers (sugested by MilesFox) and the tbelt broke before I could drive it home. Only took like a hour to change and that included the water pump as well. I have so far put about 2k miles on it with no covers. Snow SLop and heaven only knows what else hasn't effected it. I am of the opinion that the belts are gonna break and it's easier to change them without the dang covers. Just my 2 cents -
Custom Interior Lighting
Tin Soldier replied to Phaedras's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
My lifted DL I put two 12" blue cold cathode tubes. These were for in a computer so they run on 12 volts. I sell them in my shop for like $10. I put on behind the rearview mirror to the windshield with dbl sided tape and teh other in the back hatch area with two screws. I ran power wire along the edge of the headliner so it was hidden and rigged everything to the door light switch. Lit the whole car up blue with the door open. These also could be set to flash with the stereo witht eh included selector boxes. -
The clue would be when I said I would drill them out. They are off a mazda truck that had 3200 on the side fender. They are going to need sandblasted and repainted. It will be nice to get real tires on there.
-
I got some new (used) wheel today for the loyale. They are off some old Mazda. The have a 5" backspacing which I hope is not a problem. These are only 14" wheels. I got them because I have some tires already. I think I will drill the wheels just in case they don't work I can switch back to stock wheel without a problem. I will get some pix in a few days when I get my new camera.

Steering wheel time. *pics, WRX installed*
Tin Soldier replied to WJM's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
As for the horn, my DL I used a red push button switch from Radio Shack (3$) and mounted it to the dash. Worked good and no more blowing the horn while offroading. -

Anyone know where the coolant temp...
Tin Soldier replied to Tin Soldier's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
How much? I am having no luck finding them here. I will be going to a big yard when it's warmer a couple hours away so I could replace them then -

Thank guys. If I had had two extra seconds I suppose I coulda foudn that. The JY had three subes. All wagons. One missing an engine, one a turbo and the other had the sensor missing. Oh well, I will just have to find another yard. The good news is I think I found some new wheels. Gotta call him tmoorrow
